White sneakers: The ageless icon and how to keep them clean

You can wear white sneakers with just about anything. Image: Vi Tran / Unsplash White sneakers are a must-have, no matter your age. You don't need to be a fashion expert to know they're as essential as a good pair of jeans. They are timeless, versatile, and loved across generations, making them the ultimate style shortcut. Even my dad, with his classic taste, swears by them, while my Gen Z son practically lives in his Nike Air Force 1s. There are a few fashion items that have stuck around over the years, quite like a pristine pair of white kicks. Nike Air Force 1s are still very popular. Image: Adam Djili / Pexels Even though they started as sports shoes, think tennis shoes, they slowly crept into everyday lives, becoming a symbol of cool comfort. My dad used to rock New Balances, which are now referred to as 'dad sneakers', while my youngest daughter is begging for a pair of Adidas Sambas. Then there's me, now clocking in at 50, who used to love my canvas Converse Chuck Taylor All Stars in my young days. I wore them with just about everything. Now my go-to white sneaker is a classic pair of Adidas Stan Smiths, even though I'm well aware of the fact that the Sambas are all the rage right now. I used to wear my All Stars with everything. Image: Cottonbro Studio / Pexels Yes, the Nike Air Force 1s are still a big seller amongst the young ones, but some are now gravitating towards the retro styles like the New Balance 530s and the Vintage Club C 85 Reeboks. White sneakers are the ultimate chameleon in your wardrobe. They instantly elevate a casual outfit, add a cool edge to something more dressed up, and seriously, they go with everything. They bring a fresh, clean, and effortlessly chic vibe to any look. Youngsters are leaning into retro styles. Image: Konstantin Mishchenko / Pexels Whether you're aiming for athleisure, minimalist, or even a smart-casual ensemble, a pair of white sneakers just works. I've even seen gents rocking them with suits! But let's be real, owning white sneakers comes with one big drawback: they're notoriously difficult to keep clean. One stray puddle, a rogue coffee spill, or even just daily wear can turn your pristine kicks into a dirty disaster. It's a constant battle against scuffs, grime, and that dreaded yellowing. Keeping white sneakers clean can be a challenge. Image: Alena Darmel / Pexels However, with a little bit of TLC, you can keep those white sneakers looking fresh. Here are a few tips on how to take care of yours. Spot clean immediately: The worst thing you can do is let a stain set. For small marks, a damp cloth with a little mild soap or even micellar water (yes the makeup remover) can work wonders. Laces first: Remove your laces and soak them in a bowl of warm, soapy water with a scoop of baking soda. You can even toss them in a mesh bag in the washing machine. Baking soda and vinegar paste: For more stubborn dirt on canvas or rubber, mix a tablespoon of baking soda with two tablespoons of white vinegar to form a paste. Apply it with an old toothbrush, let it sit for a bit, then scrub and wipe clean. Protective spray: Invest in a good stain and water repellent spray. Apply it when your shoes are brand new and clean, and reapply periodically. It creates a barrier that makes dirt harder to stick. Air dry: Always air dry your sneakers away from direct sunlight or heat, which can cause yellowing. Stuff them with paper towels to help absorb moisture and maintain their shape. So, while the struggle is real, the timeless style of white sneakers makes all that cleaning worthwhile. They're not just a trend; they're a fashion legacy, and they're definitely here to stay. Russell Wilson's Wife Ciara Reveals Exciting Personal Update

Russell Wilson's Wife Ciara Reveals Exciting Personal Update originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Ciara has been out and about the past couple of weeks. It's been a decade since Ciara performed in London, but her return at Mighty Hoopla Festival on Sunday night was anything but quiet. The R&B icon and wife of NFL player Russell Wilson headlined the festival this past weekend, alongside Ke$ha, who performed on Saturday night. Other people in the lineup this year included JADE from Little Mix, Jojo, Loreen and Erika Jayne. During her set, the "Goodies" singer stepped out in an all-white ensemble: a corset-style tank top, matching pants, a pair of Nike Air Force 1s, a dramatic fur coat and a large statement-making crown to top it all off. "Came back to perform in London after a decade and headline the Mighty Hoopla Festival!" Ciara wrote on Instagram a few hours after leaving the stage. "What an amazing feeling it was to hear all 20K + of you singing my songs with me! I will never forget this moment! 🫶🏽 🇬🇧." Ciara's previous performance in London prior to the Mighty Hoopla was on July 5, 2015, at the Wireless Festival. This event marked the conclusion of her "Jackie Tour" and was her sole European show during that tour. Before that, she performed in London in June 2009 as a supporting act for Britney Spears' The Circus Starring Britney Spears Tour at The O2 Arena. The 39-year-old also went to TikTok to celebrate this personal milestone, dancing to Brittany Spears' "Toxic" after finishing her performance. "After you just Headlined the Hoopla Festival with over 20 plus thousand crowd," she wrote as her caption. The week before, Ciara presented at this year's American Music Awards in Las Vegas. This story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Jun 2, 2025, where it first appeared.

Fashion meets sustainability: A sneak peek at 2nd Street outlet in Orchard, opening on April 29, Lifestyle News

2nd Street is coming to Singapore, merging sustainability and style. Japan's largest secondhand fashion store is set to open its first Singapore outlet at 313@Somerset on April 29. Known for its curated selection of pre-owned fashion items, 2nd Street aims to make secondhand shopping more convenient, stylish and accessible for fashion lovers in Singapore. Located at Basement 1 of the shopping mall, the 6,198 sq ft store will hold more than 23,000 handpicked items straight from Japan — from casual streetwear to luxury international brands. Though this is its first store outlet in Singapore, 2nd Street has nearly 1,000 stores worldwide, with more than 800 stores in Japan alone. What to expect A rewarding thrifting experience often ends with something unique and wallet-friendly — and it seems that 2nd Street seeks to deliver on both fronts. With prices starting at $5, 2nd Street offers a range of items that will likely suit thrifting enthusiasts, regardless of their budget or fashion preferences. Sneakerheads will find plenty to get excited about, with a variety of Nike Air Force 1s and Nike Air Jordans to choose from. Outdoor enthusiasts can look forward to items from The North Face, Gregory and Outdoor Products on the racks. And if you're on the lookout for luxury brands, we spotted a number of steals during the media preview on Monday (April 21) — from Louis Vuitton and Chanel bags to Hermes watches. Fashion meets sustainability At its core, 2nd Street champions sustainable fashion and prides itself on being a reuse shop that offers a wide range of quality pre-owned items. A spokesperson shared with AsiaOne that the brand aims to make the thrifting experience fun for customers, likening it to a treasure hunt. He added: "We always aim to rotate our items on a daily or weekly basis. Ideally, every time a customer comes in, there should be something new to discover, be it new items people bring in or items we rotate." Customers are encouraged to contribute and be part of the thrifting community by offering their pre-loved items to 2nd Street, giving these items a new lease of life. While 2nd Street has an evaluation process for these items, customers need not book appointments beforehand and same-day quotes are also available. Items that pass the quality test can then be resold, recycled or upcycled into something new, continuing their journey in the fashion ecosystem. Thrifting enthusiasts can visit the brand's website and Instagram page for more details. Address: 313 Orchard Rd, #B1 - 23 to 34, Singapore 238895 Opening hours: Daily, 11am to 10pm [[nid:715747]] amierul@
