Relief for 3.5 lakh contractors in State as Centre releases ₹180 crore NREGA dues
In a major relief to nearly 3.5 lakh small-scale contracts in Andhra Pradesh, the Central Government has released ₹180 crore towards pending bills under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) for works executed between 2014 and 2019. Union Minister of State for Rural Development Dr. Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar announced release of the amount on Thursday, stating that the dues had been withheld for years due to alleged political vendetta by the previous State government. 'Despite completion of works, the earlier government froze payments, even modifying software systems to block contractor bills. No payments were made for six years,' he said. The current NDA-led coalition government coordinated with the central and State Rural Development departments, revived the old software, and successfully reopened over 3.5 lakh out of 4.3 lakh work records. Additionally, State matching funds have also been allocated, and officials have been instructed to ensure all outstanding dues are paid within 30 days.

YSRCP made AP a debt-ridden State, asserts Savitha
Somandepalli: Minister Savitha on Thursday launched a scathing attack on YSRCP chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, accusing him of resorting to 'corpse politics' to stay relevant. She stated that under the leadership of Chandrababu Naidu, the NDA government is progressing with development and welfare as its two eyes. Participating in the 'First Step Towards Good Governance' programme held at Somandepalli mandal headquarters, the minister visited households to gather direct feedback from citizens on the one-year performance of the NDA-led government. She personally interacted with people to understand whether they received welfare scheme benefits and instructed officials to immediately address any lapses in delivery. She expressed satisfaction at the public's positive response and stated that although there are no elections at present, the NDA leaders are stepping into the public domain to assess the government's impact, following Chandrababu Naidu's directive. 'Unlike the previous YSRCP government, which distanced itself from people after coming to power, we are engaging directly with the public,' she said. Taking a dig at Jagan, she remarked that his 'Recall Manifesto' campaign is merely an attempt to assert his political relevance. 'Corpse politics has become Jagan's habit,' she added, criticising his approach to public issues. She asserted that within just one year, the NDA has brought Andhra Pradesh back on track after the damage caused during the YSRCP regime. She said that Chandrababu's governance gives equal importance to both development and welfare and that all election promises are being fulfilled. She concluded by saying that the only thing Jagan did during his five-year rule was deceive the people. The event was attended by NDA alliance leaders and party workers from Somandepalli mandal.

Waqf law protest likely to draw large crowd today
1 2 Patna: Patna is set to witness a major mobilisation on Sunday as Muslims from across the country are expected to gather at Gandhi Maidan to voice strong opposition to the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025. The event, titled 'Waqf bachao, dastoor bachao conference', is being organised by Imarat-e-Shariah, which operates in Bihar, West Bengal, Jharkhand and Odisha. The newly enacted waqf law by the NDA-led central govt is currently under legal scrutiny in the Supreme Court. Critics argue it undermines religious autonomy, infringes upon fundamental rights and violates established legal principles and Supreme Court judgments. "The aim of the conference is to raise a united and dignified voice against the recently enacted Waqf Act, 2025, which is widely seen as trampling upon the Islamic principles of waqf," said a press note issued by the organisers. Fazle Rahma Rahmani, media convener of Imarat-e-Shariah, said, "We cannot give an exact number, but the mobilisation teams have estimated a turnout of around 10 lakh. People are coming not because of prominent personalities, but to register their absolute rejection of the Act." He added that the headquarters of the Imarat-e-Shariah at Phulwarisharif, Patna, is coordinating the effort. "Maulana Ahmad Wali Faisal Rahmani is the chief organiser. Separate mobilisation teams were formed for Bihar, West Bengal, Jharkhand and Odisha," he added. Participants began arriving in Patna from Saturday morning. Arrangements have been made for their accommodation in mosques, dharmashalas and community halls across the city. Volunteers will assist with crowd movement and logistics throughout Sunday. "The conference represents a peaceful, democratic and constitutional expression of the community's collective will to demand the rollback of the draconian legislation," the organisers said, adding that the event also carries significant political messaging.

'Jija-jamai aayog': Tejashwi Yadav slams NDA's 'family politics' in Bihar; says 'relatives are being given positions'
NEW DELHI: RJD leader and on Tuesday renewed his attack on Bihar chief minister , accusing the NDA-led state government of favouring relatives of alliance leaders by awarding them key positions. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Taking a sarcastic jibe, Yadav proposed the formation of a "Jamai Aayog" (Sons-in-law Commission) and even a "Jija Aayog" (Brothers-in-law Commission) to highlight what he called rampant nepotism. "Modi keeps talking against 'family politics', but he should come and see what's happening in Bihar," RJD leader Yadav told reporters. "We had earlier asked for a Special Arrangement Commission. There should be Jamai Aayog, but now, there should also be a Jija Aayog too. So many relatives are being given positions. Officers are helping their relatives adjust to the system. The Prime Minister ignores this." Yadav claimed that the state government is in disarray, with leaders using their connections to appoint relatives, regardless of merit. "Everything is being done based on connections - daughter from one quota, son-in-law from another. A 'Brothers-in-law Commission' should be formed quickly. The chief minister is not in control. And people in his party are happy about this and doing whatever they want. They are looting Bihar," he alleged. He also questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi's silence on the issue during his visits to Bihar. "Whenever PM Modi visits Bihar, he only criticises us. But he never questions what's happening in his own alliance. There is an RSS quota. Can the chief minister tell us how many ministers are from the RSS? In Bihar, people who lost elections are still made ministers. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Some even got the post after their term ended. These same people now lecture us. " RJD leader further commented on receiving a civilian award from Cyprus this week. "He is the Prime Minister of India. Maybe that's why he is getting the honour. But let's talk about the real situation in the country - there's unemployment, poverty, and rising prices. The government hasn't done much except distribute free rations. But what about people's homes, jobs, education, and healthcare?"

The process will be done in two phases, with the snow-bound and non-synchronous areas, including Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, set for October 2026 and the rest of the country in told India Today TV that the census will be over in two years, and the delimitation will follow based on the fresh population data. The 33 per cent quota implementation will be in accordance with the 'Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam' or the Women's Reservation Bill, 2023, which was passed in September 2023. The bill, which aims to reserve one-third of seats both in Lok Sabha and state assemblies for women, can only be rolled out using the new figures from the first census conducted soon after its introduced way back in 1996 when Deve Gowda was India's Prime Minister, the bill witnessed multiple changes of governments and debates before being passed 27 years to the bill, the system of reserving seats for women would cease to exist 15 years after it comes into the census and the delimitation exercise have been points of contention between the NDA-led Centre and the Opposition. The 15th and last census in India was conducted in 2011, and was rescheduled from 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Meanwhile, delimitation has been held in India four times - 1952, 1963, 1973 and a layperson's term, delimitation is the process of updating the number and boundaries of parliamentary and assembly constituencies using the latest population figures. The process ensures that each MP or MLA represents roughly the same number of people, and that the population is fairly states have not been happy about the delimitation exercise, with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK boss MK Stalin raising concerns on several occasions. Experts said that if the Lok Sabha seats stay the same, northern and central states such as Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Bihar could benefit - possibly 31 seats more - while their southern counterparts such as Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala may lose around 26 seats. The northern states' faster population growth over the past few years is a vital reason behind this difference. IN THIS STORY#Tamil Nadu#Narendra Modi#Delimitation#Women's Reservation Bill
