
Clashing projections in DPRs for Metro Line-2 raise eyebrows

While the fresh report estimates a passenger count of 2.3 lakh passengers for Metro Line 2 in 2031, the earlier DPR estimated around 6.8 lakh daily passengers would use Metro Line 2 by 2031.
This huge difference in passenger estimation has divided experts into two sections. A section of officials blamed the previous govt and stated the estimation wass intentionally hiked to increase the chance of loan approval for the project.
"Jaipur Metro is the only metro service in the country that is solely constructed and operated by the state govt. All other metro services in India run on a central-state partnership. We feel, to ensure a high chance of loans for this project to get approved, the estimated figures were deliberately hiked," said a senior official from Urban Development and Housing (UDH) Department.
Another section of officials feels RITES estimated the passenger count 'low' keeping in mind the passenger footfall in Metro Line 1, which operates from Mansarovar to Badi Chaupar at present.
Although DMRC estimated a footfall of 1.23 lakh by 2025 for Line 1, the present average footfall of Line 1 is around 50,000 only.
"Both the DPRs were prepared in March 2012 with Line 2 as a priority, which means the initial plan was to construct the metro on Tonk Road first and then on the Mansarovar to Badi Chaupar stretch. Estimation of the Mansarovar to Badi Chaupar stretch was done keeping in view that both lines are operating simultaneously. If the govt continued with the earlier plan, passengers' footfall would have also increased significantly on the Mansarovar to Badi Chaupar stretch," a metro official said.

Bungalow to serve as guest house for Ministers, senior officials to come up in Tiruchi
The Tiruchi Corporation has finalised the Detailed Project Report (DPR) to construct a bungalow to serve as a guest house for senior government officials and dignitaries, at Kambarasampettai in the city. The project is aimed at addressing the lack of adequate infrastructure in the city for the visiting dignitaries. The facility, which is to come up near the Kambarasampettai headworks station at an estimated cost of ₹4.65 crore, will have modern amenities and infrastructure. The bungalow would provide accommodation for the higher officials and Unon and State ministers visiting Tiruchi. As per the plan, the two-storey building will feature two suite rooms, a conference hall, a lounge, a waiting lobby, a common dining hall, a kitchen, a portico, sanitation complexes, office room on the ground floor spread over 5,340 square metres. The first floor will house two suites, a waiting lobby and a balcony at 4,240 square metres. A parking area to accommodate two-wheelers and four-wheelers will be developed. After a feasibility study, the Corporation has finalised the DPR and submitted the report to the State government seeking approval to execute the project at a cost of ₹4.65 crore. The Corporation has requested the government to release special funds for taking up the construction. 'The civic body expects the State government to accord the administrative and technical sanctions soon. A relevant scheme is yet to be decided to fund the project. The facility is expected to be constructed within a year from the date of commencement of work,' said a senior Corporation official.

NH construction in Himachal on track; state govt failed to use funds: Nadda
The construction of three out of four National Highways is in an advanced stage in Himachal Pradesh and major works would be completed in the next two years, Union Health Minister J P Nadda said in Bilaspur on Saturday. About 2,593 km long, four National Highways are being constructed in the state at an estimated cost of about Rs 38,000 crore. Addressing reporters, Nadda also lashed out at the state government for not utilising the funds allocated by the Union government. "The construction of three NHs is in an advanced stage and major works would be completed in 2026 and 2027 while the project for which Detailed Project Report (DPR) is under preparation would be completed in 2028", he said. Barring the Shimla-Mator National Highway for which preparation of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) is underway and completion is slated for 2028, the Parwanoo-Shimla, Kiratpur-Manali and Pathankot-Mandi National Highways would be completed in 2026 and 2027, he added. Nadda raised the issue of the state government treating the construction of roads at par with industries, mandating no-objection certificate (NOC) from the Pollution Control Board every year which delays the work and argued that setting of crushers and burning of charcoal for metalling is temporary and stops after the works are completed. "Union Transport and Highways minister Nitin Gadkari has already discussed the issue with the state government and I will also take up the matter with chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu", Nadda said and also cautioned that if the 'dredging' of River Beas, which is responsibility of the state government was not done, the Highways constructed by the NHAI would suffer huge damage. When asked about the complaints by the people whose properties have been affected during construction by NHAI, Nadda said that these would be disposed of on a case-by-case basis, adding that the government was sensitive and receptive about these issues. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Friday said that large companies were often awarded contracts based solely on their machinery, but they lack understanding of the fragile hill terrain of the state. As a result, they conduct hill-cutting as per their convenience, which causes damage. He advised NHAI to consider awarding such contracts to local contractors familiar with the region. The statement came after a five-storey building and a retaining wall near Kaithlighat-Dhalli four lane in the suburbs of Shimla collapsed in the ongoing week and residents cited negligence of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) as the main reason behind the damage. Nadda said that an atmosphere is being created by the state government that the Centre was not helping the state government but in fact the state government has failed to fully utilised the central funds and pointed out that under PM Health Infra-structure mission only 21 per cent has been spent while only 24 per cent of the funds allocated by the 15the Finance Commission for health have been utilised. Nadda also referred to the projects worth crores announced by Union minister Kiran Rijiju for tribal and remote areas and said that he got the Rs 1,000 crore JICA project sanctioned from Economic Affairs ministry under which the contribution of the state government would be only Rs 149 crore and the remaining cost would be borne by the Centre. He said that the Union government stood firmly with Himachal during the natural calamities in 2023 and released Rs 1,700 crore while Rs 1,000 crore have been announced by Union Home Minister Amit Shah for losses suffered during the ongoing monsoon fury.

Karnataka: Sigandur bridge to be inaugurated on July 14; BJP MP urges govt to name it after Chowdeshwari shrine

Raghavendra told reporters that the bridge's significance for residents in Karur and Avinahalli hoblis of Sagar taluk, home to the Sigandur shrine and Jain Basadis, was highlighted. The construction addresses historical challenges faced by communities displaced by the Madenur Dam, following the displacement of 8,000 families during the Linganamakki reservoir construction. Previously, residents relied on a ferry service, which was unavailable after sunset. Raghavendra acknowledged veteran Congress leader Kagodu Thimmappa, whilst attributing the project's success to his father, former CM BS Yediyurappa, and PM Narendra Modi . The project commenced with Nitin Gadkari laying the foundation stone in 2018. Despite completing the Detailed Project Report within a year, the project encountered several obstacles. Responding to criticism from district in-charge minister Madhu Bangarappa regarding public funding and allegations about photo shoots during site visits, Raghavendra maintained his visits were for inspection purposes.
