Nashik: The Upanagar police registered a complaint of attempted murder, rioting involving weapons, and endangering lives against 10 men from two rival gangs. Police invoked sections of the Arms Act following an alleged incident where five rounds were fired into the air during the early hours on Thursday in the Upanagar police station area. The confrontation escalated into an exchange of gunfire as both groups vied for control over the area. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. "We received a call from locals on 112 about firing in the area and the presence of people from two rival groups at Fernandes Wadi in the Upanagar police station area. They had gathered at the spot, threatening each other against entering their area of domination, which resulted in the firing of five rounds," Raut said. Sub-inspector Prabhakar Sonawane said after receiving the complaint, police teams promptly reached the scene. However, the members of both groups had already fled the area by then. Inspector Jayant Shirsath added, "Police reached the spot before the men fled. We recovered five shells that fell after the rounds were fired. No one was injured in the incident."

Nashik: Women should not shy away from dialling the Damini Squad helpline numbers if faced with untoward incidents requiring police intervention, the city police said on Thursday. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Aimed at making the city safe for women and girls, the all-women Damini Squad is a 42-member police unit which takes strict action against eve-teasers and troublemakers on the streets, officers said. From Jan 1 this year, the squad has filed cases against 4,736 troublemakers under the Maharashtra Police Act, in addition to stop-and-search operations at 1,120 deserted spots and 860 surveillance visits to schools and colleges. These actions were taken under the guidance of CP Sandeep Karnik and DCP Monica Raut. Damini squad members work in the four units of Sarkarwada, Panchavati, Ambad and Nashik Road. Senior officers said constables Mamta Dhoom and Komal Avhad detained a Bangladeshi woman from Mumbai Naka area. Additionally, squad members Jyoti Pawar and Sonali Bagul chased and arrested two people escaping with a stolen water meter. Another constable SD Walunj intervened in a street fight in the city's Kalanagar area and while frisking a minor, found a knife in his possession. Women and girls should be able to move freely across the city and if met with any troubling incident of eve-teasing or other issues, they should contact the police on '112' or use helpline numbers: 9403165830 for Panchavati division, 9403165674 for Sarkarwada division, 9404842206 for Ambad division and 9403165193 for Nashik Road division, officers said. These numbers can be dialled even after 10pm, police officers said, adding that the calls are connected to the police control room, from where help is rushed to the caller's location within minutes.

Nashik: The city police, at a programme on Friday, handed over recovered articles and goods to as many as 45 complainants. These goods valued at over Rs51 lakh had been stolen from the complainants and included 33 two-wheelers, two autorickshaws, two cars, a truck, 97g of gold and a cellphone, the police said. The 'Muddemal' return programme was organised by Zone 2 of the city police commissionerate under the guidance of CP Sandeep Karnik and DCP (Zone 2) Monica Raut. The articles returned were recovered by the police from Nashik Road, Upnagar, Indiranagar, Ambad, and Saptur police stations after cases were filed in respective stations. The complainants, especially women who got their gold chains back, expressed gratitude towards the police. Even complainants whose two-wheelers were stolen said they were grateful to the police for the speedy recovery of their stolen bikes and scooters, which were their important mode of commute to work and home. DCP Raut said they would continue with their efforts to recover maximum stolen properties and hand them to the complainants after completing all legal formalities. Nashik: The Nashik Road police booked four individuals who were found gambling with cards in full public view beneath the Nashik Road flyover on Saturday afternoon.A senior officer of the Nashik Road police stated that, as per the guidance of CP Sandeep Karnik and DCP (Zone 2) Monica Raut, they were maintaining a strict vigil on illegal activities and businesses within their Saturday afternoon, the patrolling team of the Nashik Road police spotted a group of four people accepting money from others beneath the Nashik Road flyover. The police detained them and seized cash and other articles amounting to Rs Nashik Road police are conducting raids on gambling dens and the illegal sale of liquor in the city. The police have also appealed to the public to inform them if they find any illegal business in their vicinity. The name of the informer will not be revealed to anyone, the police police stated that gambling dens are places where most criminals hang out, which eventually leads to serious offences. Director General's Insignia announced for 66 police personnel in Nashik division

Nashik: A total of 66 police personnel from the Nashik division were announced as recipients of the prestigious Director General's Insignia for their outstanding performance and service. Among the 34 recipients from Nashik city police, the top officers include deputy commissioners Prashant Bachhav and Monica Raut. Both officers are of superintendent of police rank. According to a senior officer of the police commissionerate, "The DG's Insignia was announced for 34 personnel this year, including two senior officers, four inspectors, and others. The insignia will be presented to the personnel at a programme soon." Similarly, 15 personnel were selected from the Nashik Rural police force, including sub-inspectors and others. From Jalgaon district, 10 personnel were announced as recipients of the Insignia, while four from Ahilyanagar, two from Dhule, and one from Nandurbar also found their names on the list.
