DKM Girls Retain Nagpur District Junior Basketball Title with easy 19-Point Triumph

1 2 Nagpur: Anaya Prabhune, Anandi Sonewane, Hemlata Dandekar, Meehira Dhote, and Pankhudi Bade scored in double digits as Dharampeth Krida Mandal (DKM) prevailed over Nutan Bharat Yuwak Sangh (NBYS) 64-45 to emerge as champions in the 25th Prakash Rajurkar Memorial Junior District Basketball Championship, which concluded on Sunday. With a facile 19-point title triumph at the Shankar Nagar-based home court, DKM girls once again underlined their supremacy in the district selection tournament organised under the aegis of the Nagpur District Basketball Association (NDBA). Making the most of their home conditions, Anaya fired a game-high 15 points, while Anandi and Hemlata netted 14 points each. Meehira (11) and Pankhudi (10) came up with timely contributions in DKM's victory. The quarter-wise scores in DKM's favour read 19-14, 18-16, 13-8, 14-7. As many as five DKM players scored baskets in double digits. Mrunmayee Sathe (14) and Nishita Bakre (10) played well for NBYS. Later, the prizes were distributed by NDBA's head and newly elected President of the Maharashtra State Basketball Association (MSBA), MLC Sandip Joshi. On the occasion, all the NDBA members were present. Nagpur: Pakhi Lonkar (14) and Ashlesha Dabhadkar (9) did the bulk of the scoring as Nagpur Amateur Sports Association (NASA) stunned Nutan Bharat Yuwak Sangh (NBYS) 43-35 in the 25th Prakash Rajurkar Memorial inter-club junior district basketball championship at Dharampeth Krida Mandal (DKM) Shankar Nagar court on Saturday. After both teams scored 13 points each in the first quarter, NASA took a marginal lead by winning the second period 7-6. The change of ends shifted the proceedings in NASA's favour as they outplayed NBYS 15-4 in the third quarter to stretch their advantage further to 12 points. In the last period, NBYS tried their best but fell short by eight points. For NBYS, Nishita Bakre (17) and Mrunmayee Sathe (7) played well. Earlier, Saraswati Kanya Sangh (SKS) girls made light work of hosts DKM-B 30-5, and Spartan girls edged out United Basketball Academy (UBA) 33-28. For the winners, Unnati Kadwekar and Mitali Kohale netted identical eight points. For UBA, Samija Korde (8) and Prutha Kaware (7) did well. Nagpur: Nutan Bharat Yuwak Sangh (NBYS) boys and hosts Dharampeth Krida Mandal (DKM) girls kicked off their campaign in the 25th Prakash Rajurkar Memorial inter-club Junior (U-18) district basketball championship with easy victories at the Shankar Nagar court on Sunday. The selection tournament to pick the 12-member district teams is organised under the auspices of the Nagpur district Basketball Association (NDBA). While NBYS prevailed over Phoenix 45-22, DKM girls defeated Hanuman Nagar Krida Mandal (HKM) 45-8. Nagpur: Neil Dhargawe utilized his height well to score a game-high 19 points as Dharampeth Krida Mandal (DKM) boys rallied from three points down to get the better of hosts Nutan Bharat Yuwak Sangh (NBYS) 59-53 and secure the inter-club Junior (U-18) basketball championship title at the Bajaj Nagar courts. With this six-point title triumph, the DKM teams registered a double delight after their girls' outfit clinched a facile 20-point victory over the home team earlier in the evening. The eight-day tournament was organised by NBYS under the aegis of Nagpur District Basketball Association (NDBA). In the boys' final, DKM took time to settle into their groove. After losing the first quarter 13-16, DKM not only brought parity to the game but took a marginal three-point lead at the lemon break after winning the second period 14-8. DKM boys continued their winning march by dominating the third period after the change of ends. With a 22-14 win in the third quarter, DKM boys stretched their advantage further to 11 points. Though the home team from NBYS tried many tricks to bring down the lead, they failed to handle the defensive strategy of DKM in the fourth and final quarter. NBYS won the same 15-10 but fell short as DKM recorded a thumping victory. The eight-day tournament was organised by NBYS under the aegis of Nagpur District Basketball Association (NDBA). In a lop-sided girls' summit clash, Meehira fired a game-high 22 points, Anandi (19) played a pivotal role from the paint, and lanky Pankhudi (17) remained perfect under the glass while Anaya Prabhune (10) chipped in with timely baskets. After taking a four-point (15-11) lead, DKM girls never looked back and stretched the advantage further by winning the second period with an identical 15-11 score for a handy eight-point advantage at the breather. After the change of ends, DKM continued the momentum and outplayed NBYS 19-11 and 26-22 in the third and fourth quarters respectively to register a thumping 20-point title triumph.
