
Winning start for NBYS boys, DKM girls in 25th Rajurkar memorial junior basketball meet
The selection tournament to pick the 12-member district teams is organised under the auspices of the Nagpur district Basketball Association (NDBA).
While NBYS prevailed over Phoenix 45-22, DKM girls defeated Hanuman Nagar Krida Mandal (HKM) 45-8. For NBYS, Deep Bhandarkar (16) and Hariom Solanke (12) did the bulk of the scoring, while DKM's Meehira Dhote (10) and Pranjal Urkude (8) made the most of their home court advantage.
Earlier, the tournament was inaugurated by senior NDBA members Ajit Bhave and Abhay Kaple. On the occasion, NDBA Secretary Bhavesh Kuchanwar, Working President Pranay Ghate, senior DKM members Suresh Tarwarkar, Ravindra Kulkarni, organising secretary Anup Rajurkar, Arvind Garud, Dhiraj Kadao, Harshad Bhishikar, Milind Jagtap, Akshay Maske, and Amarhjeet Bhosale were present.
Over 350 players from Nagpur will be in action during the 15-day tournament, where a total of 47 matches in the league-cum-knockout format will be played. The winner and runners-up teams will win attractive cash prizes and trophies. In addition, all the participating players will be given a memento.

With a facile 19-point title triumph at the Shankar Nagar-based home court, DKM girls once again underlined their supremacy in the district selection tournament organised under the aegis of the Nagpur District Basketball Association (NDBA). Making the most of their home conditions, Anaya fired a game-high 15 points, while Anandi and Hemlata netted 14 points each. Meehira (11) and Pankhudi (10) came up with timely contributions in DKM's victory. The quarter-wise scores in DKM's favour read 19-14, 18-16, 13-8, 14-7. As many as five DKM players scored baskets in double digits. Mrunmayee Sathe (14) and Nishita Bakre (10) played well for NBYS. Later, the prizes were distributed by NDBA's head and newly elected President of the Maharashtra State Basketball Association (MSBA), MLC Sandip Joshi. On the occasion, all the NDBA members were present. UBA girls send SNG packing to enter quarterfinals of junior dist basketball meet
Nagpur: Ridima Banode (14) and Srushti Bhagat (8) did the bulk of the scoring as United Basketball Academy (UBA) edged out Shivaji Nagar Gymkhana (SNG) 38-33 to enter the quarterfinals of the 25th Prakash Rajurkar Memorial inter-club junior district basketball championship at Dharampeth Krida Mandal (DKM) Shankar Nagar court on Monday. With this five-point defeat, the SNG girls crashed out of the U18 selection tournament organised by the Nagpur District Basketball Association (NDBA). In an exciting league round game, UBA took an early lead, but SNG fought their way back to take a four-point advantage at the breather. After the break, UBA won the third quarter by four points to bring parity. In the last period, UBA defended well and defeated SNG 10-5 to register an emphatic five-point victory.
