2025 Mini Countryman Electric review

Mini Countryman Pros Mini Countryman Cons It's been just one year since the new Mini Countryman Electric landed in Australia, but plenty has changed in that short timeframe. The market for small electric SUVs has always been niche, but that hasn't stopped manufacturers from lobbing their latest battery-powered creations on our shores, with several fresh models arriving from all corners of the globe over the last 12 months. The EX30 measures 166.7 inches in length. Despite that difference in length, it's a mixed competition when it comes to interior passenger space. For example, the EX30 offers 41.7 inches of front headroom, while the Countryman Electric offers 40.7 inches. Overview Though it competes in the subcompact SUV class, Mini's Countryman John Cooper Works is the brand's biggest vehicle. Now in its third generation, it shares a platform with the dynamically excellent BMW X1 M35i and is all the better for it. The JCW's powertrain—consisting of a 312-hp engine and quick-shifting dual-clutch transmission—is a good fit for this application, and the model's interior is comfortable, spacious, and charmingly on brand, with a round infotainment screen atop the dash and red racing-inspired accents everywhere in sight. Expert Tip: If the JCW is too rowdy for your tastes, you may be better served by the tamer Countryman or the battery-powered Countryman Electric. What's New for 2026? Little changes for 2026, except that new Countryman JCW buyers have the ability to unlock and start their Minis with their smartphones. Pricing and Which One to Buy The price of the 2026 Mini Countryman JCW is expected to start around $48,000 and go up to $54,000 depending on the trim and options. During our initial test drive in Portugal, we noted the transmission's responsiveness, particularly on downshifts, but we took issue with the JCW's lackluster steering. Fortunately, the small SUV is easy to drive quickly down a twisty road, thanks to its crisp handling. It's also surprisingly forgiving on rough stretches of asphalt. 0–60-MPH Times C/D 60-mph Test: 4.6 seconds In Comparison: In our testing, the Countryman JCW got to 60 mph in 4.6 seconds. That's a bit slower than the previous-generation model, which was the quickest Mini we ever tested. More plasticky materials are found lower down in the interior's design, but overall, the ambiance is upscale enough for this class. The infotainment display sits above the center stack in a circular housing, which is very Mini. Passenger space is also generous. Second Row: All but the tallest of passengers will find enough headroom and legroom in the back to be comfortable during an extended drive. Cargo Capacity: The Countryman JCW has 25 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats and 56 with the second row folded. That's more than enough room to transport a Costco cartful home. During our test drive, however, we missed a turn or two due to the slow operation of the nav system.
