Malik Beasley was allegedly having ‘financial issues' as troubling details emerge after gambling probe

Malik Beasley is being sued by his former marketing agency for failing to pay back in full a $650,000 advance, according to ESPN. The lawsuit, filed by Hazan Sports Management Group in April, is seeking $2.25 million in damages from the NBA veteran, who was revealed to be under federal investigation over gambling allegations earlier this week. The company alleged that Beasley has 'financial issues' and that they had 'received little more than drips and drabs of sporadic payments and vague promises to repay the balance over time.' Advertisement In the lawsuit, Hazan Sports wrote that the firm 'elected to take a chance and make a substantial investment of time, effort, and resources in a player with known issues (including and especially financial issues)' when Beasley signed with them in November 2023, per ESPN. NBAE via Getty Images The latest legal troubles for Beasley come two days after ESPN's Shams Charania reported that the U.S. District Attorney's office was looking into the 28-year-old for gambling on NBA games and prop bets. 'At least one prominent U.S. sportsbook detected unusual heavy betting interest on Beasley's statistics' when he was with the Bucks in January 2024, the outlet's report stated. Advertisement Beasley, who is a free agent, had reportedly been in talks with the Pistons on a three-year, $42 million deal to keep him in Detroit before the gambling allegations surfaced. Steve Haney, Beasley's attorney in the gambling probe, stressed that the NBAer has still not been charged with a crime. 'An investigation is not a charge,' Haney said. 'Malik is afforded the same right of the presumption of innocence as anyone else under the U.S. Constitution. As of now, he has not been charged with anything.' AP Beasley is the third player to get in hot water recently due to gambling allegations. Last year, the Raptors' Jontay Porter was banned from the league for life after he was found to have manipulated his performance for gambling purposes. Heat guard Terry Rozier was investigated for gambling allegations earlier this year, although he was cleared of any wrongdoing earlier this week, per Charania.

Kendrick Perkins claps back at Bill Simmons over NBA draft criticism: ‘I'll address your ass'

Kendrick Perkins isn't keen on Bill Simmons' criticism of ESPN's 2025 NBA Draft coverage. The former NBAer and current analyst called out the Podfather on Thursday, one day after Simmons took issue with how the Worldwide Leader handled the first 30 picks on their airwaves. 'I don't know who anointed you the preacher or king or head honcho overseeing basketball and the way things need to be,' Perkins said in a video he posted on X. 'What have you done? What have you done, period, in the game of basketball? Have you ever played? 'It's kind of pissing me off because you feel like you're sitting on this throne. You got in your feelings.' During his self-titled podcast on Wednesday night, Simmons took several digs at the network, and at one point called Perkins out specifically for his bold take on the Raptors' playoff chances next season. 'They took Collin Murray-Boyles and Perk said they had the pieces to be a top six team in the East,' Simmons said. 'And at that point I started looking for a third ESPN channel, but there were only two covering the draft. There wasn't a third one. At least one that I could find.' The two-and-a-half minute social media clip apparently wasn't enough for Perkins, who said he will be addressing Simmons on his podcast 'Road Trippin'' on Sunday. 'Man, shut up. You didn't think before you started drinking them Heinekens,' Perkins said. 'And then you got your little peanut gallery on the podcast who just agree with you … Man, shut the hell up. The hell you done? I'm gonna get more on your a– come Sunday, believe that. I'm gonna finish doing my research on you. Enough is enough.' Kendrick Perkins took issue with Bill Simmons' criticism. Kendrick Perkins/X Perkins' comments apparently made it to Simmons' ears. I'm honored that you sat in a car for 2+ minutes to scold me on your iPhone like this, even though we are a combined age of like 92,' Simmons replied on X about an hour after Perkins' post. 'If you actually think Toronto will be top-6 in the East in anything other than 'most fun place to visit' — let's wager on it ASAP.' Bill Simmons wasn't a fan of Kendrick Perkins and ESPN's NBA Draft coverage. Bill Simmons/YouTube Simmons, who was on ESPN's NBA draft airwaves during his days with the company, has long been a critic of the network's basketball coverage.

Shaq bolts from ‘Inside the NBA' set in hilarious bathroom emergency

Shaquille O'Neal used to blow up opposing teams' defensive game plans in his playing days. Now, he's blowing up toilets. While analysing a compelling Nuggets-Clippers Game 2 matchup on TNT's 'Inside the NBA' alongside the rest of the crew, O'Neal made a hurried, flustered exit. The fear in his eyes and the peculiarity of his gait signified one thing: a Code Brown. A bathroom emergency. O'Neal jumped up from his chair and darted across the set with no regard for the show. Watch the biggest Aussie sports & the best from overseas LIVE on Kayo Sports | New to Kayo? Get your first month for just $1. Limited time offer. 'Go ahead, keep talking,' O'Neal urged the rest of the crew while he scurried off. While also questioning if the big man was all right during his abrupt exit, Ernie Johnson, Kenny Smith and Charles Barkley couldn't contain their laughter. Smith had no problem airing out the likely culprit of the near-accident. 'It's that olive oil you've been drinking,' Smith said. 'Listen, he can't hold it. After 40 [years old], you can't hold it anymore.' Smith revealed O'Neal has been drinking olive oil to 'clean his gut.' 'He read somewhere that [it's good for your gut] if you drink a shot of olive oil,' Barkley added. 'You have to do it for two weeks.' 'He's gonna miss a lot of airtime then,' Johnson jokingly responded. Smith replied, 'It's cleaning his gut all right.' The hilarious moment culminated with a full-blown replay of O'Neal bolting off from set — he returned and blamed Barkley for talking too much before the upcoming commercial break where he was planning to relieve his bowels. 'Chuck, stop talking so damn much, finish your point so we can go to break,' he said upon returning from the bathroom — while also blaming the emergency on drinking too much water. 'I'm sitting here like, 'Shut the hell up and hurry up.' Sorry about that, America.' It's the hysterical moments like these that outraged so many people when it was revealed that TNT wouldn't be renewing 'Inside the NBA' for another year. But luckily for these fans, the show will return after this season — just with a new home of ABC and ESPN. The popular crew dealt with another recent snafu when Charles Barkley asked if former NBAer Billy Ray Bates was alive, only for O'Neal to wrongly claim he was dead. Johnson then had to apologise Monday for their mistake.
