Kate Hudson reveals why she was told to ‘divorce' parents Goldie Hawn and Bill Hudson as a teen
Kate Hudson was almost famous under different circumstances. The actress, 46, recently revealed that as a teen, she was told to get emancipated from her parents, Goldie Hawn and Bill Hudson, in order to land more work in Hollywood. 'I had gotten this part that they wanted me to basically divorce my parents so that I could work as an adult,' Hudson said while on the 'Awards Chatter' podcast at the Newport Beach TV Fest earlier this month. 10 Kate Hudson attends Newport Beach TV FEST. ‘Awards Chatter' Live Pod: Sam Rockwell on That ‘White Lotus' Monologue, ‘Three Billboards' Award Season and Upcoming Martin McDonagh Reunion ‘Wild Horse Nine'
Sam Rockwell, the Academy, Golden Globe, SAG, Critics Choice, BAFTA and Spirit award-winning and Emmy- and Tony award-nominated character actor who has been giving outstanding performances for more than 30 years, was honored last week at the inaugural Newport Beach TV Fest with the Supporting Performance of the Year Award. The prize was given in recognition of Rockwell's showstopping portrayal of Frank, an American sex addict living in Thailand who reconnects with his old friend Rick (Walton Goggins), on the third installment of HBO's The White Lotus. In the middle of a ceremony at Newport Beach's Lido Theatre that began with a clip of Rockwell's hilariously unforgettable White Lotus monologue and that ended with the festival's director presenting him with his award, the 56-year-old sat down in front of an audience of some 300 fest attendees to record an episode of THR's Awards Chatter podcast with yours truly — his second, following one in 2018 — which you can hear below. Over the course of this episode, he reflected on early milestones in his career, including 1996's Box of Moonlight, 2002's Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, 2008's Choke, 2009's Moon and 2010's Conviction; his numerous stage and screen collaborations with McDonagh, the most famous being the 2017 film Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, for which he won many of the aforementioned awards, as well as the forthcoming Wild Horse Nine; and how he learned his White Lotus monologue with the assistance of Leslie Bibb, his life partner since 2007 and his co-star in The White Lotus. Kate Hudson rejected stepdad Kurt Russell's movie Escape from LA to avoid nepotism accusations
Bang Showbiz | Los Angeles Kate Hudson turned down a role in her stepdad Kurt Russell's movie Escape from LA as she didn't want to be 'defined' by nepotism. The 46-year-old star has recalled how she declined the opportunity to star with Kurt in the 1996 film because she didn't want outsiders to think that she only got the part due to her family connections. Speaking at the Newport Beach TV Fest, Kate – whose mother is actress Goldie Hawn – said: 'I went in and auditioned and got that part, and I sort of realised, 'Oh, this is when you start to make choices that will define your career.' And, 'Do I want to be defined by being Kurt's daughter who got this part? No.' '(It doesn't) matter if I got it because I was good enough – it would never be what people would ever think. And I knew that and was like, 'No, I can't.' So I ended up saying no to that, too.' Kate revealed that she wanted to be an actress from a young age and detailed how her passion stemmed from being on her stepfather's movie sets as a child. The Running Point star said: 'My dad's sets were the fun sets. It was like Big Trouble in Little China and we had slides that would go down into rubber fish, and these amazing costumes. 'And the thing is, when you grow up on a movie set, it's not that fun. (There) is a lot of waiting around, so you realise you really love it when you don't want to get off the movie set.' Hudson added: 'Performing was always something I knew I was going to do. 'There was never a question, but really falling in love with the circus was something that I don't think all kids actually have when they're on a set.' While Kate got the acting bug at an early age, she is unsure whether her sons – Ryder, 21, and Bingham, 13, whom she has with former partners Chris Robinson and Matt Bellamy respectively – feel the same way, although matters are different for her daughter Rani, six, who she has with her fiance Danny Fujikawa.

