State prospered in BRS rule, as FM told Lok Sabha: Harish Rao

HYDERABAD The reiteration of Union Finance Minister Niramala Sitharaman in Lok Sabha on Monday that Telangana has made a commendable progress during the 2013-14 and 2023-24 with the State's per capita income registering a 84.3% growth and being among the top three States with highest per capita income. Senior leader of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) T. Harish Rao said in a statement on Tuesday that it was because of the vision of then Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and the commitment of BRS for Telangana's development. The State's achievement was a clear indicator of the improvement in the living standards of people and their purchasing power. He explained that the KCR government had introduced several development and welfare programmes during that period and also taken up many new initiatives such as Mission Bhagiratha, Mission Kakatiya, Rythu Bandhu, Rythu Bima, irrigation potential, IT and industrial policies, rural and urban development, employment generation and others, which brought economic stability in the State. However, the Congress which took over the State's reins in December 2023 was pushing Telangana backwards as its government was not implementing any scheme without cuts. The government has not paid the salaries of Homeguards so far this month and it was happening though the Chief Minister was holding the Home portfolio, Mr. Harish Rao said.

Fake mineral water floods shops in Wanaparthy

Wanaparthy: Fakemineral water is being sold openly and unchecked. The bottles, labelled with names of reputed brands, are being sold not only in wine shops and bars, but also in grocery stores and rural belt shops. Despite this, food safety officials are allegedly under the influence of bribes and have failed to stop the sale of adulterated drinking water. People are expressing concern that unauthorised and unregulated mineral water plants are being set up across the district and other areas, running freely without any licences. The plants do not maintain any basic standards. It is alleged that instead of purifying water properly, they are simply taking water from the prestigious Ramanpadu Project (a major drinking water project under Mission Bhagiratha in Wanaparthy), filtering it minimally or not at all, and selling it at high prices as 'mineral water' without investing much in production. In the initial days, under the guise of entrepreneurship, people began selling water in various forms, misleading the public. Fake labels mimicking well-known brands like Bisleri, Kinley, and Tata Water are being printed and stuck on cheap bottles bought at Rs 20 for 10 litres. These are then repackaged and sold for Rs 25 a litre. As per regulations, Food Safety Officers are required to inspect and test water samples every three months. However, they seem to be ignoring their responsibilities. No plant appears to follow ISI (Bureau of Indian Standards) norms. Every household uses about 20 litres of drinking water daily. Due to lack of safe alternatives, people are forced to turn to so-called 'mineral water,' allowing this exploitation to grow. Loose water is being filled into one-litre bottles and sold at bus stands and railway stations for Rs 25 a bottle. Despite promises by the former TRS government under the Mission Bhagiratha scheme to supply water through pipelines to every home in every village and mandal of the district, implementation remains poor. Though the Ramanpadu Project supplies drinking water daily, the water is often unfiltered and muddy, forcing people to avoid using it. Citizens are urging the district collector to take immediate action against fake mineral water plants, counterfeit bottled water sales and inspect wine shops and grocery stores involved in this racket.

