BJP begins ‘countdown' for LSG polls in Kerala
KOTTAYAM: The state BJP has started elaborate preparations to face the local self-government polls to be held this year end and the assembly polls to be held next year. As part of it, party state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar activated a countdown clock at the party's Kottayam west district committee office on Wednesday. The 'Mission 2025 Count Down' was kickstarted with a 100-day timeline leading up to the elections to boost the enthusiasm of workers for the election preparations. Similar countdown clocks will be installed at all district offices of the party across the state. This was decided at a state-level leadership workshop held at the party's district committee office in Kottayam on Wednesday. The meeting was attended by BJP state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar, state general secretaries, prabharis, zonal presidents, and presidents and general secretaries of various organisational districts. The workshop focussed on strategies to be adopted in the upcoming elections. The workshop decided to set the strategies on 'Vikasita Keralam' programme in line with 'Viksit Bharat 2027' mission of PM Modi. The party intends to make significant advances in the local body polls as a precursor to the assembly elections. The state leadership called on the district-level office-bearers to start preparatory activities for LSG elections that include adding voters to the electoral roll, taking up localised issues such as drinking water crisis, and envisioning development of the region. 'The campaign will highlight the necessity of the BJP coming to power to catalyse development,' said Lijinlal, BJP Kottayam west district president. The BJP state chief also inaugurated a help desk at the party Kottayam district committee office. 'The help desk will ensure that various development projects and initiatives of the Centre will reach every citizen. It will function as a link between the development vision of Narendra Modi and the public,' Rajeev Chandrasekhar said. The party leaders said the objective is to decentralise the Viksit Bharat and Vikasita Keralam Mission to the grassroots level. 'Under the mission, the party aims to ensure the development of each panchayat and municipality. We will formulate an action plan at the district and panchayat levels as part of the initiative,' said Lijinlal.

Mahagenco to set up 1071MW solar power projects for over 3L farmers in Maharashtra
Jun 25, 2025 08:26 AM IST MUMBAI: In a drive to reduce dependence on conventional energy and provide uninterrupted daytime electricity to farmers for irrigation, Maharashtra State Power Generation Company Limited (MAHAGENCO), one of India's largest state-run power producers with an installed capacity of about 13,880 MW, is set to commission solar power projects with a total capacity of 1,071 MW. Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, who also holds the energy department, said these projects are expected to benefit over 3 lakh farmers across the state. Representative picture to show solar panel (Satyabrata Tripathy/HT Photo) MAHAGENCO, after the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), is the second-largest state-owned power generation company in the country. The Chief minister's Solar Agriculture Feeder Scheme 2.0 is a flagship initiative of the Maharashtra government aimed at promoting farmers' financial growth through sustainable energy while reducing service costs for agricultural electricity consumers. As part of Mission 2025, the government aims to solarize about 30% of agricultural feeders by the end of 2025. Solar projects ranging from 0.5 MW to 25 MW will be established within a 5–10 km radius of distribution substations with agricultural loads. A strategic joint committee will be formed to ensure the timely completion of these solar projects and to provide guidance on the Solar Agriculture Feeder Scheme 2.0. MAHAGENCO and the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet will jointly develop a central dashboard to monitor daily progress in land acquisition and project implementation. The committee will include all key stakeholders who will also receive training on how to use the dashboard effectively.

Mahagenco to set up 1,071 MW solar projects; over 3 lakh farmers to benefit: Maharashtra CM Fadnavis
The Maharashtra government on Monday announced that the state-run Mahagenco would set up solar power projects with a total capacity of 1,071 megawatts under the Chief Minister's Solar Agriculture Feeder Scheme 2.0. The projects are expected to benefit over three lakh farmers across the state by ensuring uninterrupted daytime electricity for irrigation. Making the announcement, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said the initiative aims to reduce dependence on conventional energy sources, lower carbon emissions, and enhance farm productivity. 'This is not just an energy project—it's a farmer welfare initiative powered by sustainability,' he said. The solar projects will be developed near agricultural distribution substations—within a radius of 5-10 km—with capacities ranging from 0.5 MW to 25 MW. These will be dedicated exclusively to agriculture feeders, thereby reducing the load on the conventional power grid during peak hours and ensuring a timely power supply for irrigation. The Chief Minister's Solar Agriculture Feeder Scheme 2.0 falls under Mission 2025—an ambitious plan to solarise 30 per cent of all agricultural feeders by 2025. To streamline the projects' implementation and ensure transparency, the government has partnered with GEAPP India—the Indian arm of the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet, backed by the Rockefeller Foundation, the IKEA Foundation, and the Bezos Earth Fund. GEAPP will assist Mahagenco (Maharashtra State Power Generation Company Limited) by deploying a project monitoring unit and developing a digital dashboard to track project status, land acquisition, and implementation in real time. Officials said a joint strategic committee comprising representatives from the state government, Mahagenco, and GEAPP would oversee the project's execution, monitor progress, and address logistical and administrative challenges. With an installed capacity of 13,880 MW, Mahagenco is India's second-largest state-owned power generator, after the National Thermal Power Corporation. While the bulk of its power generation comes from thermal and hydroelectric sources, the company is increasingly shifting focus to renewables, particularly solar, in a bid to offer low-cost, low-emission electricity. Energy department officials said the projects would not only help stabilise the electricity supply in rural areas but also reduce subsidy burdens by lowering generation and transmission costs. 'The distributed model of solar generation aligns with both environmental goals and rural development priorities. It's a win-win for the farmers and for the state,' an official said.
