Tom Cruise's Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning closes at ₹92 cr in India, misses franchise record by a margin

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning has concluded its theatrical journey in India, collecting a final ₹92 crore net at the box office. After four weeks of strong earnings totaling ₹89.50 crore, the film added another ₹2.50 crore in the following days to complete its lifetime figure. With new releases now taking over screens, the film is expected to add little more to its total from here. Despite falling short of expectations, the film has emerged as the second-highest earner in the Mission: Impossible franchise in India, just behind Dead Reckoning Part One, which had closed at ₹105.50 crore in 2023. It was initially expected that The Final Reckoning would surpass this figure, but that milestone remained unmet. Strong opening followed by steady run amid competition The Final Reckoning opened with the franchise's best-ever day-one collection in India. In its first week, the film earned ₹49 crore, followed by ₹24.50 crore in week two. The third week brought in ₹11.25 crore, while week four added another ₹5 crore. The final ₹2.5 crore came in after that, bringing the total to ₹92 crore. Despite facing challenges from Bloodlines, Kesari 2, and Housefull 5, the film maintained a strong presence in urban markets, supported by Tom Cruise's draw and loyal franchise fans. Global numbers fall short of break-even point On the international front, The Final Reckoning is headed towards a USD 600–625 million finish, which is higher than Dead Reckoning Part One's global collection of USD 571 million. While this would typically be a healthy figure for a long-running franchise's eighth installment, the film had an estimated budget of USD 300 million, meaning it needed to reach around USD 800 million globally to break even through theatrical revenue alone. This shortfall suggests that the producers might not recover their investment from box office earnings alone, though future streaming and syndication deals are expected to help bridge the gap. Every choice, every mission, has all led to this. Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning. May 23, 2025. Top Hollywood import in India this year Despite not meeting its highest projections, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning remains 2024's top-performing Hollywood film in India, surpassing other imports such as Final Destination: Bloodlines. Directed by Christopher McQuarrie, the movie features a cast including Hayley Atwell, Simon Pegg, and Ving Rhames, and serves as the final chapter in Ethan Hunt's journey. Though it didn't reach the ₹125 crore mark, its ₹92 crore finish still marks a strong conclusion and further solidifies the franchise's popularity in India. The Mission: Impossible films have long been a staple for Indian audiences, and The Final Reckoning is expected to maintain momentum in the digital space as fans revisit the saga online.

Top Gun: Maverick 2 Update: Tom Cruise To Return For 'One Last Ride', Confirms Director

Last Updated: Joseph Kosinski teased there was 'still more story to tell' about Cruise's character. Top Gun: Maverick director Joseph Kosinski has teased that the sequel will be 'much bigger" than the 2022 movie. The 51-year-old filmmaker is set to return for the upcoming action blockbuster in what will be the next instalment in the story of Tom Cruise's Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell, and Kosinski has now revealed the Top Gun: Maverick follow-up will see the titular fighter pilot in a 'really existential crisis". Speaking with GQ, the F1 director said: 'I think we've found a way to do it, not only in the scale of what we're proposing, but the idea itself of the story we're telling. We're thinking much bigger than … It's a really existential crisis that Maverick has in this, and it's much bigger than himself. It actually … I'm trying to describe it without giving anything away. It's an existential question that Maverick has to deal with, that would make Maverick feel small, I think, as a movie, compared to what we're talking about." By the end of Top Gun: Maverick, the naval captain passes the torch to the next generation of pilots like Bradley 'Rooster' Bradshaw (Miles Teller), Jake 'Hangman' Seresin (Glen Powell) and Robert 'Bob' Floyd (Lewis Pullman), though Kosinski teased there was 'still more story to tell" about Cruise's character. The director said: 'Yeah, there's still more story to tell for him. There's one last ride. So we're working on it now. Ehren Kruger, who wrote F1, is writing the script. Like all things, it takes a while to work things out, and we'll only do it if we feel like we've got a strong enough story." Top Gun: Maverick – which is the legacy sequel to 1986's Top Gun and also stars Jennifer Connelly and the late Val Kilmer – follows Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell (Cruise) as he trains the next generation of TOPGUN pilots while they prepare to carry out a dangerous mission. Producer Christopher McQuarrie recently said the plot for the Top Gun: Maverick sequel was 'already in the bag". During an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning director said: 'It wasn't hard. I thought it would be, and that's a good place to go from is you walk into the room going, 'Come on, what are we going to do?' and Ehren Kruger pitched something, and I went, 'Mhm actually.' And we had one conversation about it and the framework is there. So, no, it's not hard to crack. The truth of the matter is, none of these are hard to crack." While Top Gun: Maverick and its 1986 predecessor were praised for their outstanding action and impressive visuals, McQuarrie insisted 'emotion" was the key to making a successful film. He explained: 'It's as you start to execute it, and as you start to interrogate it, as you start [to think] why these movies are made the way they are. It's not the action, it's not even the level of or intensity of or the scope and scale of the action [or] the engineering around the action, it's none of those things — it's the emotion." Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise reunite at F1 London premiere, three decades after sinking their teeth into Interview with the Vampire

