Lakhs likely to attend BJP's Lord Murugan devotees conference in Madurai tomorrow
Madurai, June 21 (UNI) With the key assembly polls in the Tamil Nadu political horizon, the BJP, which is leading the NDA helmed by the main Opposition AIADMK, will hold a Lord Murugan devotees conference in the temple town of Madurai on Sunday, which has become now become the political hot spot for various political parties The much-anticipated Murugan Devotees' Conference, which faced some hurdles and protests and the Madurai Bench of Madras High Court giving its nod, is all set to take place at Amma Thidal, near Vandiyur Toll Plaza in Madurai, from where several political party leaders have launched their foray, with the ruling DMK recently holding its key General Council meeting after a gap of 48 years. Though Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who is scheduled to inaugurate it has cancelled it, it would now be inaugurated by AP Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan. Though the BJP has been maintaining that it was an event to spread the message of Lord Muruga and has installed replica of his six abodes with idols inside--that was visited by thousands of Muruga devotees over the last few days--party sources told UNI tonight that it was purely a devotional gathering and there was no politics in it. The conference will bring the curtains down on the about week long event. TN BJP chief and Legislature Party Leader Nainar Nagendran repeatedly stressed it that it was an occasion to highlight the message of Lord Muruga. The BJP had earlier organised Vel Yatra and also undertook padayatra to six his abodes, especially in the context of therow that emerged over Tiruparankundram hills--one of the abodes--to invoke his blessings, in what was seen as a bid to consolidate the Hindu votes in the state and defeat the ruling DMK. Organized by Hindu Munnani and supported by the BJP Tamil Nadu unit, the conference is expected to draw more than five lakh devotees from across Tamil Nadu, other parts of India, and countries like Sri Lanka, Malaysia, and Singapore. Mr Nainar Nagendran, addressing the media ahead of the event, urged devotees from all walks of life and political affiliations to participate. 'Lord Murugan belongs to all. This is not a political event. It is a spiritual conference meant to strengthen our religious and cultural heritage,' he reiterated. He also emphasised that people should not bring political flags or banners, and that the focus will be entirely on faith, devotion, and Tamil culture. The highlight of the event is the devotional exhibits replicating the six Arupadai Veedu temples of Lord Murugan. Inaugurated a week ago, it drew thousands of people to have a darshan of the six avatars of the Lord giving an opportunity to those who could not visit these abodes. Continuous chanting of Kandha Sashti Kavacham (Lord Muruga devotional song) by about five lakh devotees and special poojas are planned on the occasion. Artists and orators from across the state will participate in cultural programs that would reflect the legacy of Murugan worship in Tamil tradition. The police have made elaborate security and announced traffic diversions in Madurai anticipating a huge footfall. According to BJP sources, this conference is part of a larger cultural revival initiative aimed at protecting and promoting Tamil Hindu traditions, especially the widespread devotion to Lord Murugan, who is considered the guardian deity of the Tamil people. The organizers and BJP leaders have also clarified that religious unity and devotion are the central themes of this event, not electoral gains or political narratives. The conference will conclude with a mass prayer for peace, prosperity, and unity across Tamil Nadu and the nation. The BJP said "with divine blessings, a grand Muruga Bhakth Sammelan (conference) will be held on the auspicious day during the sacred Sri Visuvavasu (Tamil calendar) year. "This spiritual gathering will take place in Madurai, the land that has nurtured and celebrated the richness of culture and devotion for centuries", the BJP said. "Let us come together in vast numbers--like waves of a divine ocean--to seek the boundless grace of Lord Muruga and immerse ourselves in devotion", it said. UNI GV 2245

"Stalin may take pride in declaring himself non-devotee of Murugan": ANS Prasad accuses DMK of anti-hindu agenda
Madurai (Tamil Nadu) [India], June 14 (ANI): Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State Media Spokesperson ANS Prasad issued a scathing statement on Friday, accusing Chief Minister MK Stalin and the ruling DMK government of politicising religion and placing covert obstacles in the way of the upcoming World Murugan Devotees' Conference, scheduled to be held in Madurai on June 22. In a sharp attack on the state government, Prasad said, 'Chief Minister Stalin may take pride in declaring himself a non-devotee of Murugan to please the followers of E.V. Ramasamy (Periyar). But at the same time, the DMK government must stop covertly imposing obstacles on the upcoming Murugan Devotees' Conference in Madurai, which could give the public the impression that Stalin is an 'enemy of Tamil deity Murugan'.' 