The mini-retrospective begins with 1964's The Umbrellas of Cherbourg, a whimsical, candy-coloured movie musical starring Catherine Deneuve as Genvieve, an umbrella-shop owner's daughter who falls in love with Guy, a handsome garage mechanic played by Nino Castelnuovo, only for him to be sent away to war. Scored by frequent collaborator Michel Legrand, The Umbrellas of Cherbourg won the Palme d'Or at the 1964 Cannes Film Festival, was nominated for five Academy Awards and made Deneuve a star. The mysterious local producer Ali Wan Kenobi has teamed up with local rapper Pile to release an EP, launching at Public Domain Friday. Ali Wan Kenobi keeps pumping it out. That's the monicker for the mysterious local producer who seems to put out a new mixtape of lo-fi house and hip hop every month or two. (Last we checked his bandcamp, he'd produced over 30 of such short albums since the pandemic.) But quantity doesn't always trump quality even when the former is in strong supply and Ali has long been immersed in the most experimental styles of Internet-centric 'boom bap' beats. For the second time in the past year, Ali has teamed up with a local rapper to produce a vocal-driven EP heralded by a release show at the Public Domain. Last time it was Dill, this time it's rapper-visual artist Pile, whose grit, rasp and wit brings to mind the early sounds of Tyler, the Creator. Despite obviously drawing heavily on samples in his beats, Ali tends to pepper his shows with live instrumentalists and singers. This one's no different, featuring a who's who of the local hip hop and R&B scene. —Conrad Sweatman Chris Young / The Canadian Press files The Sadies are one of the best live bands in the country. Chris Young / The Canadian Press files The Sadies are one of the best live bands in the country. The Sadies can't be stopped. The genre-spanning Toronto band returns to Winnipeg tonight with a show at Blue Note Park just over a year after their last sold-out show at the same outdoor venue. The band — Travis Good (guitar, fiddle mandolin, vocals), Sean Dean (bass) and Mike Belitsky (drums) — has continued touring as a trio following the unexpected death of founder vocalist-guitarist Dallas Good on Feb. 17, 2022 of a coronary condition. The group, which formed in 1994, remains a live force to be reckoned with, offering up a mix of old-school country and western, roots, bluegrass, garage rock and twangy surf during unpredictable sets that have been known to last as long as three hours. Opening the show is local bluegrass outfit the D. Rangers, which has continued as a quartet following the death of beloved fiddle player Don Zueff last October at the age of 73. — Rob Williams Walking tours are ingenious ways to learn a city, even one you think you know. Exercise plus knowledge equals time well spent, especially during Winnipeg's short but glorious summers. This tour takes history-hungry visitors on a trek from the Alloway Arch at The Forks to Dalnavert Museum (61 Carleton St.), the former home of Sir Hugh John Macdonald. Macdonald (1850-1929) is a former premier of Manitoba and the son of John A. Macdonald, Canada's First Prime Minister. Built in 1895, Dalnavert was converted into a museum in 1974 after a top to bottom restoration by the Manitoba Historical Society, including Victorian-era furnishings. The red-brick mansion is now considered one of the finest examples of Queen Anne Revival architecture in Western Canada. This 60-minute walking tour asks: what was life like for people in Winnipeg 100 years ago? In that era, Winnipeg was still being called the 'Gateway to the West' and 'Chicago of the North' but things were changing: the First World War, the Spanish flu pandemic and the 1919 General Strike had already happened and the 1929 Wall Street Crash and the Great Depression were on the horizon. But from the very beginning, Winnipeg's built landscape was shaped by classism and inequality. The tour explores Winnipeg's built landscape, what organizers are calling 'Winnipeg's roots and foundations,' from boom to bust to the present day. The Poverty and Prosperity walking tour is offered every Thursday and Saturday until Aug. 28. Dalnavert also offers a Homeland of the Red River Métis walking tour Aug. 8 at 1:30 p.m. that leaves from the museum. Tickets for this tour are $15 at (members pay $5). — Ariel Gordon

Love Island fans fume at show bosses for giving Shakira the 'villain edit' during the Grafties - after 'convincing' her to stay following emotional breakdown
