Four-star defensive lineman Valdin Sone announces commitment
Sone is a four-star recruit from the class of 2026, who reclassified from the class of 2027. The 6-foot-3, 315-pound defensive lineman plays high school football for Blue Ridge School in Dyke, Virginia. He earned a spot on the Navy All-American Bowl alongside Georgia freshman wide receiver Talyn Taylor.
Sone has a different path than most recruits. He was born in Sweden and is of Cameroonian descent. He grew up playing soccer while also partaking in ju-jitsu and taekwondo. In April 2024, he helped Sweden win the 2024/25 IFAF European Junior Football championships, earning two sacks and a fumble against Denmark in the championship game.
Sone marks Georgia seventh defensive lineman commit and 30th overall commit in Georgia's class of 2026. He joins a defensive line room with four-star PJ Dean and three-stars Corey Howard, Carter Luckie, Preston Carey, and Seven Cloud. Sone is the highest ranked among them as he is the No. 4 defensive line prospect and No. 46 overall prospect in the class of 2026.
Sone is Georgia's fifth commit from the month of July. The Bulldogs are continuing the massive hot streak they had from middle-late June, but Georgia has had four recruits in a six-day span. They have the No. 2 recruiting class of 2026 in the nation, just behind USC.

Florida WR placed on scholarship
The Florida Gators football program has placed wide receiver DeBraun Hampton on scholarship, according to his social media accounts. A preferred walk-on out of Willis High in Texas, Hampton is best known for being high school teammates with Florida quarterback DJ Lagway. As a senior, Hampton hauled in 57 receptions for 926 yards and 13 touchdowns. The Gators are hoping to exploit that connection and get Hampton going at the collegiate level. Hampton's only snap last season came as a run blocker in the waning moments of the Gasparilla Bowl. He took his redshirt and could potentially see more action this season. Florida's wide receiver room is among the strongest position rooms in the program. Redshirt senior Kahleil Jackson, redshirt sophomores Eugene Wilson III and Aidan Mizell, sophomore Tank Hawkins and redshirt freshman TJ Abrams make up the returning group. UCLA transfer and Sturdivant and true freshmen Dallas Wilson, Vernell Brown III, Naeshaun Montgomery and Muizz Tounkara are the newbies. Hampton could compete with Montgomery and Tounkara for action on the third team. Whatever happens, performing well enough to be put on scholarship is impactful for the family. Tuition isn't cheap. Hampton could find himself in a special teams role as a punt returner. With spring camp starting on Wednesday, it will be easier to gauge his role on the team following the scholarship offer. Former Gators coach Billy Donovan signs contract extension with Chicago Bulls
Former Florida Gators men's basketball head coach Billy Donovan agreed to a contract extension with the Chicago Bulls on Sunday, according to the Associated Press. Neither party has revealed the length or financial terms of the deal, besides it being a multi-year deal. Donovan had one year remaining on his contract. He's been with Chicago for six seasons, compiling a 195-205 record. Over 10 seasons as an NBA coach, Donovan has a 438-362 record. The Bulls made the play-in tournament for a third year in a row with a 39-43 record under Donovan last year. Despite the plateau of success, Donovan is getting this extension for guiding Chicago through the rebuild. The Bulls have traded Lonzo Ball, Alex Caruso, DeMar DeRozan and Zach Levine in the past two seasons. Coby White and Josh Giddey are the new faces of the franchise. Donovan has won everywhere he's coached. Over 19 years at Florida, he won 467 and lost 185 for a .715 winning percentage. He's over the 500-win threshold overall, counting the two seasons he was the head man at Marshall. Donovan began his career as an assistant at Kentucky. The first five years of his NBA coaching career came with the Oklahoma City Thunder, where he won 243 games at a 60.8% rate. The Thunder made the playoffs all five seasons under Donovan, but the Bulls have only made it once (2021-22) over the same period. 6-foot-4, 310-pound Georgia freshman DL reportedly running over 20 MPH
Former Georgia Bulldogs defensive end David Pollack knows a good defensive lineman when he sees one. If Pollack highlights the talent a true freshman and former five-star recruit, then it is worth listening to. That's exactly what Pollack did when he talked about Georgia freshman defensive lineman Elijah Griffin. Pollack shared ample praise about Griffin on his podcast, "See Ball Get Ball". "Enormous, 6-foot-5, you know, 300-plus pound kid, that's an 18-year-old freshman, that continues to hit over 20 miles an hour every week on the GPS," said Pollack. Based on those numbers, Griffin would be one of the fastest players his size in both college and the NFL. In fact, only three ball carriers reached 20 miles per hour during the Super Bowl, so Griffin has an impressive combination of size and speed. For reference, Elijah Griffin is listed at 6-foot-4 and weights 310 pounds on Georgia's roster. The question is will Griffin be able to put it all together as a freshman? The five-star recruit may have to log a significant amount of snaps this fall as Georgia looks to replace seven of their top eight sack producers from last season. "I think he's a guy (Griffin) that can come in and play a bunch of snaps and and be really good," said Pollack. "Now, he's not going to go kill it. Jalen Carter-type good. Like Jalen Carter when you saw him as a freshman, like he was not refined. He wasn't Jalen Carter as a as a junior." Carter recorded 14 tackles as a freshman with Georgia in 2020. Georgia's 2020 defense was more loaded up front than what the 2025 version of the Georgia defense looks like, so we think Griffin will have a bigger role than Carter did as a freshman. Carter went on to be a first-round NFL draft pick and an NFL All-Pro and Super Bowl champion with the Philadelphia Eagles. "That dude (Griffin) is a guy that you could play and you go I'm not going to have a big drop off," added Pollack. "And when he learns to use his hands and it all starts to work, you better watch the freak out." Despite Pollack's praise for Elijah Griffin, he still has concerns about the Georgia defensive and offensive line. In fact, Pollack predicts that Georgia will go 9-3 this season.
