Second Shot at Love – K-drama Episode 12 Recap, Review & Ending Explained

Episode 12 Episode 12 of Second Shot at Love begins with Geum-ju and Ui-joon heading to the nursing home. Mr Seo is drinking nearby and sees them. Geum-ju waits outside and calls the cops when Mr Seo goes after Ui-joon. Why did Nurse Baek abandon Ui-joon? Nurse Baek survives the stabbing and Geum-ju heads to her place to pick up some clothes. She ends up finding a letter which details why Baek left Ui-joon. A flashback shows that Baek gets pregnant with Ui-joon when she is in college. Her father disapproves and wants her to get an abortion. When she refuses, he forces her to give Ui-joon to Seo's mother and sends her abroad. She finally returns during Ui-joon's graduation. She keeps her identity a secret as she believes it would hurt less if he thought his mother had died. Once he becomes a doctor, she stays by his side. On his birthday, her father wants to meet her. It is why she swaps shifts with Nurse Jeong. After the murder, she promises to make Mr Seo pay for ruining Jeong and Ui-joon. At present, Ui-joon confronts her and she reveals that she was scared. The town ladies learn that Baek paid for all of Ui-joon's 'scholarships' and tuition. While the cops search for Mr Seo, there is also an investigation as Baek kidnapped him and held him captive in the nursing home. How does Ui-joon come to terms with the situation? Ui-joon isn't sure how to react to his mother and avoids Baek. She asks Geum-ju to stay by his side no matter what. She ends up revealing how he cut ties with Geum-ju because he was afraid Mr Seo would hurt her. Fortunately, Ui-joon has no such plans. He promises that he won't leave Geum-ju again to protect her. To lighten the mood, Geum-ju jokes that she will protect him. She helps him find Mr Seo but unfortunately, it is too late. Seo gets drunk and passes away at his mother's grave due to alcohol poisoning. Ui-joon holds his funeral but no one is present. Gradually, everyone from Bochun shows up and helps with the ceremony. Even the elderly patients send condolence wreaths. Ui-joon is overwhelmed and thinks he has failed as a doctor and a son. He also blames himself for Baek's injury. Geum-ju assures him that Baek endured it all so her son could find some happiness. In the end, he brings Nurse Baek to the funeral and accepts that it was alcohol that ruined Mr Seo. He also calls Nurse Baek his mother and thanks her for being by his side. She tears up as she calls him her son and they hug. How do Seon-wook and Hyeon-ju get together? Seon-wook runs away to Seoul as he has a hard time getting over Hyeon-ju. Seon-hwa is sick with worry and her mother-in-law comforts her. She regrets opposing Seon-hwa and Young-woong's marriage. No one can stop love and she urges Seon-hwa to be happy for Seon-wook and Hyeon-ju. Hyeon-ju tries to surreptitiously bring some food but Seon-hwa catches her. Hyeon-ju declares that she is ready to wait till Seon-hwa becomes her friend again. She accepts that Seon-wook's kindness kindled her feelings for him but she will let them go. However, Seon-hwa tells her not to give them up. Gwang-ok also urges Hyeon-ju to be courageous. Turns out Jeong-su and Gwang-ok have a rich guy-poor girl love story. She thought she would ruin him but soon realised that she could not live without him. She tells Hyeon-ju not to have any regrets. At present, Hyeon-ju finds Seon-wook. He is shocked that Seon-hwa gave her blessing and that Hyeon-ju wants to date him. He is overjoyed and they hug. How does it end for everyone? A year passes by. Nurse Baek's probation is over and she joins a cooking club. Geum-ju and Ui-joon are happy and still dating. At home, Ui-joon and Seon-wook often compete over the title of best future son-in-law. Ui-joon leaves the clinic and opens a hospital to treat alcoholism. Geum-ju goes to team dinners now but remains sober. At the end of Second Shot at Love Episode 12, Geum-ju and Ui-joon go on a run. She is still tempted by alcohol now and then. To distract her, he kisses her and she runs after him for more. The Episode Review With most of the drama wrapped up, Second Shot at Love Episode 12 gets emotional as it solely focuses on Ui-joon and his family. The K-drama