Love Island fans have hit out at show bosses during Thursday's episode after they were left unimpressed by how Shakira Khan was given the 'villain edit'. Prior to the episode airing, It was reported that the 22-year-old threatened to quit the ITV2 dating show over the situation with Harry. A source told The Sun: 'She went to the beach hut and asked to leave the villa. 'The duty of care team were able to help her through her emotions and she decided to stay.' In the latest episode of the ITV show, the infamous Grafties returned - where contestants are shown clips on a big screen that either revive past drama or highlight hilarious moments that most of the villa hadn't seen before. The nominees for the Best Double Act award were Dejon and Helena, Toni and Shakira, and Helena and Meg. During the clips, Toni and Shakira were seen talking negatively about Meg, following movie night. After watching the gossip on the big screen, Meg said she felt that Shakira and Toni were 'fake to her face,' prompting Toni to fire back: 'So are you. You act like you never say a bad thing about anyone.' Next came Helena and Meg's clip, which, in contrast, highlighted their blossoming friendship in the villa. Toni and Shakira went on to win the award, with Shakira saying: 'We said what we said, it was after Movie Night. 'I don't know why it's so surprising, we had a scrap that night.' Fans are now calling out show bosses for giving Shakira the 'villain edit' during the game. They raged on X: 'If they hurt Shakira anymore I'm literally going to stay for the credits, note down each producers name and HUNT THEM DOWN,' 'The producers convincing Shakira to stay in the villa so she could get attacked at the grafties is just evil #LoveIsland,' 'The fact we've seen Shakira be so sad, open & vulnerable recently. And now the producers are gonna paint her out to be bad with the Grafties, and make her feel even worse :(( i don't wanna watch,' 'Look at the clip they used for Meg and Helena vs the one they used for Shakira and Toni, and tell me again with a straight face that there isn't a clear agenda,' 'Why are the producers giving Shakira and Toni this bad edit!' 'Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if Shakira ends up leaving after the Grafties give her a bad edit. Her mental health is really suffering,' MailOnline has contacted ITV bosses for comment. It comes after there was a wave of concern for Shakira's mental health, who fans said already appears 'emotionally drained' on the programme. Viewers penned on X: 'funny how love island preaches about mental health and how the public should go easy on the islanders only to THEMSELVES use the most amount of vids of shakira for the grafties to push the mean girl narrative and sent back in megan one of the buIIies', 'this princess deserved so much better. i hope she walks for her own mental health. shakira you are loved worldwide and are better than love island', 'Shakira is emotionally drained and not okay Love Island uk is responsible for her mental health the contestants the producers the therapists everyone', 'Really not keen on the production team for the constant shots thrown at shakira. We only see one hour of the whole day and it's clear she's down and not feeling herself. Where's the mental health team love island are so vocal about? #LoveIslandUK'. However others were quick to defend Shakira's decision, with tweets including: 'Shakira is so real that she's willing to leave the villa without a man or winning instead of faking it with Conor till the end, if anything we can be proud of her for staying true to herself but damn Harry?!? ''I do like him, I just don't like him enough'', you know what Shakira that's real;' ''I just wanna be single forever'' Shakira this is so real;' 'Well you can't say Shakira is a game-player! She could have faked it with Ty and Conor to get to the final and potentially win but looks like she dgaf about winning or getting to the final;' Shakira has always been so honest and upfront in her couples., she's a genuine sensitive girl who won't fake s**t for the sake of it. Love her so much;' One thing about Shakira she'll follow her heart no matter if she's favourite couple or not at the bottom;' 'Wait now I'm kinda glad Meg is back because it softens the blow and makes Shakira feel better;' MailOnline has contacted Love Island for comment. In recent days, Shakira has been in floods of tears and has persistently said she 'can't wait to leave the villa' following a rocky start to her journey with Harry Cooksley. During the episode Shakira shut down her short-lived romance with Conor Phillips after struggling to get over her feelings for Harry. Last week, Shakira broke down in tears after a heated row with Conor after Harrison said during the Couple Of Sorts game that she had deeper feelings for Harry - who she was paired with earlier in the series. She told Conor: 'It's been twisted and you've wanted to believe the boys straight away. It's ego and pride. Wake up, Conor. 'They're literally the biggest game-players here. When have I ever lied to you? Their argument leaves Shakira feeling upset and she goes to Toni and Yasmin for comfort. Love Island fans threaten Ofcom complaints after 'shameful' and 'nasty' edit
