21-year-old in NYPD custody for shooting off-duty Border Patrol agent
Miguel Mora is in police custody at Lincoln Hospital, where he underwent surgery following the exchange of gunfire late Saturday with the unidentified Border Patrol agent in Riverside, New York Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch told reporters during a Sunday afternoon press conference. The suspect sustained gunshot wounds to the groin and leg.
The press conference was held at Harlem Hospital, where the 42-year-old Border Patrol agent was recovering from his injuries. He was shot in the face and forearm, and is expected to survive.

The incident occurred at about 11:53 p.m. Saturday. Authorities said the border agent and a friend were sitting on rocks along the waterside, when two males riding a scooter neared.
The passenger got off and approached the officer, producing a firearm. Tisch told reporters that upon realizing he was being robbed, the Border Patrol agent drew his own service weapon.
"The perp fired first, and an exchange of gunfire followed," she said, before the suspects fled the scene.
At 12:18 a.m. Sunday, Mora arrived at BronxCare Health System with wounds matching those sustained by the suspect seen in CCTV footage of the shooting, she said.
He was in police custody but had not been formally arrested at the time of the Sunday afternoon press conference.
Authorities are still looking for the alleged accomplice who is accused of driving the scooter.
Tisch said Mora illegally entered the United States via Arizona from Mexico in 2023.
She said he has two prior arrests for domestic violence in New York and an active warrant for failing to appear in court in one of those cases. He was also wanted in the state for robbery in December and felony assault with a stabbing in January, with both those alleged crimes occurrring in the Bronx.
Mora was also wanted in Massachusetts in connection to the February robbery of firearms from a pawn shop.
Authorities said the Border Patrol agent does not appear to have been targeted due to his profession.
The firearm used to shoot the Border Patrol agent has yet to be recovered, authorities said.
"In less than one year, he has inflicted violence in our city, and once he is charged for last night's crimes, we will be able to add attempted murder to his rap sheet," New York City Mayor Eric Adams said.

Mike Hagar of the Arkansas State Police said Sunday. Clinton David Brink, 43, and his wife, Cristenb Amanda Brinks, 41, were killed at Devil's Den State Park near Fayetteville in Washington County on Saturday afternoon, state police said. The couple, who recently moved to Prairie Grove from another state, were hiking with their daughters, 7 and 9, who were not injured. They are safe and in the custody of relatives, police said. "I want to thank the public and our media partners for their support as we pursue the man responsible for this heinous crime," Hagar said in a statement. "We are using all available resources to apprehend this suspect and bring him to justice." Assisting are local, state and federal law enforcement. The 2,500-acre park is in a remote and rural area, including rugged terrain with thick vegetation and no cellphone service. The park includes several trails and 20 miles for horseback riding. It was selected as a state park in the 1930s, and developed by the Civilian Conservation Corps, a work relief program established during the Great Depression. Devil's Den also includes caves, an 8-acre man-made lake for fishing and boating, as well as a swimming pool. Campsites and cabins are also available. Police were dispatched at 2:40 p.m. local time Saturday. Investigators have not released the circumstances of the situation but have launched a double homicide investigation. They are asking for the public' help in identifying the suspect. "Investigators are asking those who visited the park on Saturday to check cellphone photos and videos or GoPro camera footage for images of the suspect," according to the police statement. Also, people nearby are asked to check their home security camera footage. The state police believe he is a White man with a medium build who was carrying a backpack. Police said he was driving toward a park exit in a black, four-door sedan, possibly a Mazda. The vehicle may have been going on State Highway 170 to State Highway 220 near the park. There is increased law enforcement in all of the state parks. "We are praying for the family and friends of the victims, and know that law enforcement will not rest until the perpetrator is brought to justice," Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders posted on X.

Lawmakers clash on potential Maxwell pardon but work together on bill

But Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., said that "whatever they need to do to compel [Maxwell's] testimony, as long as it's truthful, I would be in favor of," on Meet the Press Sunday. Maxwell is the convicted associate of the late child sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein, who died in jail. Maxwell, with her attorney, met with Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche for two days last week, which sparked the conversation around a potential pardon. She has served five years of a 20-year sentence. There have been growing calls from Democrats and Republicans for Trump to release files on the Epstein case. "If you're asking my opinion, I think 20 years was a pittance. I think she should have a life sentence at least. I mean, think of all these unspeakable crimes," Johnson told Meet the Press moderator Kristen Welker. "It's hard to put into words how evil this was, and that she orchestrated it and was a big part of it, at least under the criminal sanction, I think is an unforgivable thing. So again, not my decision, but I have great pause about that, as any reasonable person would." When Welker pushed directly on whether Johnson favored a pardon, Johnson deferred to Trump. "Obviously that's a decision of the president. I won't get it in front of him. That's not my lane," he said. Welker conducted a joint interview with Massie and Rep. Ro Khanna, D-Calif., who are working together to push Trump to release the files. Khanna disagreed. "No, I don't" believe that Maxwell should be pardoned or have her sentence commuted. He said he is "concerned" about her meeting with Blanche. "Look, I agree with Congressman Massie that she should testify, but she's been indicted twice on perjury. This is why we need the files," Khanna added. Khanna and Massie are co-sponsoring a bill that would force the Trump administration to publish "all unclassified records" on Epstein. "Politics is the art of the doable," Massie said Sunday. "There's enough public pressure right now that we can get 218 votes and force this to a vote on the floor." Nearly a dozen House Republicans have signed on to back Massie's joint measure with Khanna. Some Democrats, including Reps. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., also signed on. Massie also went on ABC News' This Week, and said "Well, I think we should get a lot more than just the (birthday) book. Let's get the financial records of the estate. Where is it - follow the money, as they say up here," Massie told co-anchor Jonathan Karl. "We should look at the plea bargain. Open that up. See what was the deal? What was the deal that was cut? I think there's a lot more than just that letter." He told Karl about the bill. "It would force a full release of the files. It has the force of law," Massie said on This Week. "It's not a subpoena. It's not a 'Pretty please, would you release the files?' It's the force of law and it's got protections to redact victims' names and to prevent, you know, release of child pornography." Khanna added that Democrats' interest in the case is not new. "We have been pushing for transparency during the Biden administration, both in 2021 and 2024, the court ordered release of documents, but Donald Trump raised the stakes and he did it in a way in the campaign that was justified. He said, 'Look, when I get there, I'm going to release the files,'" Khanna said.

Moment thief sneakily steals bag from unsuspecting drinker outside London pub
This is the moment a sneaky thief snatches a bag outside a busy pub - as his unsuspecting victim enjoys a pint. Sid Rebai, 36, frequently targeted drinkers in the City of London, police said. CCTV footage shows him pretending to be on the phone while he uses his right foot to grab the straps of a backpack - and drag it along the ground towards him. Rebai, wearing a black baseball cap, beige hoodie, and blue jeans, then picks up the bag and hurries off without anyone noticing. However, on May 6, the thief, who was known to police, was spotted at a pub in Aldgate by plain-clothed officers from the City of London Police's Proactive Acquisitive Crime Team. They approached Rebai, found him in possession of a stolen bag, and quickly arrested him on suspicion of theft. The bag and its contents were returned to the victim. Rebai was later convicted of stealing three bags from pubs in the City on April 8, and of stealing a bag and a laptop from a pub in the Minories on April 29. He pleaded guilty to six counts of theft and was sentenced to two and a half years in prison. He was also handed a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) banning him from entering the City of London for six years.
