23XI Racing refuses to comment on Tyler Reddick's future in No. 45 car

Tyler Reddick's future with 23XI Racing is questionable as the organization continues its antitrust lawsuit against NASCAR. Reddick's contract states that he can become a free agent if 23XI Racing doesn't have charters. Ahead of the NASCAR weekend at Dover Motor Speedway, team owner Denny Hamlin was asked about the driver of the No. 45 car possibly being lured to a different organization. Instead of giving a precise answer, Hamlin refused to comment on Reddick's future and said "all will be exposed" on December 1st, the date of the trial. Reddick will be free to leave 23XI Racing if no charters are available for the 2026 NASCAR Cup Series season, but any move in-season seems unlikely. If the 23XI Racing driver were to leave the No. 45 Cup team, he would have several suitors, so this will be worthwhile to watch moving forward. Reddick is an elite talent in the Cup Series, and many top NASCAR organizations would try to sign him to a long-term contract before the 2026 season. 45 days until the Texans' 2025 season opener: Who has worn No.45?

The Houston Texans are less than 50 days away from kicking off the 2025 season in Los Angeles against the Rams at SoFi Stadium and we're counting down the days until a victory ensues on the west coast. Texans Wire will daily tell you which player has worn the number of the day leading up to kickoff and pick the player who ensured the number best during their time at NRG Stadium. As for today, let's take a look at who has worn No. 45 since the inaugural season in 2002. Texans players to wear No. 45 No. 45 currently belongs to new linebacker E.J. Speed. Once an enemy as a member of the Indianapolis Colts, Speed signed a one-year contract this offseason to compete for reps opposite Azeez Al-Shaair in DeMeco Ryans' starting defense. He'll have his chance to impress during training camp after back-to-back solid seasons playing in the AFC South. In his second full season as a starter, the 6-foot-4 Tarelton State backer finished with 142 tackles (12th in the NFL), seven tackles for losses and five pass deflections. His 93 solo stops were tied for third-most in the league. Speed also has six forced fumbles and has been a reliable name to know on special teams. Since Ossai has yet to even take a snap in the preseason, let alone in training camp, he can't be the G.O.A.T. of No. 45. Much like No. 49, 47 and 46, it's hard to say there's one player who has earned the title, especially since the options are few and far between. Best Player: Jay Prosch Amid a run toward the postseason under Bill O'Brien, Prosch was the "yes, sir" player. You needed a name to fill in on punts? Yes sir. You needed an extra red zone blocker? Yes sir. You wanted another guy to factor in on fourth-down calls? Call Prosch. He's ready to go. In three seasons, Prosch played over 800 snaps, totaling 13 starts and an average of 11.3 yards per game. Yes, it seems like nothing, but the role of a fullback often goes unnoticed in the grand scheme of things. That won't be the case here with Prosch taking a slight lean over everyone else.

45 days until Saints season opener: Every player to wear No. 45

Looking through all the Saints players that have worn No. 45 There are 45 days remaining until the New Orleans Saints take the field for their 2025 regular season opener at home against the Arizona Cardinals. One returning name for new coach Kellen Moore is linebacker Nephi Sewell, who has worn No. 45 since 2022. Sewell is the 14th player to wear 45 in New Orleans history. This is the full list. Saints' History of No. 45 Jimmy Jordan was the first to wear 45 for the Saints, doing it for one game during the inaugural 1967 for the franchise. Elbert Kimbrough was the first defensive player to wear the number, doing so for 10 games in 1968 with an interception. Pete Athas had 2 interceptions and a fumble recovery during his only year as a Saint in 1971. The first four players to wear No. 45 for the Saints were gone before the next year and appeared in a combined 31 games. Jack Holmes broke that trend in 1978. Holmes was with the Saints for five years and 64 games, which turned out to be the longest stretch of any New Orleans player that has worn 45. Over his time with New Orleans, Holmes accounted for 6 touchdowns and had 846 yards from scrimmage. Of the 14 players that wore No. 45 with New Orleans, not one was drafted by the Saints. Six of them were with the team for more than one year. Four of those managed to stay with New Orleans for greater than two seasons. Fullback Jed Collins was one. Collins didn't fill up a stat sheet, but was with the Saints for three seasons and 47 games as a quality lead blocker. He also scored 7 touchdowns out of his 58 touches in short yardage situations. Garrett Griffin's time with New Orleans was also as a blocker, but he'd appear in just 20 games and catch five passes. Nephi Sewell has been with New Orleans for the last three years. Mostly a special teams contributor, Sewell's agility and experience as a college safety could earn him a role in defensive coverage packages. Sewell has appeared in just 27 games, but already third among players who have worn No. 45 with New Orleans.

Steelers countdown to kickoff — No. 45: a history of the number and who wore it best

The Steelers countdown to kickoff is here — and we're at 45 days until Pittsburgh faces off against the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium. In the spirit of the countdown, we're taking a look at the history of No. 45 and the players who wore it best. Current Steelers No. 45 wearers: LS Tucker Addington, OLB Julius Welschof There are two Steelers currently wearing No. 45 heading into the 2025 season: LS Tucker Addington and OLB Julius Welschof. Addington will compete with LS Christian Kuntz at training camp for the starting long snapper position, while Welschof — who gives the Steelers an additional roster spot thanks to the International Player Pathway — is looking for a depth role in a loaded outside linebacker room. Last five Steelers to wear No. 45: Best No. 45 in Steelers history: DB Jimmy Allen Jimmy Allen is the best Steeler to ever wear No. 45. Drafted with the 100th overall pick in the fourth round of Pittsburgh's legendary 1974 NFL Draft class, Allen played four seasons with the Steelers from 1974 to 1977 — winning two Super Bowls along the way. He appeared in 50 games for Pittsburgh and recorded seven interceptions before being traded to the Detroit Lions in 1978. A solid contributor during one of the most iconic defensive eras in league history, Allen remains the greatest to wear No. 45 in the Steel City. Josef Newgarden is Okay Following Airborne Flip in IndyCar's First Short Oval Race of the Season

Josef Newgarden is okay after a massive crash with rookie Louis Foster, which sent the two-time Indianapolis 500 winner's car flipping over its nose in the Bommarito Automotive Group 500. Newgarden was leading on lap 130 and approaching a battle between Foster and Santino Ferrucci that would send the rookie into the marbles and then into the wall. After Foster lost control in the marbles and hit the wall, and slid down the track. Josef Newgarden, with nowhere to go, ran straight into the side of Foster's No. 45, causing his Hitachi Dallara/Chevrolet to flip over its own nose and skid down the track on its roll bar and halo. With slightly more air, Newgarden could've ended up flipping over the low wall separating the front stretch and pit lane. "I got a bit of a wiggle... got a bit too high and went into the marbles," Foster told IndyCar on Fox. "I just couldn't stop the car from spinning and, obviously, a pretty scary impact with myself and Josef. I'm glad he is OK." When Foster was crashing across the track, Alex Palou was coming out of the corner, Palou having a better view of the crash, and Foster's trajectory went high, where Newgarden was set to exit the corner just moments later. Reacting to Palou's reaction, Newgarden moved down the track, and there was nowhere to avoid Foster's broken car, which came to a halt at the inside SAFER barrier. Kyle Kirkwood went on to win the race over Pato O'Ward, securing his first oval win and continuing to be the only driver, aside from defending champion and reigning Indianapolis 500 winner Palou, to have won. We are now eight races into the IndyCar season with only two winners, Palou and Kirkwood. O'Ward separates the two in the championship points with his run of top-five finishes.
