BJP begins ‘countdown' for LSG polls in Kerala
As part of it, party state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar activated a countdown clock at the party's Kottayam west district committee office on Wednesday. The 'Mission 2025 Count Down' was kickstarted with a 100-day timeline leading up to the elections to boost the enthusiasm of workers for the election preparations. Similar countdown clocks will be installed at all district offices of the party across the state.
This was decided at a state-level leadership workshop held at the party's district committee office in Kottayam on Wednesday. The meeting was attended by BJP state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar, state general secretaries, prabharis, zonal presidents, and presidents and general secretaries of various organisational districts.
The workshop focussed on strategies to be adopted in the upcoming elections. The workshop decided to set the strategies on 'Vikasita Keralam' programme in line with 'Viksit Bharat 2027' mission of PM Modi. The party intends to make significant advances in the local body polls as a precursor to the assembly elections.
The state leadership called on the district-level office-bearers to start preparatory activities for LSG elections that include adding voters to the electoral roll, taking up localised issues such as drinking water crisis, and envisioning development of the region.
'The campaign will highlight the necessity of the BJP coming to power to catalyse development,' said Lijinlal, BJP Kottayam west district president.
The BJP state chief also inaugurated a help desk at the party Kottayam district committee office. 'The help desk will ensure that various development projects and initiatives of the Centre will reach every citizen. It will function as a link between the development vision of Narendra Modi and the public,' Rajeev Chandrasekhar said.
The party leaders said the objective is to decentralise the Viksit Bharat and Vikasita Keralam Mission to the grassroots level. 'Under the mission, the party aims to ensure the development of each panchayat and municipality. We will formulate an action plan at the district and panchayat levels as part of the initiative,' said Lijinlal.

Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma made this communally provocative statement when reporters asked him this past week if the situation in the state could turn 'explosive' if his government goes ahead with its decision to issue gun licenses to 'original inhabitants'. Speaking on the sidelines of an event organised at an agricultural project of the government at Gorukhuti in Sipajhar, Sarma said, 'Someday, the situation will be explosive in Assam. How will our people survive if there is an explosion?' Sarma's comment had stemmed from his decision to issue from this August 1 gun licenses online to only 'indigenous' residents. Since this May 28, he has been claiming that 'indigenous' people residing in 'vulnerable remote areas' of five districts of the state were feeling 'insecure' and therefore, his government would be 'lenient in giving licenses to eligible people' in those areas. The districts named by the chief minister – Dhubri, Morigaon, Barpeta, Nagaon and South Salmara-Mankachar – are where Muslims of Bengali origin are in large numbers. Sarma is often noted for pairing his decision to issue gun licenses to 'our' people with the massive eviction drive the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been carrying out in the state, affecting a large number of Bengali origin Muslims, locally called Miya Mussalman. The agricultural project at Gorukhuti was launched after a massive eviction drive was carried out in 2021 by Assam Police citing a Gauhati High Court general order to clear forest areas of eviction. School building set on fire by miscreants in Arunachal Pradesh's West Siang

There were no eyewitnesses, and no call was made to the fire station at Aalo. One teacher who lives near the school was also unaware of the incident," West Siang Superintendent of Police Kardak Riba said. Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, utilizing technical evidence in their investigation. "I am deeply disturbed by the unfortunate incident at Lipu Bagra, where miscreants set fire to the Upper Primary School in the dead of night. Although I am currently out of station on unavoidable official duties, I have been in constant touch with the district administration," local MLA Topin Ete said in a statement. 'Misinformation': Chidambaram clarifies stance on Pahalgam attack remark; hits out at 'trolls'
NEW DELHI: Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram on Monday pushed back against criticism over his comments on the government's response to the Pahalgam terror attack . Chidambaram defended himself, accusing trolls of misrepresenting his interview. 'Trolls are of different kinds and use different tools to spread misinformation.
