45 days until the Texans' 2025 season opener: Who has worn No.45?
Texans Wire will daily tell you which player has worn the number of the day leading up to kickoff and pick the player who ensured the number best during their time at NRG Stadium. As for today, let's take a look at who has worn No. 45 since the inaugural season in 2002.
Texans players to wear No. 45
No. 45 currently belongs to new linebacker E.J. Speed. Once an enemy as a member of the Indianapolis Colts, Speed signed a one-year contract this offseason to compete for reps opposite Azeez Al-Shaair in DeMeco Ryans' starting defense.
He'll have his chance to impress during training camp after back-to-back solid seasons playing in the AFC South. In his second full season as a starter, the 6-foot-4 Tarelton State backer finished with 142 tackles (12th in the NFL), seven tackles for losses and five pass deflections. His 93 solo stops were tied for third-most in the league. Speed also has six forced fumbles and has been a reliable name to know on special teams.
Since Ossai has yet to even take a snap in the preseason, let alone in training camp, he can't be the G.O.A.T. of No. 45. Much like No. 49, 47 and 46, it's hard to say there's one player who has earned the title, especially since the options are few and far between.
Best Player: Jay Prosch
Amid a run toward the postseason under Bill O'Brien, Prosch was the "yes, sir" player. You needed a name to fill in on punts? Yes sir. You needed an extra red zone blocker? Yes sir. You wanted another guy to factor in on fourth-down calls?
Call Prosch. He's ready to go. In three seasons, Prosch played over 800 snaps, totaling 13 starts and an average of 11.3 yards per game. Yes, it seems like nothing, but the role of a fullback often goes unnoticed in the grand scheme of things.
That won't be the case here with Prosch taking a slight lean over everyone else.

Texans Pro Bowl RB Joe Mixon expected to miss 'extended time' ahead of 2025 season
The hits keep coming for the Houston Texans The news surrounding Houston Texans Pro Bowl running back Joe Mixon has gone from bad to worse as the first week of training camp ends. According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Mixon, who was placed on the non-football injury list at the start of camp, is expected to be out for an extended period with a lingering foot injury. The Pro Bowler coming off his first 1,000-yard season with the AFC South champions is expected to be reevaluated closer to the season to determine his availability. What does this mean for the Texans' future? Right now, nothing. Mixon, who inked a three-year, $27 million extension last offseason, likely would have been limited in drills for the majority of training camp. He wasn't expected to play in most preseason games either, as most of the starters see a majority of their reps during team drills in joint practices. But if Mixon were to miss the beginning of the year, that would change the outlook of the offense under new play-caller Nick Caley. Part of the reason for Caley's hiring was his work surrounding running backs, so a limited ground game would elevate the pressure for Pro Bowl quarterback C.J. Stroud to deliver from the jump on the road in Los Angeles. In his first season with the Texans, Mixon rushed for 1,016 yards and 11 touchdowns, helping Houston secure its second AFC South division title under DeMeco Ryans. On pace to eclipse over 1,300 yards, Mixon was limited to 14 games due to an ankle injury suffered in Week 2's win over the Chicago Bears. With Mixon out, former All-Pro Nick Chubb is expected to start as the first option for the offense. He's coming off an underwhelming season in Cleveland, but the four-time Pro Bowler is just two years removed from an All-Pro season that saw him total 1,525 yards and 12 touchdowns. The Texans also drafted Woody Marks in the fourth round out of USC and have Dameon Pierce entering a contract year. Pierce, the Texans' former lead back, is currently on the PUP list entering Week 2 of training camp.

Vikings' Dallas Turner opens up about his offseason plan for a breakout 2025
Dallas Turner is under a microscope heading into his second year, especially with the team having to look around and see the likes of Chop Robinson and Jared Verse thrive with the teams that picked them. While Turner was drafted 17th overall, Verse was drafted 19th by the Rams, and Robinson was selected 21st by the Dolphins. While Turner looks to join his draft classmates in the top tier of pass rushers, he took some steps this offseason to get there. Speaking at training camp, Turner gave everyone a glimpse into who he worked with and how he is getting ready for the new season. Turner explained his offseason work and the urgency he had, saying, 'Right after the season… [Greenard and I] were hitting it strong in the weight room, watching film, picking each other's brain. He has a lot of knowledge. He's one of the best vets on the team… it was a good opportunity to be around him and spend time with him and see how he got to this point in his career.' For Turner, he is behind two Pro Bowlers, compared to Robinson and Verse, who are on the same team as Andrew Van Ginkel and Jonathan Greenard. What is going to turn Turner, though, is that Brian Flores has shown he will use a rotation of pass rushers in his schemes. Turner didn't get a lot of playing time last year, so tracking his snaps in the preseason will be critical to setting expectations.

LOOK: C.J. Stroud debuts new H-Town Blue practice jerseys ahead of training camp
It's not Love-Ya Blue, but H-Town Blue looks even better C.J. Stroud is looking for his best season yet, but he's also looking fresh in the new blue practice jerseys. With over 1,000 fans in attendance, the Houston Texans Pro Bowl quarterback greeted those who waited out in the rain, debuting a new H-Town Blue practice jersey. Quarterbacks will wear the H-Town color for all practices in front of the public. Here's a look at C.J. and new returner Braxton Berrios meeting with fans just before the start of practice. Last season, Stroud took a step back from his record-setting season. It wasn't terrible, but it was far from his standard, doubling his interception total and only tossing 20 touchdown passes. This offseason, Stroud focused on building himself up as a better team leader while focusing on his spiritual impact. 'I just want consistent wins," Stroud said Wednesday. "Not just like on the scoreboard or just on the field, of course that's very important, but just in life. So, just consistently winning.' The Texans open the season at SoFi Stadium against the Los Angeles Rams on Sept. 7.
