Eilat Port to Close as of July 20 Due to Financial Crisis
Amir Haggag The Israeli Ports and Maritime Authority, part of the Ministry of Transportation, announced on Wednesday that the port of Eilat will completely cease operations as of next Sunday, July 20, due to the worsening debt crisis. A letter issued by the National Emergency Authority stated that the closure decision stems from the Eilat Municipality imposing a lien on the port's bank accounts due to accumulated debts, hindering the port's ability to continue operating. The authority emphasized that this step threatens to halt logistical support for the Israeli Navy in the Red Sea region, warning of potential security repercussions. Israel had previously requested the United States to resume military operations against the Houthis, citing the Houthis' intensified attacks on maritime traffic in Yemen. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle News "Tensions Escalate: Iran Probes Allegations of Indian Tech Collaboration with Israeli Intelligence" News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks Arts & Culture Hawass Foundation Launches 1st Course to Teach Ancient Egyptian Language Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream

2 dump truck drivers from same company stopped for impaired driving in Burnaby, RCMP say
Burnaby RCMP shared this photo of the dump truck being towed away for its 30-day impound. (Burnaby RCMP) Mounties in Burnaby say they're having 'bad déjà vu' after stopping a second impaired dump truck driver working for the same company as the one they stopped back in May. Burnaby RCMP said they 'can't share the company's name,' but have forwarded the details of the incident to the Ministry of Transportation and Transit's Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement unit 'to ensure they have the most up to date information for their investigation of the carrier's operations.' The latest incident occurred on July 3, Burnaby RCMP said in a news release Tuesday. The detachment's 'designated commercial vehicle enforcement officer' was driving behind the loaded truck on Boundary Road, according to police. The southbound truck was in the left lane, but the officer saw it 'cross over the centre line and swerve into the right lane several times,' police said. 'The dump truck was also observed hitting the raised centre median as it continued to swerve down Boundary Road,' the release reads. The officer stopped the truck on Marine Way at Roseberry Avenue, where the driver failed a sobriety test and received a 90-day driving prohibition, police said. They impounded the vehicle for 30 days and issued three violation tickets totalling more than $1,300. The driver Mounties stopped in May received the same consequences after being pulled over 'a couple hundred metres east' of where the more recent incident occurred, according to police. 'This is becoming too much of a regular occurrence in the Lower Mainland,' said Const. Kevin Connolly, of Burnaby RCMP's Traffic Services, in the release. In addition to the May incident, B.C. Highway Patrol officers stopped an impaired dump truck driver in Chilliwack back in April.

(OPP/X) Ontario Provincial Police say half of the commercial vehicles that underwent recent inspections in the Belleville area had to be taken off the roads for safety violations. Police said the OPP East Region Highway Safety Division, the Quinte West OPP, Belleville City Police, and the Ministry of Transportation inspected 25 vehicles in a recent blitz. Of those, 14 were taken out of service due to safety defects and three had licence plates removed because of major defects, the OPP said. The OPP laid 23 charges for violations such as overweight vehicles, expired annuals, emissions violations, pre-trip inspection violations, and improper tires, brakes, and registrations. Fines for Highway Traffic Act violations are typically higher for commercial vehicles than they are for personal vehicles.
