JAKIM Ordered To Probe Case Of Hospital Food Caterer Without Halal Certificate – Mohd Na'im
SUNGAI PETANI, July 22 (Bernama) -- The Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) has been instructed to carry out a detailed investigation into the appointment of a catering company without a Halal Certificate to supply food at a government hospital. Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar said he was unable to comment further on the matter for the time being. 'I have instructed the JAKIM director-general to look into the issue, and he will report back to me. I cannot respond until I receive his report,' he told reporters after the 'Ziarah MADANI Peduli' programme here today. At the programme in Bukit Banyan here today, he presented an RM10,000 contribution to Mohd Lutfi Radzi, who was injured in the recent bus crash on the East-West Highway (JRTB) in Gerik, Perak. Yesterday, the Auditor-General's Report (LKAN) 2/2025 revealed that Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz UKM (HCTM) had awarded a catering contract worth RM25.64 million to a company identified as 0267299-T. The company, allegedly without a Halal Certificate, was awarded the contract to supply food to patients at the hospital for three years, starting February 2024. Earlier, Mohd Na'im visited Mohd Lutfi, 37, his wife Nurul Ain Zakaria, 36, and their two children. They were the driver and passengers of a Perodua Alza car involved in the June 9 JRTB crash and had sustained injuries. Meanwhile, when met by reporters, Mohd Lutfi expressed gratitude to all Malaysians who had continuously prayed for their recovery and appreciated the assistance of police, firemen and healthcare personnel. 'Our condition has improved a lot. My wife, who fractured her ribs, is still on medical leave, and our child with the fractured thigh is already able to move independently,' he said.

The couple, with their two children, had left Terengganu to return home to Kedah on Sunday night. Then, the unthinkable happened. A speeding bus went out of control and slammed into the back of their car, sending the multi-purpose vehicle careening into a ravine. Nurul Ain Zakaria, 35, suffered an injury to her left rib, while her daughter, Nur Aisyah Nafishah Mohd Lutfi, 6, broke her right leg. Nur Aisyah's younger brother, Muhammad Ahsan Nafis, 2, was flung out of the car into a drain. Thankfully, an X-ray examination at Hospital Baling showed he did not suffer any major injuries. 'Mohd Lutfi has been discharged but is still taking care of his wife and children in the hospital,' according to his mother, Norlian Abd Halim, 58. Norlian said her son and daughter-in-law had travelled back to Terengganu the previous week to celebrate Hari Raya Aidiladha with Nurul Ain's family. She told Bernama she had tried calling Mohd Lutfi on the day they left for Terengganu, but he did not answer. He only returned her call at 8.30am on Monday. 'He told me his family was involved in an accident ... I later saw the video of the accident, but I was too shocked to watch it till the end,' she said. However, she was grateful that the family did not lose their lives in the accident. 'I hope my son, my daughter-in-law and two grandchildren recover quickly,' she said when met at her home in Pondok Ustaz Bakar, Parit Panjang, near here, yesterday. Police have recorded a statement from Mohd Lutfi but are still waiting to record a statement from the other members of the family who are still warded in Hospital Baling, said Perak police chief Comm Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin.

BALING: The mother of the Perodua Alza driver, Norlian Abd Halim, 58, is grateful and relieved that her son, daughter-in-law and two grandchildren were only injured after being involved in an accident that claimed 15 lives in Gerik, Perak, early yesterday morning. According to her, her son, Mohd Lutfi Radzi, 37, returned her call at 8.30 am, but did not respond earlier. 'He told her that his family was involved in an accident... I saw the video of the accident but I was too sad, to watch it to the end. 'I am grateful that they are safe... I hope my son, daughter-in-law and two grandchildren recover quickly,' she said when met at her home in Pondok Ustaz Bakar, Parit Panjang, near here, today. According to Norlian, her daughter-in-law, Nurul Ain Zakaria, 35, who is still being treated at the Baling Hospital, suffered an injury to her left rib while her granddaughter, Nur Aisyah Nafishah Mohd Lutfi, 6, broke her right leg.
