Motaung reacts to Kaizer Chiefs pre-season defeat

Kaizer Chiefs sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jr has reflected following the club's first match of their 2025 pre-season. Amakhosi went down 2-1 to Vitesse in the Netherlands on Tuesday. Having arrived in the country last week, Chiefs played their first practice match, where new players were given a run. Motaung Jr said the camp was aimed at getting the best out of their players and taking them out of their comfort zone. 'It's about cross-cultures and about having a pre-season at a higher level than we are used to, which also has to do with having really competitive training matches,' Motaung Jnr told Chiefs' website. 'Training and playing games in Europe is also about getting players out of their comfort zone. It's a different environment; it's about a lot of travelling to the training matches, and it's about preparing the mindset of players for the upcoming season.' The Kaizer Chiefs boss says the pre-season training matches will help players improve. 'We want the players to test themselves against these really strong sides. They will learn from it and will not only become better as individual players, but, maybe even more important, improve as a team. 'That's why we are so happy that the Chairman, Dr Kaizer Motaung, and the Board supported us to go overseas for pre-season again. 'Going to Holland is not only something new for the youngsters, but also for several of the older players,' the former Kaizer Chiefs striker added. 'It's about integrating the newly signed players into the squad and bonding as a team. 'The most important aspect, of course, is to get the players fully prepared for the upcoming season, both from a physical and tactical point of view.' Pressure mounts on Nasreddine Nabi as Kaizer Motaung Jr demands top 8 finish

'We need to be [in the top 8],' Motaung Jr, son of club founder and chairman Kaizer Motaung said on 5fm. Speaking on 5fm's, Motaung Jr reiterated how important it was for the club to finish in the top half, especially after they missed out on that target last season, where they could only manage 10th place. With two games left to play, Amakhosi find themselves in ninth place, but last weekend's Nedbank Cup final win over Orlando Pirates should give them the belief they can pick up the points needed to put them in the top half of the table. 'We know our objectives before the season started. We missed out on it last year… We are going to give everything that we can to make sure that we feature in every cup possible next season. 'It's two tough games – Polokwane City and Sekhukhune, teams that are actually doing well this season. So, it won't be easy but from our side it's a must. 'We need to be in the top 8 and give everything we can to make sure we do that.' Despite Nabi helping the club end a 10-year trophy drought last weekend, the Tunisian has found himself fighting for his job after a difficult season. Earlier this week, reports suggested the club had decided to part ways with their coach at the end of the season, but Motaung Jr denied this. However, he did reveal they were due to have a meeting with Nabi at the end of the season to assess where they were as a club. IOL Sport

Kaizer Chiefs' Motaung responds to Nabi exit reports

"We're just planning for the future,' says the Chiefs sporting director. Kaizer Chiefs sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jr has responded to rumours that head coach Nasreddine Nabi will be leaving the club at the end of the season. This comes after the Sunday Times reported this past weekend that Chiefs will fire Nabi and his technical team. OPINION – Now Chiefs need to build sustainable success The report came a day after Nabi led Amakhosi to the Nedbank Cup triumph over rivals at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday. Speaking to Xoli Zondo on 5FM on Monday morning, Motaung Jr dismissed the rumours, saying no decision has been made yet on Nabi's future. 'Coach has got another season after this with us now,' said Motaung Jr. 'At the same time, like we do after every season, we sit down and review. We know that the results in the league have been inconsistent. 'We know that we've just been able to achieve a record milestone. With everything else, we're moving forward in our planning. 'We want to savour this moment, massively view this moment moving forward. And galvanise the supporters, the technical team, the players, and the staff for the mission ahead. So, we're just planning for the future.' Will Nedbank Cup triumph save Nabi's job? Meanwhile, speaking after his side's victory over Pirates, Nabi said that he was hoping that winning the Nedbank Cup would convince the Amakhosi fans that he is the right man to lead the club. ALSO READ: Pirates grant Riveiro early release after he 'signs' with new club 'My first objective for the club is to place Kaizer Chiefs back in its natural position. I'm happy for this trophy because it is going to help me continue my process, and it is going to give the fans a lot more confidence in this project,' said Nabi. However, with Chiefs in danger of missing out on the top eight, it remains to be seen if the club's hierarchy will decide to keep him for next season or terminate his contract.
