2026 Mini Countryman JCW Review, Pricing, and Specs

2026 Mini Countryman JCW Review, Pricing, and Specs

Car and Driver4 days ago
Overview
Though it competes in the subcompact SUV class, Mini's Countryman John Cooper Works is the brand's biggest vehicle. Now in its third generation, it shares a platform with the dynamically excellent BMW X1 M35i and is all the better for it.
The JCW's powertrain—consisting of a 312-hp engine and quick-shifting dual-clutch transmission—is a good fit for this application, and the model's interior is comfortable, spacious, and charmingly on brand, with a round infotainment screen atop the dash and red racing-inspired accents everywhere in sight.
Expert Tip: If the JCW is too rowdy for your tastes, you may be better served by the tamer Countryman or the battery-powered Countryman Electric.
What's New for 2026?
Little changes for 2026, except that new Countryman JCW buyers have the ability to unlock and start their Minis with their smartphones.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
The price of the 2026 Mini Countryman JCW is expected to start around $48,000 and go up to $54,000 depending on the trim and options.
Signature Plus
$48,000 (est)
Iconic
$54,000 (est) 0 $10k $20k $30k $40k $50k $60k $70k $80k $90k
For most people, the Signature Plus will do nicely. It has everything you need (like heating for the seats and steering wheel, plus remote engine start) and several luxuries you don't (like a head-up display, a panoramic moonroof, and wireless phone charging). Only choose the Iconic if power front seats, an interior camera, and/or more advanced parking-assist and navigation systems are must-haves.
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
Engine: 312-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder
312-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder Transmission: 7-speed dual-clutch automatic
7-speed dual-clutch automatic Drivetrain: all-wheel drive
The Countryman JCW is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that churns out 312 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. A quick-acting seven-speed dual-clutch automatic sends that torque to all four wheels, and paddle shifters behind the steering wheel allow the driver to intervene and shift gears when they want to. The Countryman JCW gets model-specific suspension bits and bright red JCW brake calipers.
During our initial test drive in Portugal, we noted the transmission's responsiveness, particularly on downshifts, but we took issue with the JCW's lackluster steering. Fortunately, the small SUV is easy to drive quickly down a twisty road, thanks to its crisp handling. It's also surprisingly forgiving on rough stretches of asphalt.
0–60-MPH Times
C/D 60-mph Test: 4.6 seconds
In Comparison: In our testing, the Countryman JCW got to 60 mph in 4.6 seconds. That's a bit slower than the previous-generation model, which was the quickest Mini we ever tested.

Towing and Payload Capacity
The Mini Countryman JCW can tow up to 3,500 pounds when properly equipped.
Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG
EPA City Rating: 23 mpg
23 mpg EPA Highway Rating: 30 mpg
The EPA hasn't released fuel-economy information for the 2026 Mini Countryman JCW yet, but the 2025 model earned ratings of 23 mpg city, 30 mpg highway, and 26 mpg combined. We expect the 2026 Countryman JCW will post similar numbers. For more information about the Countryman JCW's fuel economy, visit the EPA's website.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
First Row: Inside, the Countryman JCW offers cheerful design elements and premium materials—at least on the dashboard and door panels. More plasticky materials are found lower down in the interior's design, but overall, the ambiance is upscale enough for this class. The infotainment display sits above the center stack in a circular housing, which is very Mini. Passenger space is also generous.
Second Row: All but the tallest of passengers will find enough headroom and legroom in the back to be comfortable during an extended drive.
Cargo Capacity: The Countryman JCW has 25 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats and 56 with the second row folded. That's more than enough room to transport a Costco cartful home.

9.4-inch touchscreen Connectivity: Bluetooth, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility
Bluetooth, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility Audio Systems: 12-speaker Harman/Kardon stereo
Mini has equipped the Countryman JCW with modern entertainment features expected in this SUV segment. There's wireless smartphone charging and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. Like the regular Countryman models, the JCW gets a 9.4-inch circular infotainment touchscreen mounted on the center of the dashboard.
Mini's latest interface features crisp graphics and plenty of fun details, including a canine voice assistant named Spike and the ability to download and play video games while parked. During our test drive, however, we missed a turn or two due to the slow operation of the nav system.
Safety and Driver-Assistance Features
Mini equips the JCW with plenty of useful driver-assistance features, including adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist.
Standard Safety Features: lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control

