Fitness initiative transforms police officers' health through structured wellness programme

The Hubballi-Dharwad Police Commissionerate implemented this fitness regime in accordance with govt directives, witnessing substantial improvements amongst participating officers. Following DGP MA Saleem's directive addressing increasing cardiovascular incidents, Commissioner of Police N Shashikumar pioneered the state's first comprehensive health initiative. The programme encompasses daily physical activities, dietary modifications, and lifestyle adjustments. Officers now adhere to a structured routine including early morning walks, yoga sessions, and targeted exercises. The programme, running from June 9 to July 8, required participation from officers exceeding the specified weight thresholds. Individual stations identified three to seven personnel requiring intervention, according to departmental sources. The Hubballi-Dharwad police commissionerate identified 98 officers exceeding BIM fitness standards, with the first group of 65 officers nearing programme completion, expressing satisfaction with their enhanced fitness levels. Mohan Kulkarni, 55, ASI Traffic, Dharwad, noted the programme's positive impact on force morale, with participants reporting enhanced vitality and movement. Fitness instructors developed individualised exercise regimens considering officers' physical conditions, while incorporating nutritional education and stress management sessions. Daily activities commence at 6am with a mandatory 10,000-step walk, followed by sprouts and breakfast at 8 am. Medical consultations continue until 1pm, with afternoon activities resuming at 3.30pm. Yoga sessions are held from 5pm to 6pm. The programme offers varied meal options including traditional rice, navanakki rice, and jowar, complemented by salads, jowar and ragi rottis, buttermilk soup, and green tea, according to a participating ASI. Yallapp Kashappanavar, DCP, CAR, said the the initial group's training will conclude soon, with subsequent batches commencing after consultation with the police commissioner. Despite challenges faced by officers above 55 years, the programme has demonstrated positive outcomes in weight reduction, he added. "The New CAR ground at Gokul Road has been equipped with accommodation facilities for trainees. Physical instructors in the department have been deployed to guide them in fitness and weight management programmes. Medical professionals from different hospitals are providing health education to the police personnel, while experienced yoga instructors are conducting specialised yoga sessions for them," said police commissioner N Shashi Kumar.

5 WB women rescued from prostitution
Hubballi: Police rescued five women from a hotel where prostitution was allegedly taking place on Friday. Police commissioner N Shashikumar stated that a raid was conducted at the hotel in Hosur, acting on a tip-off given by Mysuru-based Odanadi Seva Samsthe. "Five women from West Bengal were rescued, and five persons, including the hotel manager, staff, and a customer, were detained," he added. Odanadi founder Stanley mentioned that prostitution was occurring on the second floor of the hotel. "They reserved the ground floor and first floor for customers. Thousands of condoms distributed by the Tamil Nadu health department were seen on the second floor. They also built a tunnel in the toilet, to hide or escape from there. A customer was hiding there during our raid," he said. He added that he informed Nagalaxmi Choudhari, chairman of the Karnataka State Women Rights Commission, about the incident.

Hubballi: The Times Mobility Utsav, organised by The Times of India at Hotel Naveen, Hubballi, is attracting automobile enthusiasts. Inaugurating the two-day Utsav, Basavaraj Horatti, chairman of the Karnataka legislative council, slipped into nostalgia, sharing that he has retained his three cars since 1983. "My first purchase was an Ambassador, which I still use often. Since it is my lucky car, I use it during my election campaigns. Later, I bought an Innova in 2007 and a Qualis in 2014. Though I own advanced cars now, my sentiments do not allow me to part with the older ones," he shared. He visited all the stalls and launched Tata's all new Altroz car for the first time in North Karnataka. He attentively listened to the new technologies and facilities installed in the new cars. Being a farmer, he appreciated cars like Isuzu's S-Cab Z, which is meant for tough jobs, and Toyota's Hilux. Police commissioner N Shashi kumar observed the safety measures in modern cars and said customers should understand the safety features installed in their vehicles. "Nowadays, almost all automobile companies are giving priority to safety and security. Such expos are useful to sensitise customers on the same," he commented. 28 cases filed for inciting fear on social media
Hubballi: Police commissioner N Shashikumar has said they have been keeping a watch on rowdy sheeters who are using social media for their many as 28 separate cases were registered at 15 police stations across twin cities, targeting 58 rowdy sheeters and taking down 700 social media accounts, Shashikumar said here on Wednesday. Cases were registered for inciting fear on Instagram, Facebook and YouTube. In some of these cases, they will take action to arrest the individuals took action against 1,700 rowdies by classifying them as A, B and C. They already wrote bonds against 1,158 people as a precautionary measure and issued deportation orders against 52 people, he said they took action against those using sword and other weapons for personal glory. These individuals are trying to lure young people into the world of crime and create an atmosphere of fear by gathering supporters in protests and religious programmes. They are attempting to instil fear among students on school and college said child protection is not only the responsibility of departments but everyone's responsibility. Recently, a girl died due to sexual assault. In April 2023, in a case where a 26-year-old man raped a 7-year-old child, the Pocso court sentenced him to 5 years in prison and imposed a fine of Rs 15,000. A cash reward of Rs 10,000 was given to the investigating officer and staff of Kasabapet police station in connection with the case.
