Kate Hudson reveals why she was told to ‘divorce' parents Goldie Hawn and Bill Hudson as a teen
Kate Hudson was almost famous under different circumstances.
The actress, 46, recently revealed that as a teen, she was told to get emancipated from her parents, Goldie Hawn and Bill Hudson, in order to land more work in Hollywood.
'I had gotten this part that they wanted me to basically divorce my parents so that I could work as an adult,' Hudson said while on the 'Awards Chatter' podcast at the Newport Beach TV Fest earlier this month.

'My mom was like, 'No – never happening,'' she confessed. 'But then I got the 'Party of Five' and it was so great.'
The Fox drama debuted in 1994 and followed the lives of the five Salinger siblings after their parents died in a car crash.
The series starred Matthew Fox as the eldest sibling and guardian, Charlie Salinger, Scott Wolf as Bailey Salinger, Neve Campbell as Julia Salinger, Lacey Chabert as Claudia Salinger and Jacob Smith as Owen Salinger.

Hudson guest-starred on Season 2 episode 21, titled 'Spring Breaks: Part 1' in 1996.
She played Cory, a co-worker of Michael Goorjian's character Justin Thompson. Thompson was Julia's love interest at the beginning of the show.
'Party of Five' marked Hudson's first role on a television series, and she recalled Goorjian, 54, being 'so sweet' and 'so kind' on set.

'It was like two days of shooting,' she explained, 'and I missed two days of school and my mom actually allowed me to do it.'
'I was 16 and obsessed with 'Party of Five,' so walking onto that set was like, I couldn't believe that I was going to have a guest role on it, a day player role,' Hudson gushed. 'I was like, oh. It was so fun.'
While on the live podcast episode, the 'Running Point' star also touched on why she turned down an acting job at the age of 16.

At the time, Hudson had begun seriously auditioning for roles and her stepdad, Kurt Russell, suggested she try out for the part of a young girl in his 1996 movie 'Escape from L.A.'
'I went in and auditioned and got that part, and I sort of realized, 'Oh, this is when you start to make choices that will define your career,'' the singer recounted. 'And, 'Do I want to be defined by being Kurt's daughter who got this part? No.''
'[It doesn't] matter if I got it because I was good enough,' continued Hudson, 'it would never be what people would ever think. And I knew that and was like, 'No, I can't.' So I ended up saying no to that, too.'

After working on 'Party of Five,' the 'Glass Onion' alum, played Larraine Cahill on Season 1 episode 9 of 'EZ Streets,' titled: Neither Have I Wings to Fly' in 1997.
Then, in 2000, Hudson rose to fame as Penny lane in 'Almost Famous.'
Which was inevitable, as the Hollywood vet always knew she wanted to be an actress.

Hudson also recalled visiting Russell, 74, on location as a young child, which spurred her love of acting.
'My dad's sets were the fun sets,' she elaborated. 'It was like 'Big Trouble in Little China' and we had slides that would go down into rubber fish, and these amazing costumes.'
'And the thing is, when you grow up on a movie set, it's not that fun,' Hudson confessed. '[There] is a lot of waiting around, so you realize you really love it when you don't want to get off the movie set.'

Hawn, 79, first started dating Russell in 1983, and the 'Bride Wars' actress shared that in order to be on set with either of her parents, she had to take a job on the film.
'Performing was always something I knew I was going to do,' Hudson noted. 'There was never a question, but really falling in love with the circus was something that I don't think all kids actually have when they're on a set.'

D'oh! 'The Simpsons' executive producer Matt Selman has spoken out about the surprising decision to 'kill off' Marge Simpson during a flash-forward scene in the show's Season 36 finale. Although the decision caused major controversy within the hit cartoon's loyal fanbase, Selman slammed the backlash and claimed that it was 'ridiculous.' 5 'The Simpsons' executive producer Matt Selman has spoken out about the decision to 'kill off' Marge Simpson during a flash-forward scene in the show's Season 36 finale. The Hollywood Reporter via Getty Images 'Obviously, since 'The Simpsons' future episodes are all speculative fantasies, they're all different every time,' he told Variety during an interview published on Thursday, June 26. 'Marge will probably never be dead ever again. The only place Marge is dead is in one future episode that aired six weeks ago,' Selman, 53, added. ''The Simpsons' doesn't even have canon!' The episode in question, titled 'Estranger Things' and which aired on May 18, focuses on siblings Bart and Lisa Simpson as they slowly grow apart after they stop watching 'The Itchy & Scratchy Show' together. 5 Selman slammed the backlash and claimed that it was 'ridiculous.' 20thCentFox/Courtesy Everett Collection After a 35-year time jump, the audience learns that Marge has died, Bart and Lisa are estranged, and Homer Simpson, the family's dad, is living in a retirement home. Michael Jordan Trolls Giants Legend Lawrence Taylor on Golf Course
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Golf has long been the go-to playground for big names, where often legends like Michael Jordan, Tom Brady, Donald Trump, and Steph Curry trade stadium lights for fairways and friendly banter. But sometimes, those actions on the greens become the stage for unforgettable moments. That's exactly what happened this week when NBA icon Michael Jordan rolled up on NFL Hall of Famer Lawrence Taylor and turned a casual reunion into a viral comedy sketch. (Image collage | Getty Images) Getty Images The encounter took place during a casual round at Jordan's exclusive club, Grove XXIII, on Thursday. Jordan, dressed in Tiger Woods' Sun Day Red, pulled up in his cart and greeted Taylor with a warm hug. "How you doin'?" Jordan asked. "Alright," Taylor replied. "Just hangin' in there." The two North Carolina legends shared a quick embrace before Jordan turned to greet the rest of the group. But just as he was about to drive off, he spotted Taylor's footwear, black slip-on shoes with black socks, and couldn't resist. "Man, you really doing motherf***ing relaxing on my golf course!" Jordan quipped, pointing at Taylor's shoes. The entire group, including Taylor, burst into laughter as Jordan sped off in his cart. Taylor, never one to back down, fired back with a grin, joking about Jordan's retirement leisurewear. "Seriously, you so relaxed like a motherf*****," Taylor joked. The moment, caught on video, quickly went viral across social media platforms, with fans loving the rare glimpse of two GOATs trading jabs. This is awesome: Michael Jordan pulled up on Lawrence Taylor while playing golf and immiedialy started talking sh*t. Just two GOATs having fun 😂🐐 — Dov Kleiman (@NFL_DovKleiman) June 27, 2025 Jordan's golf course antics are nothing new. From betting on 50-foot putts to trash-talking Charles Barkley mid-round, his airness has built a second legacy on the links. "I kind of got into golf mainly because, from a competitive standpoint, to me, it is the hardest game to play," he once said. "For a competitive person like me, this is what keeps me sane." Talking about the bond between Jordan and Taylor, it runs deep. As Taylor was preparing to leave UNC for the NFL in 1981, Jordan was just arriving on campus to begin his basketball journey. "We played a lot of pickup, hung out a lot," Taylor told the New York Post in 2020. "He's probably the most competitive person I know. He'll bet on a 50-foot putt and make it nine times out of ten."
