47 days until the Texans' 2025 season opener: Who has worn No.47?

The Houston Texans are less than 50 days away from kicking off the 2025 season in Los Angeles against the Rams at SoFi Stadium and we're counting down the days until a victory ensues on the west coast. Texans Wire will each day tell you which player has worn the number of the day leading up to kickoff and pick the player who ensured the number best during their time at NRG Stadium. As for today, let's take a look at who has worn No. 47 since the inaugural season in 2002. Texans players to wear No. 47 No. 47 currently belongs to undrafted rookie free agent K.C. Ossai. Entering training camp, Ossai will begin the year of the PUP list, along with names like defensive lineman Denico Autry, wide receiver Tank Dell and running back Dameon Pierce. Since Ossai has yet to even take a snap in the preseason, let alone in training camp, he can't be the G.O.A.T. of No. 47. Much like No. 49, it's hard to say there's one player who has earned the title, especially since the options are few and far between. Best Player: Jarrod Baxter He was the first player to wear the No. 47 and given how few names are on the list, he deserves some respect. He also totaled seven times for 14 yards while catching five passes for 33 yards and a touchdown in 16 games during the 2002 season. That's enough to earn the nod.

47 days until Saints season opener: Every player to wear No. 47

A look at all the players to wear No. 47 for the Saints, from Justin Drescher to Alex Anzalone The New Orleans Saints are down to 47 days before their 2025 regular season opener against the Arizona Cardinals. Kellen Moore enters his first season as the team's head coach in their 59th year of operation. Here is a look at all the players who have worn No. 47 during the regular season with New Orleans. Saints' History of No. 47 There have been 17 players to wear No. 47 in a regular season game for the Saints. Of those, 14 of them have worn it for two years or less with 10 doing it for less than a year. Bruce Cortez was the first Saint to wear No. 47, though he did so for only one game. A Round 16 pick in their first ever draft of 1967, Cortez was also the first player drafted by New Orleans to wear this number. Bill Dusenbery was the first offensive player to don 47 for the Saints, but for only eight games in 1970. Virgil Robinson was the first to wear 47 into a second season, spanning 1971 into 1972. Robinson rushed for 97 yards and a score over 14 contests and in 1971 was the team's kick returner. Mike Spivey was the next to wear 47 into a second year nearly a decade later, appearing in 14 games over two seasons. Cornerback Cedric Mack bettered that by one game after almost another decade, wearing 47 through the 1992 and '93 campaigns. The first of only three players to wear No. 47 for at least three years was Kevin Houser from 2000 through 2008. Listed as a center, Houser was the team's long snapper for 144 games over his seven years. He is the longest-tenured No. 47 for the Saints. The second longest is Justin Drescher. Also a long snapper, Drescher suited up in 102 contests for New Orleans. A distant third on games played in No. 47 with the Saints is linebacker Alex Anzalone. A third round choice from the Florida Gators in the 2017 NFL draft, Anzalone is also the highest drafted player by New Orleans to wear the jersey number. Anzalone was often injured during his time with the team, appearing in 38 games over his first four years before signing with the Detroit Lions. When he was on the field, he was a productive defender. As a Saint, Anzalone had an interception and forced 3 fumbles while recording 8 tackles for loss and 4 sacks. New Orleans used a Round 5 choice in this year's draft on Oklahoma Sooners linebacker Danny Stutsman. In the defensive system of new coordinator Brandon Staley, Stutsman may be a terrific fit as New Orleans tries to rebuild a defense that up until last year had been formidable.

Steelers countdown to kickoff — No. 47: a history of the number and who wore it best

The Steelers countdown to kickoff is here — and we're at 47 days until Pittsburgh faces off against the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium. In the spirit of the countdown, we're taking a look at the history of No. 47 and the players who wore it best. Current Steelers No. 47 wearer: N/A There isn't a current wearer of No. 47 on the Steelers roster — and for good reason, as the number has been officially retired out of respect for one of the greatest cornerbacks in NFL history. Last five Steelers to wear No. 47: Best No. 47 in Steelers history: CB Mel Blount There's no debating this selection — Mel Blount is the best Steeler to ever wear No. 47. Drafted by Pittsburgh with the 53rd overall pick in the third round of the 1970 NFL Draft, Blount played in 200 games over 14 seasons for Pittsburgh — winning four Super Bowls with the legendary Steel Curtain defense, earning five Pro Bowl honors, two First-Team All-Pro selections, four Second-Team All-Pro selections, and the 1975 NFL Defensive Player of the Year award. For his stellar career, he was named to the NFL 1980s All-Decade Team, 75th Anniversary Team, 100th Anniversary Team, Steelers All-Time Team, and Steelers Hall of Honor. Blount finished his career with 57 interceptions — the most in franchise history. His elite and physical style of play led to the creation of the illegal contact rule, widely referred to as the 'Mel Blount Rule.' Blount was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1989 and remains the greatest Steeler to have worn — or ever will wear — No. 47. Hyak Motorsports fires NASCAR Cup spotter Tab Boyd

