Ireland teenager with 'a lot of potential' joins Premier League side
Irish goalkeeper Michael Dike has joined Brighton and Hove Albion from Treaty United for an undisclosed fee.
It seems as though Dike will settle into the under-21 setup at the Seagulls, with Albion known for their production line of young talented players.
Brighton U21 manager Shannon Ruth, speaking to local newspaper The Argus, said: "Michael joins us as an Irish youth international and gained some good experience last year with Treaty.
"We believe he is a goalkeeper with a really positive profile and a lot of potential. We look forward to working with him and helping him continue his development."
Treaty United manager Tommy Barrett told the Limerick Post: "It's a fantastic opportunity for Michael and we wish him all the best. Michael has been great for us and has all the attributes to be a top keeper, great personality, great athleticism and he works really hard at his game.
"We are all looking forward to seeing Michael flourish and have a great career in the game."
Speaking to RTÉ, Dike revealed that he had been offered trails at the Premier League side, saying "I have been there a few times on trials and stuff like that and I enjoyed it and got offered a contract so I'm really happy. It's everything I have ever dream of, really exciting, a new chapter."
He was thankful for his time at Treaty, saying "The club has given me a good pathway I started with the academy and then had a little breakout year last year and made a couple of games.
"The shootout was by far my favourite moment as a Treaty player, the adrenaline saving the first one, going for the second one and saving that and then winning the shootout."

ELLIE MCCARTNEY HAS reached another final at the European U23 swimming championships in Slovakia, while Mona McSharry and Ellen Walshe are in the mix for medals at the Sette Colli International in Rome. McCartney, who has already won a gold and bronze medal in Slovakia, will have a chance at another medal as top seed in Saturday evening's 200m Breaststroke Final. Seven other Irish swimmers closed out their European U23 Championships in this morning's heats. Last night's silver medallist in the 200m Breaststroke, Eoin Corby, just missed out in the 100m Breaststroke as he placed ninth overall in 1:01.75, making him first reserve for this evening's final. Lottie Cullen and Maria Godden clocked 2:16.83 and 2:17.01 respectively in the 200m Backstroke. Ireland had three competitors in the 100m Freestyle, Evan Bailey the fastest of the trio in 49.75, ahead of Cormac Rynn (51.14) and Oisin Tebite (52.34), while Brandon Biss touched in 58 seconds in the 100m Backstroke. Finals racing got underway on Saturday on day 2 of racing at the Rowing World Cup in Lucerne. The PR3 Mixed Double Scull crew claimed a bronze medal in their A final. Semi-finals also took place with three Irish crews securing A Final spots. Zoe Hyde and Mags Cremen placed fourth in the semi-final of the Women's Double Scull, securing a spot in tomorrow's B Final. They raced in a highly competitive heat featuring China, the winners of the last World Cup Regatta in Varese, and Olympic champion Lola Anderson of Great Britain. At the 1000 metre mark, Zoe and Mags sat in sixth position before overtaking the New Zealand crew by the 1500 metre mark. A powerful sprint in the final stretch saw them pass the British crew to finish fourth with a time of 06:53.9. Fintan McCarthy and Konan Pazzaia won their semi-final in the Men's Double Sculls and will compete in the A Final tomorrow. In a tightly contested race, the duo led from the start, holding off strong challenges from the New Zealand crew and the second Irish boat. They crossed the line with a time of 06:11.43, which was faster than the time posted by Serbia in the first semi-final. Paul O'Donovan and Daire Lynch finished third in the semi-final of the Men's Double Sculls, securing their place in Sunday's A Final. Ireland legend Niall Quinn set to coach amateur Dublin football team
Ireland legend Niall Quinn will take on another new venture as he returns to the coaching sidelines for Blanchardstown based outfit Dublin Celtic. Quinn, who played 92 times for Ireland, including two World Cups, has been announced as Director of Coaching for thee AUL outfit with former Ireland Under 21 coach Ian Byrne named as Head Coach. The prolific ex-forward had an illustrious career, which involved stints with Arsenal, Manchester City, and Sunderland from 1985 to 2002. He also took a coaching role at the Black Cats after his retirement, and became manager of the side in 2006 for a short-term spell. Dublin Celtic announced the addition of Quinn and Byrne on their Facebook page on Friday. The forward scored 163 goals in 551 appearances at club level, and was a key part of the Irish side at Italia 90 and the 2002 World Cup. He famously scored against the Netherlands in Italia 90 to level that clash and send Ireland through. He'll hope he can make more memories with Dublin Celtic next season.