'Judicial Intervention Sought: CM MK Stalin and DMK Govt Directed to Cease Politicisation, Ensure Unfettered Conduct of World Murugan Devotees Conference in Madurai, Upholding Spiritual Rights & Constitutional Freedoms,' he added. Prasad alleged that CM Stalin, known for distancing himself from religious practices, had acted against Hindu sentiments to appease followers of EV Ramasamy (Periyar). He said, 'Chief Minister Stalin may take pride in declaring himself a non-devotee of Murugan to please the followers of E.V. Ramasamy (Periyar). But at the same time, the DMK government must stop covertly imposing obstacles on the upcoming Murugan Devotees' Conference in Madurai, which could give the public the impression that Stalin is an 'enemy of Tamil deity Murugan'.' He reminded the DMK that under the Indian Constitution framed by B.R. Ambedkar, a Chief Minister must serve all religions equally, regardless of personal beliefs. Prasad also pointed out that preparations for the conference were underway, with expectations of over 5 lakh devotees attending from Tamil Nadu and around the globe. According to Prasad, the DMK and its alliance partners, including Congress, VCK, CPI(M), and others, had grown increasingly nervous over the conference's expected success. 'Their nervousness indicates the grand success this event is going to be,' he said. He further added, 'The people have now realised the true nature of the 'anti-Hindu Periyarist DMK' of Chief Minister Stalin, the 'missionary-backed anti-Hindu DMK' of Deputy CM Udhayanidhi Stalin, and the 'foreign religious, Hindu-targeting DMK' of the controversial Minister Sekarbabu.' Prasad also condemned the state government for allegedly misusing temple funds to organise a parallel state-sponsored event in Palani, claiming it was done for electoral gain and to divide Hindu society. As the event drew near, Prasad claimed that groups like Makkal Adhikaram, May 17 Movement, Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam, and Dravidar Viduthalai Kazhagam, allegedly backed by the DMK, had petitioned the Director General of Police (DGP) seeking a ban on the conference. These petitions were called 'another anti-Hindu drama' by the BJP leader. 'These groups have been making derogatory remarks about the conference, the Hindu religion, and Hindu gods, inciting social unrest. Meanwhile, the police remain silent spectators,' Prasad stated. He also alleged that police had stopped volunteers from distributing invitations and intimidated Murugan devotees. Referring to the spiritual heritage of Tamil Nadu, Prasad said, 'Tamil Nadu, the land once guided by the Nayanmars and Alwars, has always been a spiritual land. Despite invasions and temple destructions in North India, Tamil Nadu is home to thousands of ancient temples that have withstood the test of time.' He raised serious concerns over a long-standing controversy surrounding Tirupparankundram Hill, the first of the six sacred abodes of Lord Murugan, claiming that certain groups were trying to rename it 'Sikandar Hill' and conduct non-vegetarian feasts and animal sacrifices near the temple. He said, 'A group led by IUML MP from Ramanathapuram, Nawaz Kani, even staged a protest by eating non-vegetarian food along the sacred path to the temple, releasing photos of their act. This enraged the entire Tamil community.' Prasad pointed out that a mass protest held on February 4, which attracted over 50,000 people despite government restrictions, had already served as a warning to the ruling coalition. He warned that any further attempts to hinder the June 22 conference would backfire politically and spiritually. 'This conference will serve to reaffirm that Tamil Nadu is a land of spirituality, and expose the DMK government's double standards, selectively targeting Hinduism under the guise of secularism.' Calling the upcoming event a festival of Hindu resurgence, he said, 'This conference, which unites Murugan devotees beyond political lines, will be a grand success and will deliver a strong blow to anti-Hindu forces. The spiritual uprising at Tirupparankundram will surely echo in the upcoming 2026 assembly elections!' The conference is expected to see the presence of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, with preparations for their participation underway. Dy CM Pawan Kalyan invited to Murugan Devotees' Conference to be held in Madurai
VIJAYAWADA: Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagendran on Thursday extended an invitation to Jana Sena Party chief and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan to attend Muruga Bhakthargal Maanadu (Murugan Devotees' Conference) scheduled to be held at Madurai on June 22. Pawan Kalyan has been invited to attend the spiritual gathering as a chief guest. Nagendran, along with a delegation of BJP leaders, met Pawan Kalyan at the JSP headquarters in Mangalagiri on Thursday to personally hand over the invitation. They described the conclave as a significant spiritual event aimed at reinforcing Sanatana Dharma, and said devotees from across Tamil Nadu, especially from the six prominent Shanmukha Kshetras will participate in it. The BJP leaders also informed that Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has also been invited as the chief guest for the conclave. BJP Tamil Nadu in-charge Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy, leaders M Chakravarthy, S Amaraprasad Reddy, and KS Radhakrishnan were part of the delegation.