continues with the theme of alcoholism but with Mr Seo, who ends up hurting his ex and dying because of it. However, there is too much going on, in fact, worthy of a whole K-drama instead of a one-episode subplot. Mr Seo goes from wanting money from Ui-joon to wanting to kill him as a way to get back at his ex. But it is never shown when Seo realises that Baek is back. It is not clear when they broke up and it doesn't make sense why Grandma Seo takes in the child of her teenage son's ex-girlfriend. If Baek's family is so powerful that they keep Nurse Baek abroad till she is a middle-aged woman, why do they stop caring once she returns and sticks by Ui-joon's side? If Mr Seo was such a bad man, why did he visit his mother's grave? There are too many plot holes that are never explained and it is a shame, as this storyline is quite intriguing. Unfortunately, this show was never about the Baek family drama. But by shoving it into the finale, the Hans don't get the finale they deserve. Geum-ju becomes a secondary character in her own show. Hyeon-ju and Seon-wook barely get any space to wrap up their love story. And apart from a few passing comments about the Hans' alcoholism, it is never brought up again. All in all, as a stand-alone episode, this one works as a strong foundation for a thriller that we will never get, and ends up as a disappointing final episode for the show it actually belongs to. Second Shot at Love – K-drama Episode 11 Recap & Review

Episode 11 Episode 11 of Second Shot at Love begins with Geum-ju comforting Ui-joon. He tells her about his past. In 1996, his mother dies and unable to take it, his father abandons him. His grandmother and Geum-ju are the only two people in his life. When he grows up, his father returns as an alcoholic, demanding money. After Ui-joon becomes a doctor, he gets Mr Seo admitted against his wishes. Mr Seo lies about his recovery and once he is out, he attacks Ui-joon on his birthday and accidentally kills Nurse Jeong. Because of his clinically proven alcoholism, he gets a light sentence. Ui-joon blames himself for the lenient punishment and Jeong's death. It is also why he has been sober. Gwang-ok is discharged from the hospital and everyone welcomes her. Once Nurse Baek has Gwang-ok settled, she leaves, citing the umpteenth club she has joined to look after Ui-joon. The Hans gush over how lucky Ui-joon is to have her. Geum-ju does find their close bond odd but Ui-joon jokes that he is likeable. It cuts to Mr Seo, causing a scene whenever he is conscious. Nurse Baek wonders if her visit triggered him. We also learn that the cops helped Ui-joon contact Caretaker Oh. He tells Nurse Baek about the meeting and she wishes he would move on and live a happy life. He learns that Oh and Baek are classmates but Baek claims not to know her. Onto the second lead couple's drama. Hyeon-ju takes her twins out of the taekwondo class. Seon-wook begs Seon-hwa to help change her mind but his sister vaguely refuses. Once he leaves, she declares that she is done with Hyeon-ju for good. Next, Ms Nosy continues to sulk and avoid Gwang-ok. However, Gwang-ok shows up, having missed her. Ms Nosy feels guilty for being rude to her and the illness gave her a reality check. A flashback shows Ms Nosy's husband being thoughtless. He gets drunk with friends on their honeymoon. And also lets it slip that Gwang-ok is his first love. At present, Ms Nosy reveals that she was insecure and took it out on her. Gwang-ok comforts her as she apologises. Back to our lead couple, Geum-ju is tasked with supervising a car crash case. Coincidentally, the van belongs to the nursing home and Ui-joon tells her about her father allegedly being seen there. The mood lightens up when she finds his gift from all those years ago. He wants to gift her something better but she wears the necklace. She arrives home and feels guilty for being happy while Hyeon-ju is sad. Hyeon-ju reveals that she wants to fix things with Seon-hwa. The sisters cheer each other up but Hyeon-ju ghosts Seon-wook as he tries to call her. Upset, Seon-wook wants to get drunk again. Trying to deter him, Young-woong lets it slip that drunk him ruined Seon-hwa and Hyeon-ju's friendship. Outside, Instructor Kim spots Seon-hwa bringing