Stage set for world to celebrate International Day of Yoga
(Image courtesy: X/@IndianEmbTokyo) New Delhi: Several countries across the globe organised Yoga sessions on Friday, marking the one-day countdown to the 11th International Day of Yoga (IDY). The Embassy of India in Nepal, in association with Lumbini Development Trust, organised a large-scale Yoga demonstration at Lumbini – the revered birthplace of Lord Buddha and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Ambassador of India to Nepal, Naveen Srivastava, highlighted that Yoga, an ancient practice with its origins in India, has grown into a global movement, particularly following the United Nations' declaration of June 21 as the International Day of Yoga in 2014. He remarked that Lumbini, widely regarded as a symbol of peace and harmony, provides a truly fitting setting to celebrate the timeless values of Yoga. The occasion was a part of a series of events being conducted by the Embassy of India to celebrate the 11th International Day of Yoga across various cities in Nepal. In Thailand, students of St. Andrews International School engaged in a yoga session highlighting the spirit of Yoga for 'One Earth, One Health'. 'Reflecting the spirit of Yoga for One Earth One Health, students of St. Andrews International School, Thailand, participated in an energizing yoga session organised by Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre, Embassy of India, Bangkok,' Indian Embassy in Bangkok posted on X. In Austria, the celebration of IDY by the Indian Embassy in Vienna in partnership with Stadt Wien was featured prominently by ORF, Austria's national broadcasting service in its morning show 'Guten Morgen Österreich'. In Saudi Arabia, students from International Indian Schools in Taif and Jubail cities participated in a Yoga session embodying harmony, wellness, and togetherness. 'In celebration of International Day of Yoga, students from International Indian Schools in Taif and Jubail cities organised an energising Yoga session. Their vibrant spirit embodied the harmony, wellness, and togetherness that Yoga brings to our lives,' the Indian Embassy in Riyadh posted on X. On the sidelines of the Mobile World Congress in Shanghai, the Consulate General of India in Shanghai organised a well-attended IDY workshop and symposium for participants. In Japan, the 11th IDY countdown was celebrated at the Osaka Expo 2025. 'Ambassador of India to Japan Sibi George and Vice Governor of Osaka Prefecture Shigeki Watanabe inaugurated the celebrations and joined the collective yoga session alongside thousands of yoga enthusiasts,' the Indian Embassy in Tokyo posted on X. Marking one day countdown to IDY, the High Commission of India in Kenya organised a special yoga session at Ulinzi Sports Complex, Nairobi, for the Foreign Affairs officials in Kenya, as part of their Annual Staff Wellness Day. Focusing on the holistic health benefits of yoga, the session received an enthusiastic response and saw participation from over 300 officials. In his 'Mann ki Baat' address on March 30, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had emphasised the importance of fitness in daily life and praised initiatives like the International Yoga Day. While sharing India's vision for a healthier world population, PM Modi mentioned the theme of IDY 2025 as 'Yoga for One Earth One Health', which ensures holistic health for the whole world. The 2025 theme highlights Yoga's role in promoting physical, mental, and environmental well-being, aligning with global calls for sustainability and unity. It builds on a decade of success since the United Nations recognised June 21 as International Day of Yoga, following India's proposal in 2014.

