Over Rs 11 lakh crore in loans disbursed to women self-help groups by banks: Minister
New Delhi: Loans worth over Rs 11 lakh crore have been disbursed to women self-help groups (SHGs) through formal financial institutions under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana–National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM), Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said on Wednesday. This milestone reflects the central government's strong commitment under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi towards inclusive rural development, financial empowerment of women, and fostering self-reliance at the village level, he added. Under the Ministry of Rural Development's DAY-NRLM, rural poor women across the country are strengthening their livelihoods through robust community institutions. Through SHGs, they are being provided collateral-free loans, interest subsidies, and other financial support, enabling them to start their own businesses and increase their incomes. A repayment rate of over 98 per cent clearly demonstrates the initiative's credibility, discipline, and efficient management, said Chouhan. Appreciating the banking community's support, Chouhan said that banking partners have played a remarkable role in turning the dreams of millions of rural women into reality. The tireless efforts of 'Bank Sakhis' have facilitated SHG-bank linkage and ensured timely loan repayment. He further said that the main contribution of this banking partnership is the provision of easy loans to SHGs under the priority sector lending, along with accessible banking services for SHG members through simplified processes. The initiative also promotes Aadhaar and mobile seeding of bank accounts and enhances financial literacy. The repayment systems are being strengthened in the country. 'Bank Sakhis' are increasingly assisting with transactions, loan applications, and documentations, as well as creating awareness about insurance, pensions, and other financial schemes. Moreover, the Community Based Repayment Mechanism (CBRM) is being fortified to ensure timely loan recovery under this significant programme. The central government initiatives like DAY-NRLM and 'Lakhpati Didi' are transforming the economic status of millions of women in rural India, he mentioned.

Shivraj Chauhan takes stock of development schemes
Union Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan has urged district-level officials to expedite the implementation of the PM Awas Yojna and Lakhpati Didi schemes. During a visit to his parliamentary constituency, Vidisha, he held a meeting of the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) in Raisen. The meeting involved in-depth discussions on public welfare issues such as steps to check black marketing in fertilisers and crackdown on the sale of counterfeit fertilisers, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, Lakhpati Didis under the National Rural Livelihoods Mission and water infrastructure. While reviewing the work of the PM Awas Yojana (Gramin) — Awas Plus, Chouhan instructed that the scheme should be implemented in such a way that beneficiaries receive their instalments on time. He stressed on ensuring zero negligence in construction works and called for rigorous monitoring at the district level to ensure timely completion. In the fiscal year 2024-25, as many as 27,981 houses have been approved across all Gram Panchayats of the district — 4,825 are complete, and 23,156 are under progress. Chouhan reviewed the progress under the National Rural Livelihoods Mission and asked for a detailed count of Lakhpati Didis. He weighed on the fact that more and more women should be empowered to become Lakhpati Didis through a concrete action plan. It has been said that the district currently has 43,613 Lakhpati Didis. The Union Minister obtained scheme-wise information during the review of the agriculture department's work in the district. He directed that strictest action be taken against people who are engaged in black marketing or selling counterfeit fertilisers, as it amounts to a grave injustice against farmers. The minister also inquired about the procurement of 'moong' (green gram) and instructed officials to inspect procurement centres. During a review of roads under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, the Minister directed that every village be connected to main roads, ensuring seamless rural connectivity and improved access to services. It was reported that under the 2024-25 plan, 30 roads covering 276.236 km have been sanctioned, of which 28 roads have been completed. Similarly, of 13 sanctioned bridges, nine have been completed. The meeting also reviewed the work of the National Highways Authority of India. The Minister directed agriculture officers to visit fields regularly and advise farmers about appropriate pesticides in case of crop diseases. He emphasised using Krishi Vigyan Kendras to disseminate the latest agricultural techniques and also instructed on getting on with early preparations for the rabi (winter) crops. Upon being informed that Basmati rice from the district had been rejected in international markets, he told officials to educate farmers against using internationally banned pesticides. Chouhan asked for details about reservoirs and pond water storage conditions during the review of the Water Resources Department. He reiterated that under the Jal Jeevan Mission, every household must have tap water access and that all incomplete projects must be finished at the earliest. He also reviewed the Energy Department's progress, particularly under-construction electricity substations, and instructed that they too be completed without any further delay.

