In NCIS: Origins Season 2, Will Gibbs Go From ‘Probie' to Assertive Agent? EP Previews ‘Honest' Evolution Ahead
How long does it take for a probie to start blossoming into a truly special NIS agent? That is the question I and probably other NCIS: Origins viewers have, heading into Season 2 of the prequel spinoff (now airing Tuesdays at 9, this fall!). (TVLine readers gave Season 1 an average grade of 'A.') Working under Mike Franks (Kyle Schmid) and Lala Dominguez (Mariel Molino), alongside 'Randy' Randolf (Caleb Foote) and Vera Strickland (Diany Rodriguez), and with support from 'HSIC' Mary Jo Hayes (Tyla Abercrumbie), Gibbs kept a (very) low profile to start, and only recently started to more loudly voice his opinions. In fact, it was what Gibbs was up to outside of the team's Quonset hut that drew more attention, especially when his role in drug lord Pedro Hernandez's murder was confirmed for Franks and others. There's no hard and fast rule for when a 'probie' can shrug off that dismissive designation — it's arguably around a year, Google tells me? — but while Gibbs is, yes, the 'new guy' on the team, it only gets more and more disheartening to see him in so supportive a capacity, and never steering any investigations (outside of the whole Bugs/second sniper mystery that bookended Season 1). Gibbs will one day run the D.C. office, very effectively and for a long while, so I hope to see sparks of that leadership potential 'flicker' more and more occasionally in NCIS: Origins Season 2. That is why I asked co-showrunners David J. North and Gina Lucita Monreal if Gibbs will in fact 'be a bit more active, speak up more, and have a say in investigations' during the show's sophomore run. 'We're inching our way there, definitely, in a way that we think is honest for the character,' North told me. 'I mean, just take the fact that in Season 1, we know Gibbs' gut was churning a little bit about Bugs and thinking, 'Maybe there's more to this story?'' North reminded. 'But Gibbs didn't go down that path, he didn't gnaw at Franks and say, 'Hey, my gut…' — and he learned in the end he was right. Carrie Preston Teases Her ‘Elsbeth' Guest Star Wish List: 'Pretty Much Everybody On Broadway'
After reuniting with some of Elsbeth's biggest guests for a star-studded musical Season 2 finale, Carrie Preston is ready to apprehend more of the Great White Way. While attending last weekend's 78th Tony Awards, the Emmy-winning actress teased who from Broadway she'd like to work with on an upcoming season of the CBS procedural comedy drama. The interview came shortly before Escola made history as the first openly non-binary Tony Winner, taking home Lead Actor in a Play for their hilarious take on Mary Todd Lincoln in Oh, Mary!, which they also wrote. Elsebeth's Season 2 finale 'Ramen Holiday' brought back guest stars Stephen Moyer, Retta, Gina Gershon, Elizabeth Lail, Arian Moayed, André De Shields, Alyssa Milano, Mary-Louise Parker and Ethan Slater for the musical episode. 'We were trying to get maybe four of these guest stars, but we got eight,' Preston previously told Deadline. 'They wanted to come back and play with us, which was such an honor. It just meant the world to me that they wanted to be a part of it, and they were all so game.' Executive producer Jonathan Tolins told Deadline of the episode's Chicago tribute, 'The two hardest parts were the scheduling and waiting to be granted the rights to use the 'Cell Block Tango'. We prepared as if they were going to say yes, and fortunately, in the end, they did, because we went a long way on a limb getting ready for it, and getting the number together.' Who Should Watson Save: Adams or Stephens? Heading Into Finale, We Make the Cast Choose
Moriarty's diabolical intervention in Watson's lab claimed two victims by the end of Episode 12 — the last installment of the CBS drama before its Season 1 finale this Sunday (9/8c). As the hour came to a close, twin brothers/researchers Stephens and Adams Croft fell into comas resulting from some virus-related tomfoolery orchestrated by Watson's nemesis. And then, adding insult to illness, Moriarty's meddling also meant that there wasn't enough matter with which to create enough experimental serum for both brothers (thanks, Ingrid!). So by episode's end, Watson wrestled with the notion that his medicine would only be able to bring one Croft back from the brink. NCIS: Origins Stars Pitch a Ghosts Crossover for Dead (?) Lala — WATCH

Whatever the fate of Special Agent Lala Dominguez, NCIS: Origins star Mariel Molino is determined to stay in the CBS family. As NCIS: Origins' freshman run drew to a close on April 28, Lala was on her way to find 'probie' Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Austin Stowell) at the family home he is readying to finally sell — to deliver the news that she convince MP investigator to not arrest him for the murder of cartel boss Pedro Hernandez — when a small girl darted out into the road. Lala steered to miss the child, and flipped her Jeep in the process. Lala was last seen dangling upside down in the driver's seat, bleeding profusely. It's easy to assume that Lala died on the spot (and I've said a lot on why that'd be the very best version of the powerful and heartbreaking finale), but Origins showrunners David J. North and Gina Lucita Monreal are not confirming the character's fate, yet. Now that Lala's mortality has been called into question, TVLine checked in with Molino again, at Wednesday night's CBS Fest '25 event celebrating the network's recently revealed 2025-26 schedule. 'Oh, man…. I hope she comes back. I hope that she's alive,' Molino said, standing with co-stars Stowell and Kyle Schmid. 'But who knows. '[The] NCIS [franchise] has taken big swings before with characters and their futures, so it's tough to say, the actress added. 'Turn on those candles and pray, please!' Schmid noted that Molino has another gig lined up — she'll appear in Season 2 of Max's Vgly, due out this fall — while Stowell said that, worst case for Lala, 'the back-up plan is to move her over to Ghosts,' which of course also airs on CBS. 'Yeah, yeah, yeah, I'll be a ghost on Ghosts. I can always be on Ghosts,' Molino nodded. That, or, 'Lala's ghost gets a spinoff,' she quipped. Want scoop on , or for any other TV show?