DMK in panic mode after HM Shah's visit to TN: Union Minister Murugan
Chennai: Union Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs, L. Murugan, on Monday claimed that the ruling DMK government in Tamil Nadu has gone into 'panic mode' following Union Home Minister Amit Shah's recent visit to the state. In a strongly-worded statement, Murugan said, 'Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, who once mocked that no matter how many 'Shahs' come to Tamil Nadu, the DMK cannot be shaken, now appears frozen in fear.' He asserted that the people of Tamil Nadu are preparing to deliver a 'final verdict' against what he described as a corrupt and misgoverned regime in the upcoming 2026 Assembly elections. Murugan accused the DMK of rampant corruption, maladministration, and betrayal of public trust. 'From TASMAC scams estimated at over ₹35,000 crore, to blatant nepotism, the DMK regime has looted public wealth,' he alleged. He also drew a parallel with the Aam Aadmi Party government in Delhi and its alleged liquor policy scam, suggesting a pattern of misgovernance among Opposition-ruled states. Further criticising the CM Stalin-led government, Murugan blamed the administration for worsening the condition of the poor, citing rising inflation, high unemployment, deterioration in law and order, and a spike in crimes against women. 'Liquor flows unchecked across the state, drug cartels flourish, and Scheduled Tribes are being criminalised under this oppressive regime,' he said. Murugan also questioned the DMK's oft-repeated claim of promoting Tamil language and culture. 'Despite all their rhetoric, the DMK has done nothing substantial to promote higher education in Tamil — particularly in technical fields like medicine and engineering,' he added. Referring to the upcoming Murugan Devotees' Conference in Thiruparankundram, the Union Minister described it as a 'massive show of faith' and predicted a political transformation in the state. 'Just as we are witnessing victories in Odisha, Delhi, Haryana, and Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, too, will soon follow. As Amit Shah said, 'we will not rest until the DMK is voted out,'' Murugan declared.

Opposition must unite to dismantle DMK government: Nainar Nagendran
All Opposition parties in the State, including actor Vijay's party, must come together to remove the DMK government, citing deteriorating law and order, rising drug use among students, and financial burdens on citizens, said Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagendran. 'Property tax rates and electricity charges have become unbearable. All Opposition parties must unite to dislodge the DMK government,' he said while meeting with the media persons here on Wednesday. Mr. Nagendran also clarified that the BJP does not interfere in the internal affairs of any political party. Responding to allegations of BJP involvement in the recent internal rift within the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), he said, 'Not just the PMK, the BJP will not intervene in the internal matters of any party.' On the status of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Tamil Nadu, he said both O. Panneerselvam and T.T.V. Dhinakaran are already part of the alliance. 'I believe all NDA constituents will work together with former Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami, who is also part of the alliance,' he said. On the ongoing sexual harassment case involving a student of Anna University, Mr. Nagendran said, 'The public is still asking, 'Who is that sir?' The police have not conducted a proper investigation. While I will not comment on the court's verdict, the Chief Minister must clarify the issue and respond to public concerns.' When asked about Congress State president K. Selvaperunthagai's statement suggesting that PMK and DMDK should join the DMK-led alliance, Mr. Nagendran dismissed it as a personal opinion. 'There are still 10 months left for the elections. We will consider talks regarding PMK and DMDK joining the NDA,' he said. On actor Kamal Haasan's recent remarks about the origin of the Kannada language, Mr. Nagendran said, 'If he had spoken only about Tamil, everyone would have supported him. But linking it to other languages is unacceptable.' He also announced that around five lakh devotees are expected to attend the Murugan Devotees' Conference in Madurai on June 22. Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to visit Madurai on June 8 to meet BJP functionaries, he added.
