‘Almost an I can't spake moment' – Darts star hits brilliant nine-darter in ‘one of most insane legs ever seen'

THE Modus Super Series of Darts delivered one of the craziest legs of darts since the iconic, "I can't spake" moment. In January 2023 in the final of the World Darts Championship Michael Smith landed a nine-darter against Michael van Gerwen in one of the craziest legs of darts ever. And two-and-a-half years, later Conan Whitehead and James Richardson repeated that famous leg of darts. The moment came during the fourth day of the Super Series on Thursday. Whitehead, 39, already led the Group C clash 1-0. Richardson, 51, had a perfect response by landing six perfect darts in treble 20. The Barbarian responded in kind by matching his rival. However, Ruthless was then anything but, as he fumbled the chance of a perfect nine by landing a five in his first shot, eventually leaving the board with 96 after nine throws. Whitehead stepped to the oche with 141 remaining. And he was emphatic as he landed a treble 20, treble 19 and double 12 to finish a perfect leg to move him 2-0 ahead in the game. Reacting on social media, one fan said: "Darts heritage." A second said: "Absolutely incredible!!!" A third added: "What a leg of darts." Another said: "Almost a 'I can't spake' moment." Whitehead ended up narrowly winning the match 4-3 after a strong comeback from Richardson. He averaged 99.95 compared to his rival's 87.32. 'I want to win because I'm skint' admits darts legend as he returns to TV event

Richie Burnett was back on the oche as he made it to the semi-finals of the Modus Super Series to face Richie Howson – but he's not just playing darts for the love of the game Richie Burnett boldly claimed he was back on the oche trying to succeed "because I'm skint", as he stormed to the semi-finals of the Modus Super Series at the weekend. The darts legend, nicknamed the 'Prince of Wales', appeared on the World Seniors Darts tour this past weekend, impressing fans with his skills throughout the event. Burnett last had some success in darts at the 2023 UK Open, defeating then-world number two Peter Wright on his way to the quarter-finals. However, the 58-year-old hasn't been seen often on the darts tours, apart from winning the PDC Challenge Tour in 2024. ‌ This weekend, the ex-world champion took on the Super Series event, defeating Simon Whitlock and John Henderson on his way to the semi-final. ‌ During his post-game interview, the veteran darts star confessed the true reason behind his return to the oche. Burnett said: "Yeah, I mean look, it's hard. You're going to have good legs and bad legs, but I'm digging in there and I want to win because I'm skint, you know. I need to win." This response elicited plenty of laughter from the crowd, as Burnett continued to downplay his performance on the way to the next round. He added: "Like I say you know, years go past and you should get better as the tournament goes on but I'm not saying nothing. I'll leave it at that please, thank you." Unfortunately, the Welsh darts legend was put out in the semi-final by Richie Howson, losing 6-4 as the Englishman advanced to the final to face eventual overall winner Ross Montgomery. ‌ Burnett's appearance on the World Seniors Darts tour would have been a welcome addition for many fans who have followed him for most of his 27-year career. In a successful darts journey spanning almost three decades, Burnett appeared across various tours, winning the World Masters and Dutch Open in 1994 while playing under the British Darts Organisation umbrella. ‌ One year later, the Prince of Wales became the King as he won the World Championship, defeating Raymond van Barneveld 6-3 in the final. In 1999, Burnett switched BDO for the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC), and spent the rest of his career playing on this tour. During this time, he won various tournaments – including the Challenge Tour and the Players Championship – and also competed in the World Darts Federation tour as well.

Luke Littler bites back at darts star over comments in latest outburst

Luke Littler didn't hold back on social media as he delivered a sharp retort to veteran Neil Duff over comments he made about England's World Cup of Darts performance. Littler, along with world champ Luke Humphries, formed a dream team at the tournament in Germany but were knocked out early, following an 8-4 defeat to the hosts. The result triggered a flurry of critiques from past players and viewers, prompting Littler and Humphries to respond fiercely. And Littler wasn't finished yet, responding again after Duff's jibe at England's downfall. Duff had gloated on Facebook with the post: "How's England doing?" after the nation's stumble. But, when Duff himself floundered in the Modus Super Series, Littler seized his chance for revenge. Upon Duff's 4-1 loss to Martin Thomas of Wales, Littler took to Instagram and juxtaposed Duff's mocking Facebook post with the defeat screenshots and a sneering remark of his own: "How's Neil Duff doing?". This was the latest in a string of heated exchanges involving Littler, who earlier took aim at darts legend Dennis Priestley over comments regarding his and Humphries' MBE nominations, reports the Express. As part of the King's Birthday Honours, the pair were awarded for their contributions to the sport of darts. However, Priestley, a two-time world champion, voiced his opinion: "To be brutally honest, I don't think either Luke Littler or Luke Humphries have done enough to earn their MBEs just yet. "I think in time they could've done enough to warrant it, but it feels very early; they have both won one World Championship each and are still young in their careers. "Littler has been recognised for raising the popularity of darts, which is great, but he can still do so much more. "If he is getting an MBE this soon, then you'd have to think he is on the right path to a knighthood; nothing would surprise me now." Priestley's biting remark that Littler and Humphries "let their country down" at the World Cup appeared to have struck a chord with Littler more than anything. The 18-year-old shot back in a now-deleted Instagram story, saying: "Doesn't deserve an MBE but done more in 12 months than he ever did... that's what I would say anyway. Humphries chimed in on X (formerly Twitter), posting: "Disappointing to hear a top former pro who I admired say such a damaging thing to me and Luke. "I didn't let my country down last year, though, did I? One bad game for us, and we will be back next year to go again. Let's move on now."