Leao clause, Osimhen's choice, Roma target Ferguson: transfer news 🤑

Summer is heating up, and so is the transfer market, with negotiations getting hotter by the day. Below, as usual, is an overview of the most significant operations of the top teams. Juve, goal to sell Vlahovic immediately Juventus wants to sell Dusan Vlahovic this summer to avoid losing him for free in 2026. The Serbian, who has been demoted in the team's hierarchy and has a €12 million per year contract, wants to leave only in a year. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Comolli is seeking a compromise with Vlahovic's entourage, evaluating solutions such as a bridge contract or a discounted sale (€25-30 million). Advertisement Jonathan David has already arrived, but without Vlahovic's departure, there will be no funds to invest in Osimhen or Kolo Muani. Milan is watching, ready to take advantage of the situation at the end of the market if the price drops. Juventus does not intend to give Vlahovic away, but is evaluating every option to resolve a situation that is blocking the market. Milan, €15 million to Lille in case of Leao's departure Milan has renegotiated with Lille the clause on the future resale of Rafael Leao: the French club can receive up to €14.8 million, but only if the sale exceeds €51 million. Above €100 million, no payment is foreseen, as reported by La Verità. The modification arrived in 2023, after Milan had paid over €20 million to settle the debt between Lille and Sporting Lisbon, related to the unilateral termination of the Portuguese player. The renewal was subject to the payment of the penalty by June 30. Inter, Kokcu a hot name for midfield Inter is evaluating Orkun Kokcu of Benfica as a possible replacement for Calhanoglu. The Turkish player, born in 2000, is also followed by Milan and Roma, but does not want to return to his homeland. Advertisement According to A Bola, Benfica values him at €40 million despite the €150 million clause. Inter is waiting for developments on Calhanoglu's future before making a move. Napoli, Osimhen says no to Inzaghi: he wants Galatasaray Victor Osimhen has said no to Al-Hilal and dreams of a return to Galatasaray, who is willing to offer him €16 million per year with the support of sponsors. According to Corriere dello Sport, the obstacle remains the €75 million clause, which Napoli wants in full and immediately. If the situation does not unlock by mid-July, Osimhen will leave for the retreat with Conte. Roma, idea Ferguson for the attack Roma is evaluating Evan Ferguson of Brighton, also proposed to Atalanta. The Irish player, born in 2004, has seen his value drop to €25 million after a dull season. Advertisement The Giallorossi are reflecting on the opportunity to bet on a talent in search of a relaunch as vice Dovbyk. For Relevo, the negotiation is still in its initial phase. Lazio, cuts to unlock the market Lazio wants to reduce the wage bill to meet UEFA parameters and unlock the market from January. The priority is to place the surplus players by September 30. As Il Corriere dello Sport explains, in the autumn, renewals will begin for those whose contracts expire in 2026. Sarri will decide who stays and who leaves, also aiming to retain the top players. Fiorentina, Bernabé has said yes Fiorentina is targeting Adrian Bernabé of Parma, who has already given his okay to the transfer. According to Il Corriere dello Sport, the Emilian club is asking for around €20 million. Advertisement The midfielder, born in 2001, is at the top of Pioli's list. La Viola wants to bring him to the retreat by mid-July, but the negotiation is complex. This article was translated into English by Artificial Intelligence. Lego built F1 trophies for the British Grand Prix. Here's how they did it

SILVERSTONE, UK — When Formula One brought 10 full-size, drivable Lego cars to the Miami Grand Prix for the pre-race drivers' parade, few could have predicted the move's success. 'The fact the cars were moving was a huge surprise, but then what the drivers started to do when they got into the cars, that was even more surprising,' Julia Goldin, Lego's chief product and marketing officer, told The Athletic in an interview. 'Because we told them, 'Don't race!'' Advertisement F1 drivers being F1 drivers, they of course ended up racing and crashing into one another, despite being limited to a maximum speed of 12mph. The footage went viral. F1 and Lego announced a partnership in Las Vegas last year, which included launching an extensive product range. A car from the Speed Champions range, which includes all 10 F1 teams, apparently sells every two seconds. But Miami drivers' parade action proved such a huge hit, it left fans to wonder what might be next. So after Lego cars, now come Lego trophies. At Sunday's British GP, as F1 celebrates 75 years since the world championship started at Silverstone in 1950, the top three finishers of the race, plus the winning team, will be presented with full-size trophies made entirely out of Lego. The actual winner's trophy for the British Grand Prix is the iconic, solid-gold Royal Automobile Club Trophy. This will still be presented on the podium to the race winner along with the Lego trophy. It was the key source of inspiration to the designer of the Lego version, Samuel Liltorp Johnson. Johnson is a Lego creative lead, who normally designs model sets so large that families can build together, and has worked on projects such as Lego's 'Doctor Who' editions. He was approached back in April — before the Miami drivers' parade — with the task of making a trophy for the British GP. His initial thought was to make the trophy a big, gold Lego brick, only to quickly change plans to tap into the race's history instead. 'It's the 75th birthday, so I thought, what if we tell a heritage story?' Liltorp Johnson said. 'And the one constant in all of British motorsport is that RAC Trophy. And that was just like, 'What if we make a trophy inspired by that?' And this is the result of that inspiration.' The Lego winners' trophy isn't made out of gold, but all of the bricks have been colored with a golden chrome effect. The trophies for second and third places are white, while the constructors' trophy is black. Liltorp Johnson designed and rendered the trophy digitally, with his file comprising 20,000 Lego pieces as he made full use of Lego's brick inventory and tried different ways to get the shapes and curves he required for a trophy. Advertisement Liltorp Johnson was particularly struck by the floral patterns on the real RAC Trophy, so made use of Lego's brick flower designs. The handles were made out of curved pieces that are normally elements for palm trees or dinosaur tails. But he also wanted to add some Lego 'playfulness' to the model. This became the Lego F1 cars on each side and, of course, the classic Lego brick on the very top. The final design comprises 2,717 bricks, weighs over 2kg and is 23 inches tall. To keep it strong, Lego Technic pieces are used in the middle to serve as its 'skeleton'. The rest of the bricks are glued together. A team of eight people worked on the models and put in 200 man hours, with each trophy taking approximately one week to build. As part of his design research, Liltorp Johnson watched numerous F1 podium ceremonies to see what the drivers might do with his trophies after they were presented. 'Lewis Hamilton holds it like a baby and George Russell punches it to the sky,' he said, explaining that he'd pick the trophy up and wave it above his head to ensure it stayed together. One incident that caught his eye was Lando Norris's champagne bottle smash in Hungary two years ago, which inadvertently knocked Max Verstappen's porcelain winner's trophy off the top step and caused expensive damage. 'It's glued to ensure it doesn't fall apart,' Liltorp Johnson added. The trophies are the next big moment for F1 and Lego, but Liltorp Johnson knew the spotlight would grow after the Miami drivers' parade 'race'. 'I was in the middle of making this, and that was a 'no pressure' moment,' he said. 'Now they've made this global moment and maybe I have to compete with that. These cars are massive. It was so cool. 'That made me really excited, because you could see how happy the drivers were. It's Lego directly impacting their enjoyment of those moments.' The Lego trophies were only revealed one hour before the start of the Silverstone race by design. In Miami, it was only when the drivers' parade began that people knew the cars could actually be driven. Goldin said that F1 and Lego would be 'selective' in their major marketing projects, as they 'need to be unique and surprising.' She also talked up F1 'Easter eggs' they could work on together, such as designing the braking marker boards that have been at points of the tracks in Austria and Silverstone to imitate Lego bricks. Advertisement 'I think if we did something every week, it would not feel as special,' added Emily Prazer, F1's chief commercial officer. 'It's about making sure the ideas that we come up with collectively do feel like part of the race weekend and don't feel like we've done it for the sake of it.' Prazer said the reaction to the Miami drivers' parade had surpassed F1's expectations. 'It was wild,' she said. According to Goldin, the Lego cars parade generated a collective 24 billion views. But to keep the element of surprise, Goldin said that if the drivers' parade was repeated in the future, it would be 'not in exactly that form. It has to be something special and different.' The next major F1/Lego event is planned to take place in Las Vegas, according to Prazer, to mark one year since the partnership announcement. 'We'll do something fun,' she said. Silverstone's podium may be just the next step for Lego's F1 involvement, but for Liltorp Johnson, it will be a career high. 'What am I supposed to do now?' he joked. 'Everything's going to be boring after this, right? I feel like I can really feel when something's once in a lifetime. If I don't invest my whole self into this, when am I ever going to get that chance again? 'So that's what I've done. I've really just tried to give myself to this and just give it what it deserves.'