Minister Seethakka sets monthly targets for Panchayati Raj Dept

Hyderabad, June 17 (UNI) Telangana Minister for Panchayati Raj and Rural Development, Dr Dhanasari Anasuya Seethakka, on Tuesday directed officials of the department to set monthly targets and work systematically towards their achievement to ensure the timely implementation of development and welfare activities. Chairing a high-level review meeting here, the Minister reviewed the progress of ongoing schemes such as Mission Bhagiratha, Indira Mahila Shakti, Stree Nidhi, and the newly introduced HUM Policy for rural road construction. She also addressed pending employee issues and praised the efforts of departmental staff in delivering grassroots services, an official statement said. Minister Seethakka congratulated N Sridhar on taking charge as the Principal Secretary of the Panchayati Raj and Rural Development Department, expressing confidence that under his leadership, the department would scale new heights. She recalled Sridhar's contributions as the former Warangal Collector and CMD of Singareni Collieries, particularly in her own constituency, and said his appointment would strengthen interdepartmental coordination and help secure more funding for rural initiatives. She emphasised that the department, which represents over 2.5 crore people, should function like a family—from the minister to the multipurpose worker—working together with a shared vision of village development. Highlighting the importance of rural road infrastructure, the Minister stated that 18,472 kilometres of roads would be modernised under the HUM Policy, with 7,947 kilometres to be developed in the first phase. She added that Rs 1,800 crore worth of works had already been sanctioned and instructed officials to prepare an action plan to invite tenders within the next 15 days. The guidelines for the HUM project would be released shortly, and teams had been dispatched to Maharashtra and Karnataka to study best practices for effective implementation. Seethakka noted that rural roads, once neglected, would now surpass even urban roads in quality through this policy. She also announced that this year, 1,440 Gram Panchayat buildings and 1,440 Anganwadi centres would be constructed across the state—two for each mandal. These projects are expected to be taken up under a state-wide "Work Fair," which aims to generate employment while creating durable community assets. The Minister said that the government had resolved many staff-related issues since coming to power, including the regular payment of salaries to 93,000 village-level employees through the green channel. She further informed that the file regarding MPDO transfers was with the Chief Minister, and the vehicle allowance file had reached the Finance Department, with approvals expected soon. Principal Secretary N Sridhar, addressing the meeting, said that the Panchayati Raj Department plays a vital role in empowering rural communities and women through schemes like Indira Mahila Shakti. He said the department delivers essential services from the village to the district level and pledged to hold focused review meetings with each section to enhance overall performance. Sridhar urged everyone to work in unison to bring a good name to the government under the leadership of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Minister Seethakka. He assured full commitment to building a transparent, efficient, and people-centred department. UNI VV SS

Kaleshwaram project row: If found guilty, no one will be spared, warns Revenue Min Ponguleti

MULUGU: Dismissing the claims of political vendetta behind the ongoing investigation into alleged irregularities in the execution of the Kaleshwaram project, Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy on Wednesday said that once the PC Ghose Commission submits its report, those involved will have to 'face the consequences for their misdeeds.' Speaking to the media in Mulugu, the minister said: 'There is no question of any political revenge in this issue. The Central commission is conducting the inquiry. After the Commission submits its report, the culprits will have to face the consequences. No matter who they are and what their status is, they will not be spared.' 'The previous BRS regime had projected the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme as the eighth wonder of the world. The Kalvakuntla family looted the state while pillars of the project caved in during the BRS regime itself,' he added. 'KCR, the self-declared 'father of Telangana', deposed before the PC Ghose Commission. None of the people who were involved in this scam will be excluded from this inquiry,' he further said. Stating that Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy protected the Kaleshwaram project by taking up temporary repair works, he said: 'The flaws in the project design, defects in its execution and damage caused to its various components will be revealed once the Commission of Inquiry submits its report. Then the courts will deal with it as per law.' 'The Congress government will neither spare those responsible for Kaleshwaram scam nor those involved in phone-tapping, land-grabbing, and Mission Bhagiratha scams,' he added. Earlier, Srinivas Reddy, along with Panchayati Raj & Rural Development Minister Danasari Anasuya alias Seethakka and MP P Balaram Naik, distributed sanction letters for Indiramma Housing Scheme beneficiaries at Incherla village in Mulugu district. They also laid the foundation stone for the construction of houses in the Indiramma Colony of the village. Stating that the government had sanctioned 4.5 lakh Indiramma houses in the first phase across the state, he said that the highest allocation of 5,000 houses was made in the Mulugu Assembly constituency. Later in the day, Srinivasa Reddy and Seethakka took part in the Bhu Bharathi Revenue Sadassulu programme at Govindaraopet village and interacted with the applicants.