Indian Embassy successfully organizes inaugural edition of Indian Ambassador's Cricket Tournament
Kathmandu [Nepal], June 9 (ANI): The Embassy of India in Kathmandu successfully organised the inaugural edition of the Indian Ambassador's Cricket Tournament from May 31 to June 8 at the Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground. According to a release by the Indian Embassy, the tournament saw enthusiastic participation from six teams representing the Indian Embassy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nepal, British Embassy, Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ), Corporates, and the Indian Diaspora (ICAN) in Nepal. The opening ceremony was held on May 31 and was graced by the Ambassador of India to Nepal, the British Ambassador, and the Joint Secretary (South Asia Division), Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nepal. 'After a week of spirited and friendly competition, the tournament culminated in a thrilling final match on June 8, where the Indian Embassy team had a face-off with the ICAN team. The final was followed by a trophy distribution ceremony attended by the Ambassador of India to Nepal Naveen Srivastava, President of the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) Chatur Bahadur Chand and Joint Secretary (South Asia Division), MoFA, Nepal, Gahendra Rajbhandari, where top performers were recognized and felicitated,' the release stated. Later in the evening, a reception ceremony was organised to celebrate the tournament's success. The event was graced by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Government of Nepal, Teju Lal Chaudhary, the Ambassador, President of CAN, and esteemed members of Nepal's Women's National Cricket Team. Members of all the six participating teams also attended the event, reinforcing the spirit of camaraderie and sportsmanship. 'In a significant step to deepen India-Nepal cooperation in the field of sports, the Ambassador handed over cricket kits to three promising U-19 Nepali cricketers. On the same occasion, Embassy of India, Kathmandu also announced the launch of the 'Ambassador's Cricket Fellowship for Nepali Youth', under which two young cricketers from Nepal will be provided with opportunity to receive short term coaching at reputed coaching academies in India,' the release added. The initiative is part of India's continued commitment to fostering strong people-to-people ties and supporting youth development in Nepal through the shared love for cricket. India remains committed to the growth of cricket in Nepal. (ANI)

Nepal PM Oli assures India its territory soil won't be used against neighbours
Kathmandu): Indian Ambassador to Nepal Naveen Srivastava briefed Nepal Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Operation Sindoor on Friday. Following the briefing, the Nepali PM assured the Indian envoy that Nepal would not be allowed to be used against any neighbouring countries. The Nepali Prime Minister's remarks come amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan at his official residence, Baluwatar. "Ambassador Srivastava also expressed gratitude for Thursday's Nepal government's statement regarding the incident," an official from Oli's secretariat told ANI. Nepal, late Thursday evening, voiced support for "all in the fight against terrorism," reacting to India's Operation Sindoor. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, issuing a press release, also called for de-escalation as a measure towards peace. "During this tragic period, Nepal and India stood in solidarity, united in shared grief and suffering. It may be recalled that Nepal had immediately and unequivocally condemned the barbaric terrorist attack, consistent with its resolute stance against all forms of terrorism," the release stated. The ministry added that, in line with its principled position, Nepal shall not allow any inimical forces to use its soil against its neighbouring countries. Nepal hoped for a de-escalation of tension and affirmed its commitment to lasting peace and stability in the region. "Prime Minister Oli told the Indian envoy that Nepal stands for global peace and, in line with its firm stance against all forms of terrorism, condemned the terrorist attack," the official confirmed ANI. India, past midnight on 7th May, carried out a precise attack inside Pakistan, neutralising locations and terrorists who had been orchestrating terror attacks on India. On April 22, terrorists had killed 26 tourists, including a Nepali national, in India's Jammu and Kashmir. The "Operation Sindoor" is in retaliation for the orchestrated terror attack by Pakistani terrorists.

India Gifts 15 Electric Cars To Nepal For Global Climate Summit ‘Sagarmatha Sambad'

India gifted 15 electric vehicles to Nepal on Sunday to facilitate the organisation of 'Sagarmatha Sambad' (mountain dialogue). The Nepal government is hosting Sagarmatha Sambad in Kathmandu from May 16-18 on the theme 'Climate Change, Mountains and the Future of Humanity'. Indian Ambassador to Nepal Naveen Srivastava presented 15 electric vehicles to Nepal's Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba at a function held at Foreign Affairs Ministry, according to a press release issued by the ministry. The vehicles will be used to facilitate the movement of guests and officials attending the event, which aims to highlight the impact of climate change on mountain regions. Ambassador Srivastava extended his best wishes to Nepal for the summit and reaffirmed India's commitment to supporting Nepal's progress and development, according to a press release issued by the Indian Embassy. Foreign Minister Deuba expressed gratitude for India's contribution to the event. The international summit is expected to draw around 300 participants, including climate experts, environmentalists, government officials, diplomats, media personnel, and stakeholders from Nepal and abroad.
