Haylie Duff, known for her roles in Napoleon Dynamite and 7th Heaven, is opening up about her decades-long acting career. During a June 2025 interview with TV Insider, Duff shared that legendary actress Patty Duke, who died in 2016, was her mentor. She noted that they co-starred together in the 2009 Hallmark Family film, Love Finds a Home. "I had some good fortune of working with some really special actresses throughout the years and made impacts on me. Patty Duke comes to mind. I really loved spending time with her on set. She gave me wonderful advice, spent a lot of time with me when we worked together," said Duff during the interview. Duff also said Anjelica Huston was a source of support when they filmed the 2006 movie Material Girls. "Anjelica Huston was another who made a big impact on me. She went out of her way to encourage me and left a lasting impact on me," said Duff. While speaking to TV Insider, Duff shared that her children Ryan, 10, and Lucy, 7, have watched Napoleon Dynamite, which premiered in 2004. She explained that her daughter's friend mentioned her character Summer Wheatly. "She was like, 'Who is Summer Wheatly?' He was like, 'How do you not know your mom is Summer Wheatly?' She came home and was mad at me about it. She was like, 'Mom, who is that?' I explained it. She knows I'm and actor and am in this business, but she was 6 at the time. I didn't feel I need to explain that," said Duff during the June 2025 interview. Duff spoke fondly about her time filming Napoleon Dynamite during a 2019 TooFab interview. "I have so many great memories from that whole experience. That was a wonderful cast," said Duff to the publication. She said she particularly enjoyed a day wherein she and her castmates spent time at a lake. "We all spent the day swimming and boating and it was a great bonding experience for us," said Duff during the interview. Former child star Tina Majorino spotted on rare outing in LA
An iconic child star who shared the screen with Kevin Costner in 1995's flop Waterworld was spotted out on a rare outing in Los Angeles this week. Tina Majorino, now 40, looked casual in a black vest top and shorts as she strolled around Thousand Oaks - 30 years after her turn as Enola in the post-apocalyptic blockbuster. Majorino, who is also known for her roles in Napoleon Dynamite and Grey's Anatomy completed her ensemble with a baseball cap and sneakers. As well as Waterworld, Majorino starred in a string of films in the 1990s including Andre, When A Man Loves A Woman, and Corrina, Corrina. While the 1995 film was a box office disappointment, the actress previously said she has nothing but fond memories of working with Costner. She said: 'No matter how crazy everything off the set became, he showed up to work every day just wanting to do the best work possible.' Majorino continued: 'He loves doing this just for the sake of doing it, and every time [that I've collaborated with someone] who has had that mentality, it's always been a fulfilling experience.' She portrayed Deb in 2004 cult classic Napoleon Dynamite alongside Jon Heder as the titular character and Efren Ramirez as Pedro Sanchez - which marked her return to acting after a five year hiatus. In a 2014 interview the former child star said: 'I read Napoleon Dynamite and instantly I was like, 'I don't even care if I get it, I have to audition for this movie! 'I think I was 17 – it was the first script that I read coming out of my sabbatical – and I was like, "this is hilarious."' She added: 'That film was a huge lesson for me in following my gut. It was pure magic and 100% reignited my love of filmmaking.' Napoleon Dynamite tells the story of an awkward and alienated teenager who helps his new friend Pedro win the class presidency at their high school in Preston, Idaho. The film, co-written by Jared and his wife Jerusha, was shot in just 22 days on a production budget of $400,000, before grossing over $46million worldwide and becoming a cult classic. Napoleon Dynamite premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2004 and was bought by Fox Searchlight Pictures, which joined forces with MTV and Paramount Pictures to distribute the film. The film enjoyed a limited release that June, before its widespread release in August. Majorino's television credits include Grey's Anatomy, Scorpion, True Blood, Big Love, Bones, Veronica Mars, and Legends.

Napoleon Dynamite Live! 20th Anniversary Celebration coming to Evansville
HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – According to Victory Theatre, the indie classic 'Napoleon Dynamite' was released 20 years ago, and an event commemorating this anniversary is coming to Evansville. Event organizers say this unique evening includes a full screening of 'Napoleon Dynamite' followed by an interactive experience, with cast members Jon Heder, Jon Gries and Efren Ramirez. Event organizers say the live show will be a blend of Q and A, comedy improv, game show and party, with 'plenty' of audience participation. Several events planned for Pride Month in Evansville Tickets may be purchased at Ford Center Ticket Office or here.