hangover medicines for Seon-wook. She is wearing an old jacket and Kim berates her for not taking care of herself. Seon-wook overhears and feels bad. Geum-ju visits the nursing home to resolve the car crash and leaves before Ui-joon can pick her up. But he ends up running into Caretaker Oh and is shocked since she had told him she had retired. She claims it is temporary and a call cuts short their meeting. As for Geum-ju, she spots Nurse Baek at the bus terminal. She tries to surprise her but Baek claims she is in Seoul. Geum-ju is confused as Baek's bus heads to Myeongju, the nursing home's location. Meanwhile, Ms Nosy treats the town to celebrate Gwang-ok's recovery. Her husband, Ki-beom, is rude and she is grateful as Gwang-ok puts him in his place. Seon-hwa is missing and her mother-in-law jokes how it is strange since she is practically family to the Hans. Seon-wook and Hyeon-ju feel guilty. As they are wrapping up, Seon-wook apologises and promises to back off. However, he hopes Hyeon-ju can understand Seon-hwa and forgive her as she has no one else. The Nurse Baek mystery continues as Ui-joon had seen Baek call Caretaker Oh. But he gives her the benefit of the doubt. Geum-ju Googles all the clubs that Baek is a part of but they have all shut down. She heads to the hospital for medicines and overhears the nurses gossip how Baek should hate Ui-joon. She runs into his mentor who reveals that Baek was only close to Nurse Jeong and Ui-joon. Baek felt guilty as she swapped shifts with Jeong the day she died. At the same time, the cops update Ui-joon that the nursing home belongs to Nurse Baek and Caretaker Oh is its director. Oh is tucking in Mr Seo when he wakes up and looks at a syringe. Ui-joon shows up at the nursing home and confronts Baek. Mr Seo pops up with a broken glass bottle. He claims that he wants to kill Ui-joon as revenge against Nurse Baek. Seo attacks but she steps in front of Ui-joon and is stabbed. Mr Seo runs off as Geum-ju calls the cops. A flashback shows Baek's conversation that triggers Seo. She reveals that Ui-joon is her son. The Second Shot at Love Episode 11 epilogue is of the class graduation. The Hans pick bouquets for Geum-ju and Ui-joon but a lady in red pays for them. It is Nurse Baek who watches Ui-joon and then leaves. The Episode Review Second Shot at Love Episode 11 tries to wrap up most of the storylines and give all the supporting characters closure. Geum-ju and Ui-joon are in a good place. Gwang-ok recovers, is treated well by her family and the mini conflict with Ms Kim aka Ms Nosy is quickly resolved. Hyeon-ju and Seon-wook understand where Seon-hwa comes from. And hopefully, she'll most likely come to terms and give Hyeon-ju and Seon-wook her blessing in the finale. In fact, this whole episode feels like a finale and could have been the perfect point to wrap up. The added mystery with Mr Seo and Nurse Baek feels unnecessary, especially since it never contributed to the main plot. The set-up has just been a few seconds over the past 10 episodes and no one would miss it if this subplot cut out. But now, the show will need to spin some convoluted plot twist to explain Nurse Baek's disappearance and why she keeps her identity a secret from her son. Second Shot at Love – K-drama Episode 10 Recap & Review

Episode 10 Episode 10 of Second Shot at Love begins with the donor's family backing out. Geum-ju works out till her liver fat levels are normal, making her an eligible donor. However, Gwang-ok would rather die than have Geum-ju be cut open. Jeong-su is conflicted and upset that he continues to be a burden. Ui-joon shows up and convinces Gwang-ok that this is the only way for mother and daughter to atone to each other. Gwang-ok finally agrees and the surgery takes place. A while later, she is in recovery while Geum-ju is back on her feet. Geum-ju also patches up with Hyeon-ju and pushes her to consider Seon-wook. Hyeon-ju refuses as she decides to take over the family B&B. Everyone from the town visits Gwang-ok at the hospital except for Ms Nosy. Turns out, Ui-joon caught Instructor Kim trying to rob Ms Nosy's restaurant. The catch is that Kim is Ms Nosy aka Mrs. Kim's son. The men discuss how sons become their fathers but are glad that Ui-joon is