Emmy Predictions via Feinberg Forecast: Scott Updates His Picks With Just Three Days Until Nominations Voting
A note from Scott: We are now just three days away from the June 12 start of the nominations round of voting to determine this year's Primetime Emmy nominees. I'm writing from Newport Beach, where a ton of contenders attended the inaugural Newport Beach TV Fest — which was a blast — between Thursday and Sunday, including Melanie Lynskey of Paramount+ with Showtime's Yellowjackets, Sterling K. Brown of Hulu's Paradise, Billy Bob Thornton of Paramount+'s Landman and three people with whom I recorded episodes of The Hollywood Reporter's Awards Chatter podcast that will post in the coming days: Kate Hudson of Netflix's Running Point, Sam Rockwell of HBO's The White Lotus and, receiving a hero's welcome in his return to, well, the O.C., Adam Brody of Netflix's Nobody Wants This. More from The Hollywood Reporter Ruthless Ending of 'The Penguin' Makes a Potential Season 2 "More Difficult," Says Colin Farrell Hollywood Flashback: The Moment 'SNL' Started Sweeping the Guest Acting Awards Inside Cynthia Erivo's Tonys Afterparty: "I Think We Should All Dance Now" In other news… The frontrunner in most of the limited series categories, Netflix's Adolescence, swept the Gotham TV Awards on June 2. On June 4, The White Lotus stars Walton Goggins and Aimee Lou Wood, supporting actor and actress hopefuls respectively, finally addressed rumors of a supposed feud between them. And Prime Video announced the cancellation of its comedy series Étoile on June 6. It's a bummer because, while the show is not for everyone and was always a long shot to land noms, voters just lost any incentive to check it out and, for those who already had checked it out and liked it, to vote for it. Remember: You can bookmark this page and return to it for Scott's latest picks. Excepting holidays and breaking news events, it will be updated on Mondays. Think of Scott like a meteorologist: his aim is to forecast what will happen, not to advocate for what he thinks should happen. His projections are arrived at by screening shows, analyzing campaigns, consulting voters and referencing history. • May 1, 2025• May 27, 2025• June 2, 2025 Best of The Hollywood Reporter 'The Studio': 30 Famous Faces Who Play (a Version of) Themselves in the Hollywood-Based Series 22 of the Most Shocking Character Deaths in Television History A 'Star Wars' Timeline: All the Movies and TV Shows in the Franchise

The Costa Mesa City Council on Tuesday named Asst. City Manager Cecilia Gallardo-Daly as interim city manager while officials seek to replace Lori Ann Farrell Harrison, who was terminated during a May 6 closed session council meeting. Gallardo-Daly's appointment comes nearly one and a half years after she was hired on as assistant in December 2023, having come from the same position at the city of San Clemente. Her promotion comes with a pay increase, from $277,932 annually to $330,216, according to figures provided by the city. While the council also discussed the city manager search during Tuesday's closed session, no news was reported from the meeting. Officials, however, on May 20 approved retaining employment attorney Greg Labate of Sheppard Mullin Richter & Hampton LLP to defend the city in connection with anticipated litigation, according to city spokesman Tony Dodero. 'It's going to take us a minute to find a permanent city manager, and I feel confident we are in good hands right now with our interim,' Councilwoman Andrea Marr said of Gallardo-Daly Tuesday. 'Thank you for stepping into this role.' Also Tuesday, the Costa Mesa City Council approved a one-year lease agreement with the UCLA Bruins football team for use of the city's Jack Hammett Sports Complex as a 2025 pre-season training camp location. The city in 2017 entered into a 10-year use agreement with the Los Angeles Chargers to conduct their annual summer training campus at the complex through 2026 at an annual cost of $150,570, along with other community benefits, but decided not to host the program in Costa Mesa this year, freeing up the fields for other players. Under the new agreement, UCLA would use the center from July 30 through Aug. 18 for a $160,000 facility fee, in addition to paying for temporary improvements associated with preparing the site. The team would also offer two youth camps for local youth ages 6 to 14, along with two youth practice sessions, 500 UCLA home game tickets and $25,000 to repair field conditions afterward.