Love Island aired tears and showdowns on the ITV2 series on Thursday night, as the Grafties revealed secret comments made about some of the Islanders and fans were unimpressed Some Love Island fans were quick to call out the "selective" and "shameful" edit by producers on Thursday night, which appeared to yet again favour two Islanders over another pair. For weeks fans have called out "bullying" behaviour by some of the girls towards others, believing Shakira and Toni had deliberately been targeted with unkind comments and behaviour. Of course Toni and Shakira have made their own comments about some of their co-stars, but scenes involving Meg, Megan and Helena have been called out across the series. Something else constantly called out, especially this week, is the edit by the team putting the episodes out. Fans have suggested some of the episodes have made some stars look better than others, with it also suggested certain people have been "set up" to look like "villains". Just days ago fans called out the show for "setting up" Shakira and Toni with certain parts of the show, as well as their nomination in the Grafties. As the awards played out in the latest episode, it seems the inclusion of their secret chat about Meg, Helena, Dejon and Harry had the desired effect. The villa fell silent with everyone awkward, while Toni and Shakira defended their remarks about the quartet that had been made on Movie Night, after a row. Movie Night had aired some more secret chats that sparked a villa row, and it was this which led to Toni and Shakira saying what they said - as shown on Thursday. But Meg immediately called them out leading to a back and forth of words between all those involved. Meg ended up in tears as Helena denied telling Shakira that Meg "hated her", and both girls were clearly unimpressed by the conversation they'd only just learned of. Harry and Dejon also took offence and admitted they were shocked by it, and ultimately Shakira and Toni hoped exactly what they had said about the girls, referencing the group divide and things Meg and Helena had said about people, would come to light. Unfortunately it did not, and viewers were left furious as the show played out a clip of Meg and Helena that was "tame". There was no drama in their clip and it was a recent moment, nothing from the past or from conversations where they have discussed their co-stars. Viewers slammed the difference between the way each pair had been portrayed, and their "deliberate" decision to not show the "worse" clips of Meg and Helena. Once again accusing the show of trying to make Toni and Shakira the "villains", fans threatened to go to Ofcom about the scenes and called the decided edit "insane" and "nasty". Taking to social media one fan said: "This is a VERY tame edit for Helena and Meg. The producers definitely have something against Shakira and Toni." Another fan posted: "Im reporting you to Ofcom," as a third agreed: "OFCOM OFCOM OFCOM." A fourth fan said: "The producers are doing EVERYTHING to make Toni and Shakira look like villains and Meg and Helena innocent like the difference in these clips is INSANE." Stunned by the Meg and Helena clip, a fan responded: "You should be ashamed of yourselves making the villa turn against them knowing full well what Helena and Meg say about others." Another said: "That Meg and Helena clip was so dumb, they've said worse," while a further post read: "Making Meg and Helena look good when they could have shown MULTIPLE clips of them being straight out nasty I hate these producers."

The Love Island 'Grafties' Shock Twists Revealed
Over it's 12 seasons, there's been plenty of things that have since become staples of Love Island : Casa Amor, Movie Night, and of course, the legendary Grafties. The Grafties is back, with ITV recently opening their votes. And if this year's nominations are anything to go by, some of our islanders – including Dejon Noel-Williams and Harry Cooksley – could be in for an uncomfortable evening. However, the nominations have left some Love Island fans feeling unhappy. With Toni Laites and Shakira Khan's names popping up in several categories, some viewers have hit out at producers – claiming the fan favourite duo are being given the 'meal girl' edit. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), one fan wrote, 'Watch the Grafties make Toni, Yas and Shakira look bad, and watch Harry, Dejon and Meg get away with everything. This show is boring now.' 'First they bring back Megan, now pretty much all of the negative clips of Shakira for the Grafties. Love Island producers are really working overtime to try and cause a Shakira downfall,' added another. And for some, the Grafties might be their final straw when it comes to the ITV dating now. 