Decide UK-based woman's plea alleging harassment over property, visa fraud, HC directs Mohali SSP
The Punjab and Haryana High Court Monday directed the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Mohali, to look into a complaint filed by a UK-based woman who has alleged harassment and an attempt to grab her property by a former acquaintance and her associates. The directions came from Justice Sukhvinder Kaur while disposing of a petition filed by Gurpreet Kaur, currently residing in England. She had sought action on her complaint, dated June 12, 2025, against six private individuals. According to the petition, Gurpreet had previously worked as a student consultant with an immigration company in India and had helped one of the individuals named in the complaint, who was seeking to go to the UK. The petitioner claimed the woman was unqualified and unskilled, and had no realistic prospects of securing a work visa, despite which she insisted on seeking immigration advice. Gurpreet alleged that after she moved to the UK in July 2023, the woman continued to seek help, claiming she had lost Rs 18.5 lakh to an immigration firm and that her marriage was under strain because of the failed visa attempt. Out of sympathy, Gurpreet's family allowed her to stay in their newly purchased house at Kharar. Later, Gurpreet alleged, the woman again attempted to secure a visa through another agent, and her family provided financial assistance. However, when this attempt also failed, Gurpreet claimed she was alerted by neighbours about unusual activity at the Kharar house and asked the woman to vacate the premises. Following this, Gurpreet alleged the woman began causing trouble and tried to illegally occupy the property. She claimed that defamatory posters declaring the house as 'disputed' and labelling her family as fraudsters were pasted outside the home, and that she also received threatening calls from the woman's husband. Gurpreet's plea further said she fears being falsely implicated in police cases by the woman and others allegedly linked to the immigration firm. Taking note of the submissions, the court said it saw no objection from the state counsel and directed the SSP, Mohali, to examine the June 12 representation and take appropriate action as per law. The petition was filed through Gurpreet's father and power of attorney holder, Inderpal Singh.

Team India's biggest win margin in Test cricket: All-time record list
As the second Test between India and England is into its final day at Edgbaston, Birmingham, the stage is set for a potential record-breaking victory for Team India. After a dominant performance over four days, Shubman Gill's side has placed itself in a commanding position by setting England a mammoth target of 608 runs, the highest India has ever set on English soil. England began Day 5 at 72 for 3, still trailing by 536 runs and needing a miracle to salvage the match. For India, the target is more than just a win, it's the opportunity to rewrite history. If the hosts are dismissed for under 172 runs, India will secure their largest-ever victory in Test cricket by runs. Currently, India's biggest Test win margin stands at 434 runs, recorded against England in Rajkot in 2024. The performance then was an all-round masterclass, but what's unfolding in Birmingham could go a step further. Notably, India's record win margin away from home is 318 runs, achieved in North Sound, Antigua, against the West Indies in 2019. A win in Birmingham by a bigger margin would not only rewrite the team's all-time record but also become their greatest overseas Test victory. India's journey in Test cricket has been one of gradual domination, especially over the past decade. With young leaders like Shubman Gill taking charge and the team delivering consistent performances both home and away, such milestones are becoming increasingly frequent. This potential win is not just about the numbers but also about exorcising the ghosts of Edgbaston, a venue where India had never won a Test match in 58 years of trying. A comprehensive victory here would be historic in more ways than one.
