Four-star defensive lineman Valdin Sone announces commitment
Georgia has earned a commit from another elite defensive lineman. Four-star DL Valdin Sone committed to the Georgia Bulldogs over Florida Gators, Nebraska Cornhuskers and Auburn Tigers. Sone is a four-star recruit from the class of 2026, who reclassified from the class of 2027. The 6-foot-3, 315-pound defensive lineman plays high school football for Blue Ridge School in Dyke, Virginia. He earned a spot on the Navy All-American Bowl alongside Georgia freshman wide receiver Talyn Taylor. Sone has a different path than most recruits. He was born in Sweden and is of Cameroonian descent. He grew up playing soccer while also partaking in ju-jitsu and taekwondo. In April 2024, he helped Sweden win the 2024/25 IFAF European Junior Football championships, earning two sacks and a fumble against Denmark in the championship game. Sone marks Georgia seventh defensive lineman commit and 30th overall commit in Georgia's class of 2026. He joins a defensive line room with four-star PJ Dean and three-stars Corey Howard, Carter Luckie, Preston Carey, and Seven Cloud. Sone is the highest ranked among them as he is the No. 4 defensive line prospect and No. 46 overall prospect in the class of 2026. Sone is Georgia's fifth commit from the month of July. The Bulldogs are continuing the massive hot streak they had from middle-late June, but Georgia has had four recruits in a six-day span. They have the No. 2 recruiting class of 2026 in the nation, just behind USC.

Josh Pate Names Prominent Big Ten Program On the Rise
Josh Pate Names Prominent Big Ten Program On the Rise originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The 2024 college football season ended several streaks for teams that had not made a bowl game in years. The Nebraska Cornhuskers ended their non-bowl game streak by making a bowl game for the first time since their 9-4 season in 2016. The question is whether the Cornhuskers can continue to make improvements in 2025. One advantage Nebraska has is history. History shows that in Year 3 under Matt Rhule, his teams have typically made significant improvements. At Temple, the Owls improved from a 6-6 record in Year 2 to 10-4 in Year 3. Similarly, at Baylor, the Bears progressed from 7-6 to 11-3 in their third year. Now, as we enter Year 3 at Nebraska, the question is whether the team can achieve a comparable jump in performance. On "Josh Pate's College Football Show," the college football analyst stated he believes the Cornhuskers will make significant strides this season. "I am ready to predict," Pate said. "I am ready to back with my own money that Nebraska will be better than 6-6 this year. It's Matt Rhule. It's Year 3. You know the science behind the rule of three. Dylan Raiola with better options, that's what I'm thinking about. Now, I don't love that (defensive coordinator) Tony White is gone. I just need them to hold the rope defensively." Pate mentioned that he doesn't believe Nebraska needs to achieve a record of 10-2 or 11-1. Instead, he thinks the focus should be on finding a way to win at least eight games in the upcoming season. The Cornhuskers haven't reached the eight-win mark since 2016.. Pate believes that Nebraska should win at least seven or eight games this season, citing the team's schedule as a key factor. According to Athlon Sports' Kyle Wood, Nebraska has the easiest schedule in the conference. After the Cornhuskers' season opener against Cincinnati in Kansas City, their next four games will all be played at home. While one of those home games features a matchup against Michigan, which is expected to be their toughest contest until late November, the overall schedule appears favorable for Nebraska. While finishing on the road against the Penn State Nittany Lions and at home against the Iowa Hawkeyes may prove challenging for the Cornhuskers, six of their nine Big Ten opponents had a losing record in league play last season. Nebraska also avoids playing the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Oregon Ducks. Additionally, the team will host the USC Trojans. The Cornhuskers open the season against Cincinnati at 8 p.m. ET on Aug. story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Jul 16, 2025, where it first appeared.

Cincinnati Bearcats football opener with Nebraska has a title sponsor
The Cincinnati Bearcats football season doesn't kick off until late August, but their opening game in Kansas City vs. Nebraska now has a title sponsor. Arrowhead Events, the special events arm of the Kansas City Chiefs, on Monday, June 7, announced Battle Sports as the title sponsor of the Kansas City Classic, a newly established college football event at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium. The Aug. 28 game between UC and the Nebraska Cornhuskers will now be the Battle Sports Kansas City Classic. The Cincinnati Bearcats vs. Nebraska Cornhuskers game Aug. 28 at Arrowhead Stadium will be called the Battle Sports Kansas City Classic. 'We're proud to welcome Battle Sports as the title sponsor of the first-ever Kansas City Classic,' Matt Kenny, Executive Vice President of Arrowhead Operations and Events for the Kansas City Chiefs said. 'This game represents an exciting new opportunity for Arrowhead Events as we look to establish a marquee college football tradition right here in the heart of the Kingdom. We are passionate about delivering world-class events, and with Battle Sports joining us on this journey, we're thrilled to invite fans to experience top-tier college football at one of the most iconic venues in sports.' Advertisement Why UC vs. Nebraska? Kansas City Chiefs and Arrowhead Events President Mark Donovan, whose group pursued UC and convinced them to move the game to GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium presided over the event. "They (Cincinnati) are an ascending team that we have a slight connection with through our tight end (former Bearcat Travis Kelce of the Chiefs)," Donovan said. "The Nebraska fan base is extremely loyal and we felt that was a really good combination to drive numbers. We take a lot of pride in sharing the Arrowhead experience. GEHA Field has become this place where people want to play and a place that people want to experience." Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce (87) catches a pass in the fourth quarter of the AFC championship NFL game between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Kansas City Chiefs on Jan. 29, 2023, at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City. Donovan mentioned Arrowhead Stadium had hosted college games in the past under Kansas City Chiefs founder and owner Lamar Hunt dating back to a Grambling State vs. Mississippi Valley State game. The Chiefs home field has hosted 40 college games. Advertisement "That includes five Big 12 championships, five Missouri vs. Kansas rivalry games, two Farmageddon's (Iowa State vs. Kansas State) and four Kansas Jayhawks games last year when their home field in Lawrence, Kansas was being renovated," Donovan said. Kansas City Chiefs President Mark Donovan was one of the players in the Arrowhead Events offer to move the Cincinnati vs. Nebraska football game to Kansas City. The UC/Nebraska primetime showdown at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium will kick off at 8 p.m. CT/ 9 p.m. ET and be televised on ESPN. Arrowhead Events is the special events arm of the Kansas City Chiefs. The stadium is also hosting a 2026 FIFA World Cup soccer match. The organizers approached the Cincinnati Bearcats last fall about moving the scheduled UC/Nebraska game at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. The Chiefs group paid the buyout of the Indianapolis contract and UC is set to get 75% of the gate of the Battle Sports Kansas City Classic in addition to hosting seven other home games at Nippert Stadium. Advertisement "We weren't looking to move it, didn't want to move it from Indy but got a cold call from Arrowhead and a group that was looking to put a game together," UC AD John Cunningham said last fall. "We didn't know if they could get us to where we needed to go financially, but they did. We feel like we can get close to doubling our revenues. In this day and age, business decisions have to be made and this was one we needed to make."