Kudumbashree creates centralised technology bank to give innovative touch to its farm livelihood enterprises
To usher in a new era of technology-driven women entrepreneurship, the Kudumbashree Mission has launched the Kudumbashree Technology Advancement Programme (KTAP) where by a centralised technology bank has been created by purchasing 184 technologies at an estimated ₹90 lakh. Memorandums of Understanding have been signed with seven reputed research and technology institutes from which the technologies related to farming and food processing and value addition have been bought with the objective of harnessing the power of innovation and technology to strengthen Kudumbashree's farm livelihood vertical. The idea is to transform traditional farming and food processing into sustainable, competitive rural enterprises. 'The State Kudumbashree Mission will impart awareness about these technologies to district-level teams initially. In the next stage, selected members from each district, including entrepreneurs, will be given hands-on training in technologies of relevance to them at the institutes concerned. Going forward more related technologies will be added to the bank,' said S. Shanavas, State Programme Officer, Kudumbashree's Farm Livelihood vertical. The technology bank will serve as a shared repository of modern tools and solutions to empower Self-Help Groups to access, borrow, and utilise technologies to enhance productivity and product quality. These technologies will be harnessed for creating new 1,500 product groups and 125 integrated farming clubs besides empowering the existing enterprises. KTAP is being backed by an initial budget of ₹1 crore under the Technical Supporting Agency (TSA) component of National Rural Livelihoods Mission to revolutionize farm livelihoods by integrating cutting-edge technology into all levels of agricultural and food-based enterprises. The impact of KTAP is expected to be three-fold. It will enable certified, high-quality value-added products that can compete beyond local boundaries. enhance income generation for women-led rural enterprises by moving them from subsistence-level livelihoods to scalable agribusiness models and build technical and managerial skills thus ensuring members are trained in the use, maintenance, and business applications of the technologies provided. Among the key objectives of the project include modernisng key areas such as agri-processing, smart farming, organic production, packaging, licensing, and branding. The technology access is likely to help product standardization, enhanced inter-district collaboration, and entry into domestic and international markets.

Montessori will be introduced in anganwadis: Hebbalkar
Chikkamagaluru: If everything goes as planned, Montessori, nursery, and kindergarten model classes will open in anganwadi centres from this year. Minister for women and child development Laxmi Hebbalkar said govt is planning to introduce Montessori in anganwadis to provide quality education to children. After the inauguration of the conference of the 'Paanch Guarantee Schemes' at Kuvempu Kalamandira, organised by the district administration, zilla panchayat, women and child development department, National Rural Livelihoods Mission, and District Guarantee Scheme Implementation Authority, the minister mentioned that 130 anganwadi centres in the district have been identified for this initiative to mark 50 years of anganwadis in Karnataka. "Our govt exists for the development of the people. We recognise women as heads of households and have implemented the Gruha Lakshmi scheme to empower them. We ensure that govt funds are directly deposited into their accounts without any intermediaries," she said. "Govt has designed model schemes to benefit the entire state, and Chikkamagaluru district ranks first in the implementation of guarantee schemes. Three districts in the state are actively working on this, including Chikkamagaluru," she added. Conrad meets Dhankhar with women's SHG group

The group was accompanied by senior officials of the State Rural Livelihoods Society and led by chief minister Conrad K Sangma."It was a matter of great honour and encouragement as our SHG members met and interacted with our very welcoming and humble Hon'ble Vice President of India, Sh. Jagdeep Dhankhar ji at his office in New Delhi. Across the state, every SHG member has risen as a beacon of hope and strength in her community. With resilience, hard work, and a deep sense of purpose, these women have shattered barriers and redefined what's possible. From just around 5,000 SHG in 2015, the state now has nearly 52,000 active SHG women. Currently, more than 5.2 Iakh women have been covered under the SHG mission . There has also been an increase in the number of women-led Village Employment Councils (VECs) from 2022-24," the official release read."The recent launch of the Pla Tangka Cooperative Society, a women-led apex financial institution, is yet another milestone in Meghalaya's vision for financial inclusion and economic empowerment. These collective efforts are aligned with the broader goals of the State Capability Enhancement Project, which seeks to strengthen human development outcomes by enabling capable, community-rooted leadership at all levels," the statement said.
