Laura Kenny taking on running challenge in lead up to Glasgow 2026
The 33-year-old won her last ever medal in the velodrome for Team England at Birmingham 2022 but will take on a new challenge as newly appointed President of Commonwealth Games England at next summer's Games. It's a role that means that she must keep her eye on a host of brand new sports. And despite always having a soft spot for track cycling, Kenny revealed that her eldest son Albie has swayed her interest this year, with his own athletics ambitions making her head swivel to the athletics track. "I've obviously always watched athletics, but last year, when we were watching the Olympics, my eldest Albie, was so interested in the running," she said. "So. I think that is what I'm most excited to see, more for his side. "I'm excited to see him actually watch a bit of live sport again, because he doesn't actually watch that much. "It's the way I got inspired as a kid, so I am hoping that it might inspire him. He does keep asking to join an athletics club anyway." The countdown to Glasgow 2026 is officially on, with today marking one year to go until the Games and Kenny's excitement around the action on the athletics track is only heightened by the re-introduction of a certain event. England have a rich history of middle-distance running, spanning from Seb Coe and Steve Ovett to Kelly Holmes and more recently Keely Hodgkinson. But its roots go all the way back to Roger Bannister's record-breaking sub-four-minute run and his glorious 'Miracle Mile' victory over Australia's John Landy in the 1954 Commonwealth Games in Vancouver. And with the mile back on the programme in Glasgow, Kenny believes its reintroduction to the Games is just the event needed to inspire the next generation of English middle-distance runners. "I think anything that brings our history back into the limelight and back into the news is great," she said. "When you look back through English middle-distance running, it's the people that everyone knows. "I mean, Kelly Holmes, to me, is an absolute idol, and every time that she opens her mouth, I'm sat there amazed. "I was so lucky because she is a mate of mine now and I still sit there and just think she is so fascinating. "Any time that we can bring these people back into the news, I think that's how we get the next generation of people moving." Kenny herself has taken up running since her retirement in 2024, using it as the perfect way to relax away from a busy household. Following the birth of her daughter Lily in May of this year, the mum of three noted that running is the best way for her to get some exercise in without being away for a long period of time. She has even admitted that competition is brewing between her and seven-time Olympic medallist husband Jason, with the two set to run the London Marathon in 2026. "It's getting the peace and quiet, and running is an obvious one for that," she said. "Because obviously I am feeding Lily, and she's a bit of a cluster feeder during the day, I don't actually get that long where it's just me, so I can't go on a three-hour bike ride. "Running is an easy one, because you don't have to run for that long to get something out of it, especially because obviously I'm not a natural runner. "I'll go out for 20 or 30, minutes and I feel that I get so much out of it fitness-wise, but also it's my time to have a bit of me time." In her new role as President, Kenny is now ready to give back to athletes in the same way she benefitted at the start of her career. And with one year to go until Glasgow 2026, the excitement is brewing. "I'm so excited," she said. "The reason I took the role in the first place was because I felt like I wanted to give back to the athletes and because Team England have played a huge part in my career. "So, the bit that I'm most excited about is actually talking to the athletes and getting involved and that will only ramp up from now." The Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games will run from 23 July to 2 August 2026. Keep up with everything Team England at

Stockton BBQ owner battles cancer, receives community support
STOCKTON — Fat City Brew & BBQ is regarded as one of the gems of the historic Miracle Mile in Stockton. Don King is the mastermind behind this popular place, and on any given day, you can find him behind the grill. But lately, King has had to take more pauses than usual as he undergoes cancer treatment. "I've only known for about four weeks now. My life changed in a couple of days," he said. In May, he was diagnosed with stage four lymphoma. "[I] have vision in [one] eye, but some of the cancer is in my head, and it messes with the muscles in my eye. That's why I have to wear a patch. I lost my voice," he said. But King says the outpouring of support kept him going. "It knocks down the nay-sayers of Stockton. It shows there are great things in Stockton. There is a community. There are great things in Stockton, a great support system. I'm living proof of it," said King. "Fat City is here because of them." People coming in and asking how they can help has been the sweetest sauce in his restaurant, King said. "People always want to do something, and I'm grateful," he said. "The biggest thing they can do is come out to Fat City. If they want to support my family, my workers, come into Fat City." On a wall inside the restaurant sits a sign from almost every local shop nearby. King said he's grateful for his employees who have stuck with him every step of the way. "I'm thankful for everybody. For all our patrons, our employees have done an excellent job keeping this place rolling, putting out great food. Exactly what I'd expect," he said. For King, personally, it's his superhero wife that makes it all possible. "Not only is she here, but she's taking care of me at home. Plus, we have two young kids. We have a 15-year-old and an 11-year-old. They're in sports and all kinds of things. I don't know how this woman does it. I'm so grateful," he said. If you'd like to support King and his restaurant, Fat City Brew & BBQ is open Tuesday through Sunday, starting every day at 11 in the morning. "I can see how people quit, but I can also see how people get stronger, and that's what I chose: [to be] stronger," he said.

Unsurprisingly, South Beach property is some of the most exclusive in the area. In contrast, North Beach has a more laid-back, residential flavor and feels like a true small-town neighborhood setting along the ocean. Amenity-rich, beachfront high-rises line stretches of beautiful sand — and you can also find more accessibly priced mid-rises and single-family homes further from the shore. In the petite 1.4 square miles of real estate available, you'll find condos with resort-style amenities on the northern end of town and single-family homes in the southern part. Emerging neighborhoods for investment potential These up-and-comers are already showing real promise, giving investors and buyers a chance to get in ahead of the buzz. Stockton Cruise Night canceled for June over budget and public safety issues
STOCKTON -- Cruise night in Stockton has been canceled, at least for this month. Stockton's Miracle Mile Improvement District announced that, as of now, the June event is scratched. They claim it's over unruly behavior, fights, and a new permit threshold. More security was also requested, pushing the event out of their budget. Robert Blasengym fixes, collects, and drives classic cars and trucks, like his Chevy truck. He is one of many car enthusiasts in Stockton who have taken part in the cruise night. "I bring my family out, my kids come out. They bring their cars out here with us, it's a fun event," he said. "It's awesome, brings a lot of people down to a historic part of town. Come out here, enjoy the cars, participate in local businesses out here." "Of course it's a bummer!" said Michelle Pak, co-owner of Seuol Soon Dubu. Pak and her family run Seoul Soon Dubu, a Korean BBQ restaurant on the Miracle Mile. While she says the event doesn't substantially help her business, she welcomed the sense of community. "The Stockton community, even the Modesto community, because there are car enthusiasts out there as well," said Pak. The MMID says they effectively canceled the upcoming June 19 cruise night, as it stands now, because of fights and violence that erupted during last month's event. "There was an incident involving a car. Somebody was pulled out of a car, there was a scuffle, the car ran over somebody's leg," said Clemm Lee, a member of the Board of Directors for the Miracle Mile Improvement District. Lee says it's these incidents that are also impacting the event's budget. "[Stockton] PD has been very clear with us that it wasn't one incident, it was multiple incidents and thus the increase in the budget for security," he said. Lee says the district has to consider the additional costs and see if the event, or future events, can move forward. "There's a subcommittee dedicated to cruise night. [We] Met at last month's cruise night, and we felt we should halt the mile's participation in cruise night until certain things come forward," said Lee. "It really sucks to have this get cancelled," said Blasengym. "It's one of the main reasons why we come down to Miracle Mile. I just wish everybody would leave that negativity at home." The subcommittee will meet on June 11 to talk about what needs to happen so the cruise night can move on.
