Kuwait Flour Mills to add new food and beverage options across sales outlets
KUWAIT CITY, July 23: The Technical Committee of the Municipal Council, chaired by Engineer Munira Al-Amir, has approved a request submitted by the Kuwait Flour Mills and Bakeries Company to expand the scope of activities at its sales outlets across all bakery locations in the country. During the committee's meeting yesterday, the recommendation was made to authorize the company to operate additional food and beverage-related activities within its designated bakery sites. According to the committee's technical opinion, the following were approved under the company's request: Retail sale of all food products produced by the companyn Serving of both cold and hot beveragesn Sale of pies, pastries, and sweetsn Operation of oven-based bakeriesn Operation of tandoor-style bakeriesn In addition, the company has been granted permission to utilize designated locations for the manufacturing and storage of industrial products related to its operations. However, this is contingent upon obtaining the necessary approvals from the Ministry of Finance, the Public Authority for Industry, and other relevant regulatory bodies. The committee outlined several general conditions that the company must meet: Submission of detailed layout plans for activities, to be approved by the Urban Planning Departmentn Authorization for technical staff to adjust activity names in accordance with the Ministry of Commerce codes and the nomenclature of the Public Authority for Industryn Compliance with all contractual obligations established with the Ministry of Finance and the State Property Departmentn Cancellation of any previous decisions that may contradict the newly approved activitiesn Engineer Munira Al-Amir also confirmed that the committee approved a proposal by member Engineer Alia Al-Farsi to conduct an awareness campaign on Kuwait's Fourth Master Plan. The campaign will be carried out in coordination with relevant departments within the municipality to educate the public and stakeholders about the plan's objectives and implementation phases. Furthermore, the committee referred several transactions to the executive body of the municipality for further study and preparation of detailed reports. Kuwait's Pushes for Calorie Regulations in Restaurants and Cafes
KUWAIT CITY, Feb 19: The Technical Committee of the Municipal Council has decided to forward a letter from the Governor of the Capital, Sheikh Abdullah Salem Al-Ali, to the municipality's executive body. The letter proposes the establishment of a mechanism to require restaurants and cafes to adhere to calorie limits, with the committee requesting a detailed study on the matter. During its meeting, chaired by Munira Al-Amir, the committee also referred a "support request" to the relevant authority, seeking approval for the inclusion of pharmacies in fuel stations as part of small and medium-sized projects funded by the National Fund. Additionally, the committee approved the reorganization of a section of Plot 3 in the East area, specifically the remaining part of one of the properties. However, it postponed a decision on a proposal by Abdul Latif Al-Da'i and Sherifa Al-Shalfan regarding the study of utilizing water collection basins and rainwater drainage channels in Kuwait. Lastly, the committee was briefed on a report outlining a scientific perspective on the vision for tourism in Kuwait.

Question on ‘Metro Project' deferred at Municipal Council panel meet
KUWAIT CITY, Feb 11: The Technical Committee at the Municipal Council, led by Munira Al-Amir, convened Tuesday during which it deliberated on eight items in its agenda. The committee requested detailed studies from the executive body on two matters: amending the Municipal Council's decision on the Egaila Beach development project (No. 7) and adding a fast food restaurant activity to the main roads. Three requests were returned to the executive body for updates as follows: allocating land for a stray dog shelter, amending the requirements for residential complex buildings, and addressing the residential construction percentages issue in Abu Al-Hasaniya. The committee deferred the vice-chairman's question about the Metro Project, the Real Estate Union's observations on building work regulations, and a soft drink company's request to allocate sidewalk space for coolers.

Metro project, abandoned buildings on Kuwait's Municipal Council agenda
KUWAIT CITY - The Technical Committee of the Municipal Council, chaired by Munira Al-Amir, is set to hold its eighteenth meeting on Tuesday to address several important items on its agenda , reports Al-Seyassah daily. Among the key issues to be discussed is the executive body's response to a question submitted by the Vice-Chairman of the Municipal Council, Khaled Al-Mutairi, regarding the Metro Project. Additionally, the committee will review a proposed amendment to Table No. 16, which pertains to the requirements and specifications for buildings within the Shuwaikh Free Trade Zone. This amendment is part of Ministerial Resolution No. 278 of 2021, which organizes construction work in the zone and aims to introduce some proposed new activities. Another major topic on the agenda is a proposal by member Fahad Al-Abduljader concerning abandoned properties. The municipality has informed the council chairman about the formation of a committee tasked with inventorying dilapidated and near-collapsing properties, particularly those that negatively affect the general appearance of the area. The committee will also discuss the procedures for dealing with these properties, including the identification of cases and the appropriate period for restoring or removing the buildings, as outlined in technical reports. Moreover, they will evaluate the method for issuing warnings to building owners and occupants in the event of evacuation, as well as the steps to take if owners fail to comply with demolition or restoration requirements. The committee will consider various options for enforcing compliance, including issuing comprehensive or individual tenders, or contracting out machinery, equipment and labor for demolition and restoration. Additionally, the possibility of charging building owners for the costs incurred by the municipality in carrying out the work will be examined. The outcomes of this meeting are expected to have significant implications for urban development, building regulations and property management in Kuwait.