Fans were in for a treat on June 23 when Tom Cruise made a surprise appearance to support Brad Pitt at the London premiere of the much-anticipated film F1. The red carpet moment quickly stole the spotlight as the two actors, who starred together in Interview with the Vampire nearly 30 years ago, reunited outside the Odeon Luxe in Leicester Square. Their natural camaraderie instantly became one of the highlights of the night, sparking a wave of nostalgia among long-time fans who've been hoping to see the pair share a moment like this again in public. Set in the high-speed world of professional racing, F1 stars Brad Pitt as a former Formula One driver who comes out of retirement to mentor a rising talent and take one last shot at redemption. Directed by Joseph Kosinski, who also helmed Top Gun: Maverick, the film blends on-track action with an underdog comeback story and is already generating major buzz ahead of its theatrical release on June 27. Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise reunite after 30 years While Pitt plays the lead, Tom Cruise, fresh off the success of his film, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, came out to support the premiere as a guest, making it the first time in decades the two A-listers have been seen together at a major public event. Their last on-screen collaboration was in the 1994 gothic cult classic Interview with the Vampire, where Cruise played the charming vampire Lestat and Pitt took on the role of the brooding Louis. The film was filled with dramatic striking visuals, and seeing the two of them reconnect definitely made for a moment that will go down well in Hollywood history. And just like that….it's 1994 all over again. #TomCruise & #BradPitt — Courtney Howard (@Lulamaybelle) June 23, 2025 Wearing a forest green suit paired with a soft sage scarf, Pitt lit up the moment he spotted Cruise approaching. Cruise, dressed in a slate grey suit and a crisp blue shirt, returned the energy with a wide smile. The two Hollywood icons embraced warmly and posed side by side for the cameras, making it their first official red carpet appearance together since the America: A Tribute to Heroes benefit concert back in 2001. Fans have been hoping for an onscreen reunion for years, but so far, it's all just wishful thinking. Pitt recently poked fun at the idea during an interview with E! News, joking, 'I'm not going to hang my ass off aeroplanes,' before adding that he'd consider teaming up with Cruise 'when he does something again that's on the ground.' Meanwhile, in a separate interview with CinemaBlend during CinemaCon 2025, Cruise said, 'It's great to see Brad behind the wheel. He's a really skilled driver. Trust me, I've raced him before. Back when we were filming Interview with the Vampire, we'd wrap up for the day and spend our nights racing go-karts.' Geena Davis hails Mission: Impossible's 'great diversity'

Geena Davis loved the "great diversity" of Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning. The 69-year-old star has admitted to being impressed by the casting choices for the action movie, which saw Tom Cruise appear alongside the likes of Hayley Atwell, Pom Klementieff, Mariela Garriga and Ving Rhames. Geena told Deadline: "Did you see the new Mission: Impossible yet? I noticed the great diversity in there, women left and right, all over the place, and people of colour and it's just normal and natural. But they clearly, in my estimation, put a lot of thought into that." Genna has been trying to make the movie industry more inclusive through her Geena Davis Institute on Gender and Media, which she founded two decades ago. The award-winning actress also oversees the Bentonville Film Festival, and Genna has explained how she approaches the issue of inclusivity. She shared: "In my institute we focus on what's on screen. And in the festival, we take into account both on screen and behind the camera. So, our directors and writers and producers are very diverse as well as [the cast] on screen." Genna thinks it's important that the film industry reflects the wider population. The Accidental Tourist star said: "It just makes sense to reflect the people that are watching the movie. "Ultimately, what I think we're trying to prove is that films with unique voices that represent the population are very commercial. Research shows that the more diversity there is on screen, the more money the movie makes. But people haven't really taken that to heart as much as they could." Walmart - the supermarket chain founded in Bentonville - actually created the Bentonville Film Festival with inclusion as its focus. And Genna has relished the opportunity to lead the festival. The Hollywood star explained: "Each department of Walmart has to come up with their sort of public outreach, public service initiative that they do. "The home video department thought, 'Hey, what if we were to have a film festival for representation, that is about representation?' And they thought that was a good idea. And then I was thought of as someone who might be — they needed to get a Robert Redford or Robert De Niro, or somebody named Robert to be the person fronting it. And they thought of me, and I came here and talked to everybody, and I really wanted to do it." The Oscar-winning actress feels proud of what she's managed to achieve with the festival in a relatively short space of time. She said: "We decided to put it on very quickly, so we only had about five months to put it all together for the first iteration. But we pulled it off and it gets bigger and better every year."
