Zakho and Al-Hudood secure key wins in Iraqi Stars League Round 35
Baghdad ( – Four impactful matches took place in Round 35 of the Iraqi Stars League on Saturday (June 14, 2025), with significant results affecting the race for third place and the battle against relegation. Zakho SC strengthened their hold on third position, climbing to 66 points after a 2-1 comeback victory at home against Naft Al-Basra. After going down early, goals from Nasser Mohammedou (pen. 30′) and Youssef Al-Alousi (72′) secured the win. In a crucial result at the bottom of the table, last-placed Al-Hudood earned a vital 2-1 away win over Al-Kahrabaa, with goals from Dennis Antwi (pen. 42′) and Athir Salih (77′). Elsewhere, Newroz SC won the Kurdistan derby 1-0 away at Erbil, thanks to a Marwan Hussein goal just before halftime in a match briefly halted by a power outage. Baghdad ( – The Iraqi Stars League's 28th round begins today, Wednesday, and over the next four days, games will be played throughout Baghdad and other governorates. At both ends of the table, important points are still up for grabs in the title chase. In an attempt to catch up, fifth-place Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya travels to play relegation-threatened Diyala (19th) today. Second-place Al-Zawra'a (55 points) welcome Al-Karma (11th) to Baghdad, while third-place Zakho host Naft Maysan (8th) in an attempt to solidify their position. Erbil (12th) will play Al-Naft (9th) on Wednesday as well. League leaders Al-Shorta (56 points) will travel to play Al-Mina'a (16th) on Thursday. Al-Najaf (15th) faces Karbala (18th) in a match to move up the league standings, while fourth-place Al-Talaba plays Al-Kahrabaa (13th) in an attempt to hold onto their position.
