China cruises past Argentina for first win in women's water polo at World Championships

Singapore, July 13 (UNI) China earned its first victory at the World Aquatics Championships on Sunday, dominating Argentina 29-9 in a women's water polo Group B match. Led by Olympic champion and new head coach Miki Oca of Spain, China took command early and never looked back. The team raced out to a 15-5 halftime lead and maintained its offensive onslaught in the second half to seal the convincing win. Nong Sanfeng, the player of the match, was one of three Chinese players to score four goals. Shao Yixin and Zhou Shang also netted four each. Three additional players scored hat tricks, and all 12 of China's field players contributed at least one goal. "This win is very important for us, especially considering we've only had seven weeks to prepare," said Oca, who guided Spain to Olympic gold in Paris last year before taking over the Chinese squad in April. "We attacked very well and scored a lot of goals. The players were excellent in transition and finished their chances. We found the goal easily today," he added. China, which dropped its opener to the United States on Friday, will face the Netherlands on Tuesday. "You have to keep fighting, keep going. You can't let one win or one loss affect your emotions," Oca said. "Holland is one of the top teams in the world. It will be a great challenge and a good test of our progress at these championships."