nothing like Mr Seo. It cuts to Ui-joon combing the news for a lead on his father. A nurse shows up and returns Mr Seo's photo that he had dropped at the home. She claims to be a retired nurse who used to look after Mr Seo. She is surprised as Ui-joon reveals he wants to help Mr Seo get healthy. We see that the meeting has been orchestrated by Baek. The nurse is still Mr Seo's caretaker and rants about Ui-joon's pointless search in front of him. In a moment of lucidity, Mr Seo realises she is talking about his son. It is Ui-joon's birthday and Geum-ju goes above and beyond to celebrate. Nurse Baek drops by as well and while leaving, she hopes Ui-joon can move on from his past and find happiness. Meanwhile, Young-woong's mother sits with Mrs Kim who still hasn't checked up on Gwang-ok. Mrs Kim sulks because of her son and waves off Gwang-ok's recovery. But she feels guilty when Gwang-ok checks in on her. But fret not, as Seon-hwa dotes on Gwang-ok and even brings her food. Gwang-ok is touched and hopes Seon-wook looks after his sister. Hyeon-ju is again in a dilemma of whether to prioritise her feelings or Seon-hwa's. Nevertheless, Seon-wook refuses to break and decides to wait till Hyeon-ju is ready to date. Young-woong is annoyed by his optimism. Back to our birthday boy, Geum-ju takes Ui-joon to the mountains which he had once mentioned. Initially, Ui-joon is stiff but he starts enjoying himself after he recalls Nurse Baek's wish for him to be happy. Once they are home, Geum-ju brings him cake and even plays a video she had recorded for him. However, that night, he has a nightmare of the dead nurse. Seon-hwa continues to help around the Han household. We learn that she sees Gwang-ok as her mother. The women worry that Hyeon-ju is all alone and Seon-hwa sets her up with a much older divorcee. Hyeon-ju agrees but only to reject him in person. Unbeknownst to her decision, a drunk Seon-wook begs Hyeon-ju not to date the divorcee. Seon-hwa shows up and confronts Hyeon-ju. A flashback shows that she found out by eavesdropping on Seon-wook's conversation with Young-woong. She feels betrayed and thinks Hyeon-ju doesn't care for her. Seon-hwa tries to drown herself and Hyeon-ju stops her, promising to stay away from Seon-wook. Meanwhile, Ui-joon meets Nurse Jeong's mother who returns the money he had given her. She declares that she can never forgive him. As for Geum-ju, she is at the hospital when she hears the nurses gossip and look down upon Ui-joon. Curious, Geum-ju looks up Nurse Jeong and sees the hateful comments directed towards Ui-joon. It's all about how a murderer's son is not fit to be a doctor. Elsewhere, Mr Seo has recovered all his memories and demands to see Ui-joon. The caretaker assures Nurse Baek that Ui-joon is in the dark. A flashback shows that Nurse Jeong dies on Ui-joon's birthday. At the funeral, Mrs. Jeong is furious to see Ui-joon. Nurse Baek is close to Jeong and takes her away while glaring daggers at Ui-joon. At present, he is wallowing in self-pity when Geum-ju finds him at Jeong's columbarium. She insists that the nurse's death is not his fault and he cries. In the Second Shot at Love Episode 10 epilogue, Geum-ju tries to record the birthday message. But she can't stop crying while thanking him for his love and support. The Episode Review As expected, Second Shot at Love Episode 10 quickly wraps up the liver transplant subplot for the final conflict. It does seem a little hasty as we aren't even shown the immediate aftermath. Jeong-su is sidelined when this could have been the perfect moment for him to help his wife and finally get the spotlight. Geum-ju and Ui-joon's birthday celebration definitely lightened the episode and kept it cheerful and wholesome. But it seems like the writers still prefer the constant miscommunication and vague misdirects with the way they are setting up Nurse Baek's shadiness and Seon-hwa's outburst. We had hoped that the show would let go of this miscommunication trope after Ui-joon and Geum-ju's reconciliation. Instead, Seon-hwa and Baek send mixed signals, making Ui-joon and Hyeon-ju's lives miserable. With Geum-ju's alcoholism storyline wrapped up ages ago, the show struggles to hit the runtime with unnecessary plot twists and drama.