'The last two eps plus the preview for the Grafties tell me everything I need to know… The producers want Meg and Dejon to win for whatever reason. They rate game playing characters over genuine connections now. Throw away the whole show at this point,' wrote one viewer. They're set to cause chaos during tonight's episode – but what exactly are the Grafties? Here's everything you need to know. The Grafties are a public voted award ceremony that takes place in the villa, where islanders are awarded trophies based on certain categories. This year, viewers were given the chance to vote via polls on the official Love Island Instagram page story. A little bit like the infamous movie night, the red carpet is rolled out as clips are shown on the big screen for our islanders to watch. More often than not, it's the prime time to bring up old drama with some clips our contestants have never seen before. It's caused chaos in the villa during previous seasons. Need we remind you of 2023's Messy Mitch, whose savage 'Mad Moves' speech led to one of the show's most dramatic moments? For this year's Grafties, our categories and nominees are: The best no filter moment: Dejon, Harry, Toni & Shakira. Most emotional moment: Cach, Shakira, Toni Best double act: Shakira & Toni, Helena & Dejon, Meg & Helena. Unfinished business: Harry & Emma, Shakira & Harry, Conor & Meg Flirtiest performance: Harry, Jamie, Harry & Angel Eat, sleep, crack on, repeat: Dejon, Conor, Helena Fans who snuck a late look at the polls think they may have some idea who could be taking home the trophy in certain categories, but we'll have to wait and see. We've got bad news. Unfortunately, the public vote is now closed. If you didn't vote in the Instagram polls, then you've missed out. The official Love Island Instagram announced the nominees on the 22nd July, allowing fans to vote for 24 hours exclusively via their social media. Even if you didn't vote, you'll still get to see all the drama unfold. 2025's Love Island Grafties will take place tonight, 24 July 2025. As per usual, you can see it by tuning in for Love Island at 9pm on ITV2 or ITVX. It's about to get messy. Charlotte Roberts is a news and entertainment writer at Grazia UK. Burning Questions Fans Want Answered at the Love Island USA Season 7 Reunion
Source: Courtesy / Peacock After a season full of shocking recouplings, social media controversies, and one of the most chaotic Casa Amor twists yet, viewers are dying to know what really went down behind the scenes and where the couples stand now. From messy breakups to undercover secrets, unanswered questions have kept Reddit and X threads alive all summer. The reunion is set for August 25 at 9 PM ET/6 PM PT on Peacock and hosted by Ariana Madix and Andy Cohen. Fans are hoping for some clarity, drama, and maybe even a few surprises. Will some Islanders finally come clean on their true feelings? Will fan-favorite couples survive the spotlight? And will the most talked-about contestants even show up? Here are the biggest questions fans are hoping get answered when everyone's back under one roof: Did Chris throw the finale on purpose? Chris seemed completely checked out during the finale — and even dumped Huda at the very last minute. Was he trying to avoid the spotlight, or just avoid splitting the prize money? Their split didn't exactly shock fans (many were surprised they even made it to the top three), but what actually triggered the breakup? Both have given vague post‑Villa interviews, but viewers still aren't buying the story. Nicolandria: genuine love or a production play? Nic and Olandria have been inseparable since the Villa, at least online. But are they actually in love — or just playing along for the cameras and brand deals? Fans also want to know: what were Cierra's real feelings about their connection, especially since Movie Night (where receipts usually get aired) was skipped this year. Why was Movie Night skipped, and what really happened during the Heart Rate Challenge? Producers confirmed the fan‑favorite Movie Night segment was cut, but why? Were there clips that would've blown up too many relationships? And fans still want to see the uncut version of the Heart Rate Challenge, which sparked tension but clearly left out some big reactions. What really went down during the Stand On Business challenge? We all know the cameras don't show everything, and this challenge clearly rattled the Villa. What big arguments, shady answers, or walkouts got cut from the final edit? And who actually broke down once the cameras turned away? Did Nic actually have feelings for Cierra, or was he just playing it safe? Before Cierra's controversial exit over her resurfaced racist posts, she and Nic abruptly called it quits. But was Nic's connection with her ever real — or was he keeping her close just to stay in the game? Fans want him to finally tell the truth. Just how toxic did the Villa get during the Huda‑Jeremiah fallout? That fallout divided the Villa, with some Islanders saving Huda while others clearly regretted it. Does anyone now wish they'd handled it differently? And who still stands by their decision to back her? Did Taylor ever admit his true feelings for Olandria inside the villa, or just vent to the boys? Taylor's subtle flirting with Olandria didn't go unnoticed by viewers. But did he ever come clean to her about how he felt — or was he content keeping it between the boys and hoping no one else caught on?
