Middelburg Observer supports the SPCA
Are you convinced that your doggy is the prettiest pooch or that your cat is the quirkiest kitty? Do you find your pet is so ugly that they're actually adorable? Then you should enter our Cutest vs Ugliest Pet Photo Competition and support the Middelburg SPCA! To enter, a cash donation of R50 or more, or pet supplies (such as food, blankets, toys and treats) can be dropped off at the Middelburg Observer's office (41 Meyer Street). Just ask for Leana. Submit your information, as well as your pet's information, and send a photo of your pet alongside the reference number provided upon donation to leana@ The competition will be voted on by the public, with more information to follow. All photo competition entries close on July 18. SPCA Market Day We know the Middelburg SPCA is relying heavily on our community's support, and if you can't enter the Cutest vs Ugliest Pet Photo Competition, there are other ways you can help. The SPCA is hosting a market day this Saturday with plenty of entertainment for the whole family. The market day will be taking place from 08:00 to 13:00 at the Middelburg SPCA, and entry is free! Local artists will be performing live for your own entertainment, and car enthusiasts can look forward to the vintage car display and sound show, as well as a show and shine. Over 35 stalls will be available, each offering a variety of unique products, including home-made and hand-made goods. Plenty of food stalls will also supply a variety of cuisines. Keep a lookout for Paw Patrol and the Middelburg SPCA convoy, which will be driving through town to grab your attention. The Beauty Queens presents: Miss and Mr SPCA Middelburg!
Would you like to showcase your compassion for animals? Look no further than the Miss and Mr SPCA Middelburg 2025 pageant! Entries are now open, so whether you have a heart for animal welfare, a passion for pageantry, or a desire to inspire change, this is your moment to step into the spotlight. By entering, you will support the Middelburg SPCA, raise awareness for their noble cause, and stand a chance to win amazing prizes. Michelle Laas (owner of The Beauty Queens) is hosting this unique competition. 'This is more than just a pageant – it's a mission. I believe in using every platform I've been given to serve a greater purpose. Through this event, I hope to raise awareness, inspire compassion, and appoint ambassadors who will help collect food and resources for the animals who need us the most.' She says that the SPCA does extraordinary work in giving a voice to the voiceless and that it is a privilege for her to stand alongside them in this cause. 'God has entrusted me with this calling – not for my own glory, but to make a difference where it matters.' The age categories for the competition are: Girls and Women: Mini 5–7 years, Junior 8–12 years, Teen 15–19 years, Miss 20–30 years, and Mrs 30+ years. Boys and Men: Mini 3–7 years, Junior 8–12 years, Teen 13–19 years, and Senior 20+. Entries are R300 per participant. The judging and crowning will be held on May 30 at Corpus Christi. Doors will open at 17:30. Finalists will be judged in two categories: informal (white T-shirt and denim) and formal (ball gown for females and formal suits for males). White T-shirts will be given to the finalists on the day of the event. The community can also support this worthy cause by buying tickets for R100 per person for the event. Michelle mentioned that all proceeds will be donated to the Middelburg SPCA.
