Erne Wrestling Club members pick up two international medals
Erne Wrestling Club continues to grow since moving into the Lower Celtic Park Community Centre last Autumn.
It caters for children from age seven years through to adults and there is coaching for beginners right through to recognised international athletes.
Last weekend, the club had tremendous success with two athletes competing internationally at the prestigious United World Wrestling (UWW) Jovenes Promesas 2025 in La Nucia in Spain.
This competition brought together more than 270 athletes from 17 countries and as a UWW event athletes can only compete if selected by their country.
The Club's newest international selection at this tournament was Tomás Gormley, representing Ireland for the first time. He competed in the U20 category and secured the bronze medal at this, his first UWW event.
Sixteen year old Naoise McManus continues her impressive progress with the Great Britain squad taking the bronze medal at the same event, competing in the largest category of the competition (U7 53kg).
Naoise has also now been selected to represent Great Britain at the UWW U17 European Beach Wrestling Championships to be held in Croatia at the end of May.
It's a great achievement for any club to have one athlete at an international level and at present Erne Wrestling has three!
Darragh Love (U23) and Naoise (U17) on the Great Britain squad and Tomás (U20) representing Ireland.
Their commitment and dedication has been evident to date and no doubt they will continue to impress. These three also take the time to help newer athletes and those teammates striving to follow their path.
Having athletes of this calibre gives the club tremendous credibility throughout GB and Ireland and we have an immense pride in the cross-community spirit that the club embodies.
It is a true reflection of the close knit inclusive society we have in Enniskillen.
