Min orders fresh feasibility report on scrapped Kurla-Bandra rail link
Mumbai: Mumbai suburban guardian minister, Ashish Shelar, ordered a fresh feasibility report to explore the revival of the long-abandoned Kurla-Bandra railway link. The directive was issued during a high-level coordination meeting attended by officials from Railways, MMRDA, MMRCL, MahaMetro, BMC, and the Mumbai Traffic Police. Shelar posted on his social media handle, "The project, initially envisioned to ease congestion and improve direct access between the city's eastern and western suburbs, was dropped in 2011 on the grounds that Metro Line 2 would provide similar connectivity. However, with growing pressure from activists and citizens, the demand resurfaced." RTI activist Anil Galgali, who was spearheading the campaign for restoration, raised serious allegations against the MMRDA. He claimed the planning body altered the station layout under the pretext of Metro development and diverted land meant for rail infrastructure toward monetisation. "The city needs mass rail connectivity, not real estate deals," Galgali said. Galgali placed four formal demands — revoking the Urban Development Department's 2018 notification, restoring the original alignment, preserving the proposed station sites in E and G blocks, and initiating an inquiry into MMRDA's handling of the project. Transport experts argue that the Kurla-Bandra rail link could act as a vital pressure valve for overburdened stations like Dadar and Ghatkopar, especially with business districts like BKC continuing to expand. The proposal to construct a railway line connecting Bandra and Kurla was originally floated to improve east–west connectivity in Mumbai. However, the plan was scrapped in 2011 by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), which argued that the upcoming Metro Line 2 would serve the same purpose and that the project would interfere with Mithi River widening works. Western Railway, a stakeholder in the initial plan, had stated that Metro line alone wouldn't suffice to cater to an estimated 36,000 peak-hour commuters.

Clashing projections in DPRs for Metro Line-2 raise eyebrows
Jaipur: The new Detailed Project Report (DPR) of Metro Line 2, prepared by RITES, has sparked controversy as it calculates an estimated passenger count far greater than the number quoted in the DPR prepared by the Delhi Metro Railway Corporation (DMRC) in March 2012. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now While the fresh report estimates a passenger count of 2.3 lakh passengers for Metro Line 2 in 2031, the earlier DPR estimated around 6.8 lakh daily passengers would use Metro Line 2 by 2031. This huge difference in passenger estimation has divided experts into two sections. A section of officials blamed the previous govt and stated the estimation wass intentionally hiked to increase the chance of loan approval for the project. "Jaipur Metro is the only metro service in the country that is solely constructed and operated by the state govt. All other metro services in India run on a central-state partnership. We feel, to ensure a high chance of loans for this project to get approved, the estimated figures were deliberately hiked," said a senior official from Urban Development and Housing (UDH) Department. Another section of officials feels RITES estimated the passenger count 'low' keeping in mind the passenger footfall in Metro Line 1, which operates from Mansarovar to Badi Chaupar at present. Although DMRC estimated a footfall of 1.23 lakh by 2025 for Line 1, the present average footfall of Line 1 is around 50,000 only. "Both the DPRs were prepared in March 2012 with Line 2 as a priority, which means the initial plan was to construct the metro on Tonk Road first and then on the Mansarovar to Badi Chaupar stretch. Estimation of the Mansarovar to Badi Chaupar stretch was done keeping in view that both lines are operating simultaneously. If the govt continued with the earlier plan, passengers' footfall would have also increased significantly on the Mansarovar to Badi Chaupar stretch," a metro official said.

Foundation ceremonies planned in Jaipur ahead of civic election
Jaipur: With civic polls in Rajasthan, including elections to the Jaipur Municipal Corporation, scheduled for Nov-Dec 2025, a flurry of foundation stone-laying ceremonies and project inaugurations is being lined up in the state capital over the next three to four months. According to officials familiar with the developments, the government is planning a series of public programmes around these events, aiming to boost voter sentiment ahead of the elections. "There will be foundation stone-laying programmes for two to four elevated roads. Among these, the Sanganer Elevated Road and Goplapura Bypass Road Elevated Road may take place in Aug. In addition, the govt may lay foundation stones in Jhotwara and at the Apex Circle in Mansarovar, and for the flyover at the OTS Chouraha," said an official. The Urban Development and Housing Department is also keen on laying the foundation stone for the Metro Line 2 by Diwali this year. The state govt already approved the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for Line 2 and forwarded the DPR for final approval. Meanwhile, chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma instructed the Jaipur Metro Railway Corporation (JMRC) to complete all formalities to float a tender for the work order by Aug 2025. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo "The state govt sent requests to Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) to complete the Civil Line Railway Overbridge Project by Diwali this year. The govt wants to inaugurate this long-pending project before the civic polls, if possible," said a JDA official. In addition, the focus is on wooing voters from the panchayat areas, which will come under the jurisdiction of JMC during this election. Officials said JMC can't officially interfere in these areas as they will remain under panchayats' jurisdiction until the election. "Since these areas fall under the ambit of JDA, the govt asked JDA to carry out development works that fall under the scope of the civic body," another official added.
