45 days until the Texans' 2025 season opener: Who has worn No.45?
The Houston Texans are less than 50 days away from kicking off the 2025 season in Los Angeles against the Rams at SoFi Stadium and we're counting down the days until a victory ensues on the west coast. Texans Wire will daily tell you which player has worn the number of the day leading up to kickoff and pick the player who ensured the number best during their time at NRG Stadium. As for today, let's take a look at who has worn No. 45 since the inaugural season in 2002. Texans players to wear No. 45 No. 45 currently belongs to new linebacker E.J. Speed. Once an enemy as a member of the Indianapolis Colts, Speed signed a one-year contract this offseason to compete for reps opposite Azeez Al-Shaair in DeMeco Ryans' starting defense. He'll have his chance to impress during training camp after back-to-back solid seasons playing in the AFC South. In his second full season as a starter, the 6-foot-4 Tarelton State backer finished with 142 tackles (12th in the NFL), seven tackles for losses and five pass deflections. His 93 solo stops were tied for third-most in the league. Speed also has six forced fumbles and has been a reliable name to know on special teams. Since Ossai has yet to even take a snap in the preseason, let alone in training camp, he can't be the G.O.A.T. of No. 45. Much like No. 49, 47 and 46, it's hard to say there's one player who has earned the title, especially since the options are few and far between. Best Player: Jay Prosch Amid a run toward the postseason under Bill O'Brien, Prosch was the "yes, sir" player. You needed a name to fill in on punts? Yes sir. You needed an extra red zone blocker? Yes sir. You wanted another guy to factor in on fourth-down calls? Call Prosch. He's ready to go. In three seasons, Prosch played over 800 snaps, totaling 13 starts and an average of 11.3 yards per game. Yes, it seems like nothing, but the role of a fullback often goes unnoticed in the grand scheme of things. That won't be the case here with Prosch taking a slight lean over everyone else.

Current Steelers No. 45 wearers: LS Tucker Addington, OLB Julius Welschof There are two Steelers currently wearing No. 45 heading into the 2025 season: LS Tucker Addington and OLB Julius Welschof. Addington will compete with LS Christian Kuntz at training camp for the starting long snapper position, while Welschof — who gives the Steelers an additional roster spot thanks to the International Player Pathway — is looking for a depth role in a loaded outside linebacker room. Last five Steelers to wear No. 45: Best No. 45 in Steelers history: DB Jimmy Allen Jimmy Allen is the best Steeler to ever wear No. 45. Drafted with the 100th overall pick in the fourth round of Pittsburgh's legendary 1974 NFL Draft class, Allen played four seasons with the Steelers from 1974 to 1977 — winning two Super Bowls along the way. He appeared in 50 games for Pittsburgh and recorded seven interceptions before being traded to the Detroit Lions in 1978. A solid contributor during one of the most iconic defensive eras in league history, Allen remains the greatest to wear No. 45 in the Steel City. Several NASCAR Cup teams announce new sponsor deals
Several NASCAR Cup teams have announced sponsor deals this week, including 23XI Racing, Trackhouse Racing, Rick Ware Racing and Front Row Motorsports. Rick Ware Racing is the latest team with sponsorship news, signing Arby's for a 12-race primary sponsor deal that begins this weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway on Cody Ware's No. 51 car. The deal also includes two races with Rick Ware Racing's Top Fuel dragster piloted by Clay Millican in the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series. Also announced this week: 23XI Racing has renewed its partnership with Xfinity. The company will be featured on the cars of Tyler Reddick and Bubba Wallace, beginning this weekend at Atlanta on Reddick's No. 45. The deal also includes sponsorship of the Xfinity Speed Center, the room at Airspeed where 23XI Racing engineers can analyze data from the track and communicate with the team members at the track. Front Row Motorsports will partner with Aaron's in a multi-race deal to be on the cars of Todd Gilliland and Zane Smith this season. Aaron's will be on Gilliland's car this weekend at Atlanta. Aaron's will be on Smith's car for seven races: Phoenix (March 9), Homestead (March 23), Bristol (April 13), Atlanta (June 28), Indianapolis (July 27), Daytona (Aug. 23) and Phoenix (Nov. 2). Trackhouse Racing has extended its partnership with Kubota through the 2027 Cup season. Kubota will sponsor Ross Chastain's No. 1 Cup car in six races: Phoenix (March 9), Las Vegas (March 16), Homestead (March 23), Sonoma (July 13), New Hampshire (Sept. 21) and Kansas (Sept. 28). Kubota will be the primary sponsor on Daniel Suarez's car at Texas (May 4). Kubota also will be the primary sponsor on the JR Motorsports Xfinity car driven by Trackhouse Racing's Shane van Gisbergen at Watkins Glen (Aug. 9). Haas Factory Team will partner with Caymus Vineyards. The vineyard's Bonanza Cabernet will be featured on Cole Custer's car at Circuit of the Americas (March 2) and Las Vegas (Oct. 12). Rick Ware Racing's No. 01 of Corey LaJoie will have AirMedCare Network on its car this weekend at Atlanta.
