Watch: President Droupadi Murmu Joins Yoga Day Celebrations In Uttarakhand
Dehradun: President Droupadi Murmu took part in the 11th International Yoga Day celebrations at Uttarakhand's Dehradun on Saturday, along with Governor Gurmeet Singh. The program organised at Police Lines, Dehradun is part of the nationwide celebration of Yoga on International Yoga Day with the theme 'Yoga For One Earth, For One Health.' The 11th annual Yoga day celebrations have seen wide participation from states across the country. Visuals from Police lines showed President Murmu doing asanas with the governor and other officials. On the same day she also released a postage stamp on Raj Bhavan, Nainital, on the completion of its 125 years. Earlier today, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the nationwide Yoga day celebrations from Vishakapatnam, he urged the international community to embrace "inner peace" as a "global policy' and make yoga a collective global responsibility. "I would like to take this opportunity to urge the global community on this important occasion to let this International Yoga Day mark the beginning of Yoga for Humanity. Let this be the day when inner peace becomes a global policy, where yoga is embraced not just as a personal practice, but as a powerful tool for global partnership and unity. Let every country and every society make yoga a shared responsibility, a common contribution toward collective well-being," the Prime Minister said. The event was held along the scenic Visakhapatnam coastline, with Indian Navy ships stationed near the shore, adding to the grandeur of the celebration. PM Modi was joined by lakhs of yoga enthusiasts, residents, and dignitaries from Andhra Pradesh. Calling for a global mass movement through yoga, PM Modi said, "Come, let us all together make Yoga a mass movement. A movement that takes the world towards peace, health and harmony. Where every person starts the day with yoga and finds balance in life. Where every society is connected to yoga and free from stress. Where yoga becomes the medium to bind humanity together. And where Yoga For One Earth, One Health becomes a global resolution." Multiple other leaders, including Chief Ministers of various states, multiple Union Ministers also participated in the Yoga day programs across the country.

‘Couldn't hold back tears, they sang so beautifully': President Droupadi Murmu
President Droupadi Murmu, who turned 67 on Friday, was moved to tears when a group of visually impaired children sang a song to wish her. 'I could not hold back my tears. They were singing so beautifully. They were singing from their heart,' said Murmu at the National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Visual Disabilities at Dehradun. The President said the progress of a country or society can be judged by the way the people treat persons with disabilities in that society. 'India's history is full of inspiring incidents of sensitivity and inclusiveness,' said the President. She said through the Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan, which emphasises developing an accessible physical environment, transport, information and communication ecosystem, the government is striving for empowerment and equal participation of 'divyangjan (persons with disabilities)'. The President, who is on a three-day visit to Uttarakhand beginning Thursday, inaugurated Rashtrapati Tapovan and Rashtrapati Niketan in Dehradun. She also laid the foundation of Rashtrapati Udyan at Rashtrapati Niketan. Rashtrapati Tapovan, situated on Rajpur Road in Dehradun, is a 19-acre Presidential Estate nestled in the Himalayan foothills, developed with an emphasis on spiritual retreat and ecological preservation. According to the communication from the President's Secretariat, Tapovan is a dense forest patch rich and hosts 117 plant species, 52 butterfly species, 41 bird species and seven wild mammals, including some protected species. The area features natural bamboo groves and undisturbed woodland ecosystems. – PTI inputs

Prez on 3-day Doon visit to unveil projects at Rashtrapati Niketan
Dehradun: President Droupadi Murmu arrived in Dehradun Thursday evening and inaugurated an amphitheatre at Rashtrapati Niketan, the Presidential Retreat located on Rajpur Road. She also laid the foundation stones for new staff quarters, stables and barracks at the estate. The President is on a three-day visit to the city. On Friday, she will inaugurate the Rashtrapati Niketan for public visits and unveil visitor amenities, including a facilitation centre, cafeteria and souvenir shop. She will inaugurate Rashtrapati Tapovan and lay the foundation stone for Rashtrapati Udyan, a planned 132-acre ecological park. Portions of Rashtrapati Niketan and Tapovan will be opened for public viewing starting June 24. The 186-year-old, 21-acre Rashtrapati Niketan will become the latest Presidential Estate to open to the public under the ongoing initiative to enhance citizen engagement with the presidency and preserve the heritage of Rashtrapati Bhavan. The 25-minute journey from Behl Chowk to Malsi took over an hour. We were stuck at Dilaram Chowk for nearly 30 minutes," said one commuter. Residents said that there were unannounced road closures as well. "Subhash Road was closed near Crossroad Mall, even though the advisory didn't mention it. The alternate route via Supply Road was also heavily jammed. There needs to be a separate VIP route for these events," the commuter added. Besides Rajpur Road, other key routes such as EC Road, Canal Road and Subhash Road saw prolonged congestion, worsened by evening rain. Superintendent of police (traffic) Lokjeet Singh said, "A D-3 protocol is in place for VVIP movements, which requires certain diversions to be implemented three hours in advance." Officials said that traffic flow resumed later in the evening, aided by additional police deployment to streamline flow.
