Shoppers say supermarket has 'lost its mind' over £80 Father's Day gift
Father's Day is fast approaching and many people will be snapping up last-minute gifts for their dad or father figure. The supermarkets have all the usual items on offer, from beer sets to best dad mugs, but there's one product that's causing a bit of a stir with shoppers. Morrisons has launched a limited-edition Toblerone bar that weighs a whopping 4.5kg and is more than 12 times the size of the regular chocolate treat. But it's not the size that has people raising their eyebrows, it's the price as the bar, which is bigger and heavier than a newborn baby, costs £80 (£60 with a Morrisons More Card). A shot of the massive Toblerone was shared on social media in the Food Finds UK Official group where people were baffled as to why anyone would ever need that much chocolate. Teddy Lowki branded it 'senseless', writing: 'Question is, does anyone really need this chocolate bar? Parting with over £50 for chocolate, I don't see the logic. Even if it was a Christmas promotion, it's just senseless.' And Giulia Viglianisi said: 'They lost their minds' as Ranae Quinn posted: 'Not a chance, doubt anyone likes their dad that much.' Diana Brown also wasn't keen, sharing: 'Love Morrisons, love Toblerone, but would never buy one that big and for that amount of money.' 'No way would I pay that,' exclaimed Jenny Cornwell, as Ian Crist asked: 'How much?!!!' 'Ridiculous price for some chocolate,' agreed Paul Smith and Mark O'Donohoe added: 'How do you justify this to yourself £60 for a chocolate bar? That's a whole shop with other treats in that shop.' Others asked if it was a 'joke' and wondered how on earth anyone would break into a chocolate bar that size. Not everyone was opposed to the product though with some being fans of it. Scott Bishop revealed he'd had one last year, as Steve Clark posted: 'More reasons to shop at Morrisons.' Kimberley Ackew admitted the chocolate bar was her 'dream', as Bex Brown claimed people were buying them, as they'd all sold out in her local store. Katy Bailey was also a fan, sharing: 'My hubby bought me one a few years back, it took us months to eat, had to use a sharp knife to segment it, it was awesome.' According to Morrisons, the Swiss milk chocolate bar is £19.99 cheaper with a More Card than it is at alternative retailers such as Amazon, where it costs £79.99. Morrisons is going hard on supersizing things for Father's Day. As well as the giant Toblerone, the retailer is also selling a Footlong sausage roll for Father's Day and both of these are available in stores until June 15. More Trending And in Morrisons Cafés nationwide, dads (and anyone who fancies it) can also tuck into a ginormous breakfast feast, as the 'Big Daddy' is back. The 23-piece fry-up is £10 and features four bacon rashers, four sausages, four crispy hash browns, three slices of black pudding, three fried eggs, baked beans, sliced mushrooms and not one, or two but three slices of bread with butter. For Morrisons Scottish customers, the four sausages and four hash browns are replaced with four Lorne sausages and four traditional potato scones. View More » Chris Strong, senior café trading manager at Morrisons, said: 'Back by popular demand, our Big Daddy Breakfast is bigger and better! It's for the hungriest of dads and father figures that do us proud. We've created the Big Daddy Breakfast to be bold, satisfying, and full of classic favourites, all at a price that's hard to beat.' Cheapest supermarket selling massive Toblerone bars for just £3 revealed as shoppers grab them for Father's Day
MORRISONS has the lowest price for a big Toblerone bar just in time for Father's Day. The major supermarket has slashed the price of the 360g block of chocolate in multiple flavours by 50 percent. 2 The £3 price tag for the tasty Swiss bar is available to those with a Morrisons' member card. This price is cheaper than the next lowest of £4.75 which is available at Tesco for Clubcard holders only. Otherwise the 40 gram bar of Milk Chocolate Toblerone and other flavours is currently listed for £6 at Tesco, Sainsbury' s and Ocado. The price drop comes days after Morrisons restocked the gigantic Toblerone bar which weighs 4.5kg and is more than 12 times bigger. The limited-edition bar is in stores now and will be until Sunday June 15, 2025 making it the perfect present for Father's day. While the bar weighs in at a hefty weight, so does the price, with the bar on offer at £60 for customers with a More Card. However, those without a More Card will have to pay the full price of £80. The chocolate bar is only available in store at Morrisons but is also currently sold on Amazon for £69.99. Along with the Toblerone deals, savvy shoppers noted how Morrisons is also offering a great price of Terry's Chocolate Orange. The major supermarket slashed the price of the beloved chocolate favourite and shoppers can choose from two different flavours. What is loyalty pricing? You may have heard of loyalty pricing, but do you know what it is? Sainsbury's, Tesco and Morrisons are three supermarkets that offer customers signed up to their loyalty schemes exclusive discounts - known as loyalty pricing. All three retailer's schemes, Nectar Card, Clubcard and More Card, are free to sign up to as well. The obvious advantage to loyalty pricing is that you can save potentially hundreds of pounds a year on your shopping, all without spending a penny. But different supermarkets offer exclusive discounts on different products, so do some research before doing your shopping. Either way, be wary of supermarkets artificially inflating prices to make it seem like you're getting a better deal than you are. A previous investigation by consumer group Which? found Sainsbury's and Tesco have increased the price of everyday goods then slapped loyalty prices on them thinking customers wouldn't notice. Either way, it's worth shopping around though. Supermarkets change their prices all the time, sometimes multiple times daily, so it's worth researching to ensure you're getting the best price on an item. You can use websites like Trolley to see how the major supermarket's compare in terms of price on any number of goods. Morrisons is selling the 90g ball in both the original and mint flavours for £1.50, for those with a member's card. The full price of the tasty treat is usually £2 and the reduced price is also cheaper than what Sainsbury's and Tesco sell it for, which is £1.95 at both supermarkets. Even with a Tesco Clubcard, Terry's Chocolate Orange 90g costs £1.75, making the Morrisons offer cheaper. 2
