Amid resentment against land pooling, CM Mann interacts with villagers in Ludhiana
Amid the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government's proposed land pooling policy facing massive backlash and opposition in rural areas, Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann Sunday reached Ludhiana villages to 'seeks suggestions from farmers on vital issues to create Rangla Punjab.' The chief minister's office said that 'instead of a cosy sofa, Mann interacted with villagers sitting under a tree' in Samrala and Libra of Ludhiana district, and 'sought their vital inputs regarding the carving out of Rangla Punjab and apprised them about key initiatives of his government.' 'There were no cozy sofas or the formalities of government protocol in usual meetings of the state government but there was a sense of belongingness where a Chief Minister visited the ground to open his mind with the people and get feedback from them,' said a statement. Mann said that at the time he assumed office, only 21% of canal water was being used for irrigation but today that number has risen to 63%. He said that it was 'for the first time the water of canals and rivers have reached the villages in the tail end of the state.' Mann also mentioned that his government successfully safeguarded Punjab's water resources from being diverted to other states. He informed the farmers that in order to avoid complications to them in selling their paddy harvest due to high moisture content in October, the state government has advanced the paddy cultivation season. He said that zone wise cultivation of the paddy crop has been ensured in the state along with necessary planning and arrangements. Mann said that the state was divided into zones to implement this sowing mechanism in an effective manner and the dates of paddy cultivation in a phased manner were announced soon so that farmers can take benefit from it. Mann said that he had called the Union Food Minister and urged that now the procurement of paddy must start from September 15 so that the farmers of the state can sell their in a smooth and hassle free manner. He also spoke about the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna — the first-of-its-kind scheme in the country that provides cashless medical treatment up to ₹10 lakh for every resident family in Punjab. He claimed that Punjab was the first state to offer such comprehensive healthcare coverage. The Chief Minister said that his government has revived 15947 water courses in the state due to which water has reached at the tail ends even in remotest villages. Expressing concern over big fat weddings in the state, the Chief Minister said that they are putting a huge burden on the pockets of the common farmers. Bhagwant Singh Mann, while batting for simple weddings, said that it is the need of the hour so that farmers can be pulled out of the vicious circle of debt. He quipped that the top leaders of the opposition parties are not even aware of the basic Punjabi due to which they can't read or write it well. Mann said that these leaders who had took education from high end schools were poor in speaking Punjabi due to which they can't connect with masses.

He called up the Union food minister and urged him to begin paddy procurement from Sept 15. The CM said he wants to hand over tiffins to the youth by giving them employment so that they shun syringes and the drug menace. Stating that unemployment is the root cause of social problems, he said the govt has given 55,000 youth jobs so far. Highlighting another major welfare initiative, the CM spoke about the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna — the first-of-its-kind scheme in the country that provides cashless medical treatment up to Rs 10 lakh for every resident family in Punjab. He said Punjab is the first state to offer such a comprehensive healthcare coverage, which will significantly ease the financial burden on the public while ensuring quality health services. The CM said the state govt has fulfilled almost all the guarantees promised to people, adding that even those guarantees which were not made have also been given to people. He, however, said unfortunately, water depleted in 117 out of 153 blocks, which went into the black dark zone. Mann said the previous govts "never bothered" about making any effort to save the groundwater, and the farmers at the tail ends, on this land of five rivers, never got water. The CM said after assuming charge, the AAP govt revived 15,947 water courses in the state, due to which water has reached the tail ends even in the remotest villages. Likewise, he said his govt has provided free power to households from the month of July. He said for the first time, the state govt purchased a power plant from a private firm to make the state surplus in power production.

₹10 lakh health cover to all families gets Punjab cabinet nod
The Punjab cabinet on Thursday approved the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna to provide cashless medical treatment of up to ₹10 lakh to all the residents of the state at government as well as empanelled private hospitals. Punjab chief ninister Bhagwant Mann (Sourced) A decision to this effect was taken during a meeting of the council of ministers chaired by Bhagwant Mann at the chief minister's official residence. 'With this, Punjab has become the first state to provide cashless treatment of up to ₹10 lakh,' Mann said after chairing the cabinet meeting. A spokesperson from the chief minister's office said the scheme will be rolled out on October 2. 'With this, every household in the state is entitled to comprehensive healthcare coverage. The scheme will benefit the entire population and more than 550 private hospitals have been empanelled for the scheme so far and the number will be enhanced to 1,000 in coming days,' the spokesperson said. The health cards under the scheme will be issued at Seva Kendras or Common Service Centres (CSCs). 'Additionally, citizens can register online using their Aadhaar card or Voter ID to obtain a health card,' the spokesperson said. Previously, a family could avail treatment only up to ₹5 lakh. Relief to investors Given the difficulties faced by investors, the cabinet has decided to implement the notification to collect change of land use (CLU), external development charges (EDC), licence fee (LF) and others from the projects developed under the popular act or mega project policy from June 4 this year. These charges were implemented through wide notification dated June 4, 2025, on all new real estate projects to be set up in the state and on new extensions to ongoing projects with effect from April 1, 2025. 'The state government will bear the entire cost of boarding and lodging for these women sarpanches and panches. Special trains will be arranged to facilitate their visit to the sacred site,' he said.

1 2 Chandigarh: The Punjab cabinet on Thursday approved state govt's universal health cover of Rs 10 lakh per annum for each family in the state under 'Mukh Mantri Sehat Beema Yojana'. An official said the scheme will be rolled out on Oct 2, providing significant relief to the people of Punjab. Under the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna, every family in the state will now be eligible for cashless treatment of up to Rs 10 lakh. "With this, Punjab has become the first state in India where every household is entitled to such comprehensive healthcare coverage," he said. The scheme will benefit the entire population of three crore residents, and more than 550 private hospitals have been empanelled for the scheme so far. The number will be enhanced to 1,000 in the coming days. Previously, a family could avail of treatment only up to Rs 5 lakh; this limit has now been enhanced to Rs 10 lakh. Health cards under the scheme will be issued at state govt's seva kendras or common service centres (CSCs). Additionally, citizens can register online using their Aadhaar card or voter ID to obtain a health card.
