UFL issues non-denial denial on relocation of Birmingham, Michigan, Houston, Memphis

On Tuesday night, reports emerged that the UFL will be relocating half of its entire league. Moving to new markets will be Birmingham, Michigan, Houston, and Memphis. And the new cities reportedly will be Boise, Columbus, Kentucky (Louisville and/or Lexington), and somewhere in Florida (probably Orlando). The UFL has issued a statement, via Mike Mitchell: 'The league office is in the planning stages for next season and beyond. At this point, we have nothing to report on any unauthorized speculation.' It's a non-denial denial. And we'll regard it as an implicit confirmation. If/when the four teams move to new markets, it's unclear whether they'll keep their current names or rebrand with new uniforms, logos, etc. However it plays out, it's both a strange development for a league that saw its attendance and viewership numbers drop in 2025 — and a necessary one. The UFL has a better chance to survive (and perhaps thrive) in non-NFL markets. Apparently, that's where the Stallions (if still the Stallions), the Panthers (if still the Panthers), the Roughnecks (if still the Roughnecks), and Showboats (if still the Showboats) will be in 2026.

UFL championship audience drops sharply from 2024

The UFL isn't concerned about the decline in TV audience from 2024 to 2025. Maybe it should be. Via Mike Mitchell, the championship game between the D.C. Defenders and the Michigan Panthers averaged 983,000 viewers, with a peak of 1.2 million. The game was televised by ABC. Last year's UFL championship, pitting Birmingham against San Antonio, averaged 1.57 million viewers on Fox. This year's number represents a 37-percent drop. Mitchell points out that the game faced direct competition with a Stanley Cup Final contest, Major League Baseball, and the men's College World Series. That's fine, but there will always be other sports going on. It's for the UFL to arrange its schedule to navigate the reality that it's not the only show in town. The UFL says it's in it for the long haul. If the decline from 2024 to 2025 continues, however, it will be hard to keep it going for long.

Wichita Falls revitalization plan leads to tax incentives

WICHITA FALLS (KFDX/KJTL) — Tax breaks will soon be available to neighbors in central Wichita Falls. On Tuesday, May 20, 2025, the city declared its intent to participate in the 'Texas Tax Abatement Program'. Wichita Falls council lifts Stage One water restrictions Central Wichita Falls Neighborhood Revitalization Committee chairman Mike Mitchell said this move will create a Neighborhood Empowerment Zone, or NES. The abatement can be residential or commercial. The move is part of the 'Heart of the Falls' Neighborhood Revitalization Plan. Mitchell said the tax benefits should encourage people to renovate properties to rebuild neighborhood pride. 'We want to keep the culture. We want to keep the look even in this one area, there's probably a dozen different looks and feels in the different little neighborhoods,' Mitchell said. 'It's an encouragement for me to go ahead and do some fixing up that I'm already looking at doing, but also get some tax benefits as well.' Mitchell calls this a win for the city as they continue their push to revitalize the area. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Should parking spots be removed from West 25th Street near West Side Market?

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WJW) — Cleveland's bustling West 25th Street is known for great breweries, restaurants and congestion. But that could be a good or bad thing, depending on who you ask. 'There's not a problem right now with buses going down this street. So this is a solution, in search of a problem,' said owner of Mitchell's Ice Cream, Mike Mitchell. What we know about Cavaliers playoffs Round 2: Dates, times and tickets Clevelanders for Public Transit member Chris Martin responded by saying, 'Has Mike Mitchell taken a bus? Has Pete taken a bus down 25th? I'd be curios to know the answer to that.' Clevelanders in favor of more efficient public transit and area business owners are in a heated debate over a Greater Cleveland RTA project called 25 Connects, a federally-funded program created several years ago to break down barriers along the West 25th Street corridor and replace them with transit-oriented development. The latest phase would remove roughly 70 parking spaces just outside the West Side Market and other main attractions to make room for bus rapid transit lanes. Perhaps the busiest and most congested section of this entire W. 25th street project Is here between Detroit Road and Lorain Avenue, where 24 buses travel this very section, every hour, throughout the day. Martin said the removal of parking spaces will make existing transit issues even worse. 'The #51 bus here is consistently delayed and is consistently running behind schedule because it is weaving in and out of traffic all of the time, because it does not have a dedicated lane,' he explaines. LOOK: Cruise ship arrives in Cleveland The two dedicated bus lanes, would stretch between Hingetown and Old Brooklyn, where bike lanes have already been installed as part of the project. Michell's Ice Cream was founded by Mike and his brother Pete 26 years ago and they've called West 25th Street home for more than 10 years. Mike said he believes the removal of parking lanes will disrupt deliveries and keep patrons away. He's urging city leaders to kick the idea to the curb. The bus line that would benefit from these bus lanes is the RTA MetroHealth Line, with a goal to increase ridership, mitigate congestion, reduce travel time and increase availability. A decision on those two dedicated bus lines expected to take place at city hall. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