Hyak Motorsports has parted ways with spotter Tab Boyd, who worked with Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and the No. 47 Chevrolet. Weekend rosters show that Clayton Hughes will be atop the spotter's stand for Pocono, replacing Boyd. Stenhouse confirmed the news on Friday morning in a SiriusXM NASCAR interview, saying: "That's an unfortunate deal. The team let Tab Boyd go this week, and we got Clayton Hughes to come fill in. I've never worked with Clayton." Advertisement No reason was given for the firing of Boyd and while reached out to the team for clarification, we have not yet heard back from team representatives. Mexico controversy However, Boyd has been in the news this week for sharing a post on X (formerly Twitter) where he expressed his displeasure with Mexico during NASCAR's recent visit – the first points-paying Cup race outside of the United States since 1958. Boyd has since deleted his account after pushback online, but the original post read as follows: 'I'm ready to go home, screw this place, people can talk it up all they want. Can't even walk out the front door of the hotel without getting hustled and money snatched in less than five minutes. Good area my ass.' Advertisement Boyd was apparently the victim of scammers and while he will not be working the Cup race this weekend, he is still listed as the spotter for Ryan Ellis and the No. 71 DGM Racing Chevrolet in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, as well as for Luke Baldwin and the No. 66 ThorSport Ford in the NASCAR Truck Series. Boyd is a veteran spotter with years of experience, previously working with Hendrick Motorsports and William Byron on the No. 24 Chevrolet. He joined Stenhouse and the No. 47 team three years ago in 2022 and together, the duo won the 2023 Daytona 500. This situation follows Spire Motorsports' decision to fine their own driver, Carson Hocevar. On Tuesday, the team announced that Hocevar was fined $50,000 following an internal investigation into comments he made on a Twitch live-stream, calling Mexico a 's***hole.' The money will go to various Mexican charities and Hocevar will have to undergo mandatory cultural-sensitivity and bias-awareness training. Belfast Giants honour legendary head coach Adam Keefe with jersey retirement at testimonial

At a testimonial game in Keefe's honour, celebrating his 14 years of service to the Giants, in front of his family – including brother Sheldon, head coach of the NHL's New Jersey Devils – his jersey was raised to the rafters at the SSE Arena. It is the highest honour that can be bestowed in hockey and a wholly deserved one for Keefe, the team's most successful coach and an individual who is described as the "heartbeat" of the organisation. And now nobody will ever wear the No.47 jersey ever again as, after a heartfelt speech by Giants chairman Robert Fitzpatrick, the banner was lofted above the West End net where it will forever stay. The jersey raising ceremony was followed by the testimonial, which took the form of a round-robin tournament between former team-mates and players that Keefe has coached split into four teams named after Keefe's former teams. Current Belfast stars such as captain Mark Cooper, David Goodwin, Ben Lake and Jackson Whistle all featured, while fellow retired jerseys Rob Stewart, Colin Shields and Graeme Walton also took part, with Todd Kelman and Shane Johnson taking their place as coaches alongside Sheldon Keefe. Joining the organisation in 2011 as a hard-nosed forward and quickly establishing himself as captain in only his second season in Belfast, Keefe would win two Elite League titles with the Giants as a player but it is as coach that his legacy has been taken to another level. In his seven seasons in charge, Keefe has delivered ten trophies to the Giants out of a possible 19, including the Grand Slam in 2023 as his all-conquering side swept all before them to secure League, Challenge Cup and Play-Off glory. Last season the Brampton, Ontario native led the Giants to their fourth League title under his stewardship, winning a dramatic final day race to clinch the crown, as well as a fifth Cup, and is now preparing to take the team into the Champions League for the fourth time next season. Not just the team's coach, Keefe has now built his life in Northern Ireland having married wife Colleen, with the couple welcoming their first daughter Cora in 2021, with Tara following in 2023.
