Eilat Port to Close as of July 20 Due to Financial Crisis
The Israeli Ports and Maritime Authority, part of the Ministry of Transportation, announced on Wednesday that the port of Eilat will completely cease operations as of next Sunday, July 20, due to the worsening debt crisis.
A letter issued by the National Emergency Authority stated that the closure decision stems from the Eilat Municipality imposing a lien on the port's bank accounts due to accumulated debts, hindering the port's ability to continue operating.
The authority emphasized that this step threatens to halt logistical support for the Israeli Navy in the Red Sea region, warning of potential security repercussions.
Israel had previously requested the United States to resume military operations against the Houthis, citing the Houthis' intensified attacks on maritime traffic in Yemen.

France foreign minister says strike on Gaza church 'unacceptable' - War on Gaza
France's Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot Thursday slammed as "unacceptable" an Israeli strike on Gaza's only Catholic church that the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem confirmed killed two people. "Unacceptable attack in Gaza against the Church of the Holy Family, historically under the protection of France," he said, alluding to a 16th-centrury accord for France to protect Catholic Christians in the Holy Land. "The church has been sheltering both Christians and Muslims, including some children with disabilities," Fadel Naem, the acting director of Al-Ahli Hospital, which received the wounded, told AP. At least two people were in critical condition, and others injured included one child with disabilities, two women, and an elderly person, Naem added. Since the start of Israel's war on Gaza in October 2023, its military has repeatedly targeted civilian infrastructure, including places of worship such as historic mosques and churches that are central to Palestine's cultural and religious heritage. According to figures published by Gaza's government media office in April, Israeli airstrikes have destroyed more than 1,000 mosques and three churches – in what many observers see as a deliberate assault on sites of worship. Over 500 killed in south Syria violence: Monitor - Region
Over 500 people people have been killed in southern Syria's Sweida province, a war monitor said Thursday, giving an updated toll after several days of clashes that triggered the deployment of government forces. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights counted 79 Druze fighters and 154 civilians from Sweida among the dead, including 83 people "who were summarily executed by members of the defence and interior ministries". The clashes also claimed the lives of 243 government personnel and 18 Bedouin fighters, in addition to three members of Bedouin tribes "who were summarily executed by Druze fighters".
