Bulk waste generators that don't sort waste at source will be fined in Noida
Bulk waste generators which will not segregate waste at source will be imposed a penalty of ₹ 500 starting July 1, the Noida authority has decided. Noida, India- June 05, 2025: Pile of garbage on the road of Atta Market Sector 27, in Noida, India, on Thursday, June 05, 2025. (Photo by Sunil Ghosh / Hindustan Times) The order comes after the authority had earlier this week directed bulk waste generators to handover only dry waste to the collector, and the wet waste must be processed into compost for recycling, officials said. The authority's health department is organising an awareness workshop for bulk waste generators including apartment owners association, hotels, restaurants, hospital and nursing homes to improve sanitation services so the city can perform better in the upcoming Swachh Survekshan 2025, officials said. Further, if the bulk waste generator will not set up a compost making unit, the authority will stop collecting their waste from July 1. 'We've advised them several times in the past about waste segregation, and setting up of compost making units. We have warned them earlier too. It's time they cooperate so Noida can perform better in the upcoming Swachh Survekshan. If they fail to do so, they will have to pay the fine of ₹ 500 from July 1,' Indu Prakash Singh, officer on special duty, Noida Authority, said. According to Solid Waste Management Rules, any entity producing over 100 kg of waste daily is classified as a bulk waste generator and is mandated to process wet waste through composting. The authority on Thursday held a workshop in Panchsheel Balak Inter College in Sector 91, attended by owners of hotels, restaurants, hospitals, schools, colleges, apartment owners' associations, and other bulk waste producers. The authority had also organised this workshop on June 14 at the same place, appealing the bulk waste generators to comply with the rules or face penalty. Experts at the event urged stakeholders to segregate dry and wet waste and highlighted that composting can be done easily on-site. In the previous years, Noida ranked 324th in 2018 Swacch Survekshan contest, 150th in 2019 (1st in Uttar Pradesh), 25th in 2020, 4th in 2021 (7-star garbage-free city), and 5th in 2022 (recognised as a 'self-sustainable city'). In 2023, Noida ranked 14th on national level and received a five-star rating in garbage-free and water-plus (wastewater recycling) categories.

Any establishment, be it a hotel, restaurant, hospital, RWA, AOA, etc, that generates more than 100 kgs of waste per day falls under the BWG category and is obligated to set up an on-site composting unit," he said. Under the Solid Waste Management (SWM) Rules, 2016, bulk generators are required to treat their wet waste on-site. During the workshop, instructions were given on how to segregate waste into different categories like wet waste, dry waste, hazardous waste, medical waste, etc. According to estimates, Noida generates nearly 800 tons of solid waste per day, out of which nearly 30% originates from BWG premises.

Review Gardenia debt plan, Noida Authority urges UP govt
Noida: Noida Authority has decided to write to the state govt to reconsider its order allowing Gardenia Aims Developers to clear a portion of its dues through proceeds generated from the auction of 122 sealed flats in its Sector 46 project. The Authority said that if allowed, the move would contradict a cabinet-approved policy for stalled projects, which requires defaulting builders to deposit 25% of dues before accessing relief measures. At a meeting on June 14, the Authority board, after examining various aspects of the govt's May 29 order, said that it conflicted with the provisions of the rehabilitation plan for stalled projects decided in Dec 2023. The govt order, under Section 41(3) of the Uttar Pradesh Urban Planning and Development Act, allowed the builder to use proceeds from the auction of 122 sealed flats in Gardenia Glory in Sector 46 to fulfil this 25% requirement. You Can Also Check: Noida AQI | Weather in Noida | Bank Holidays in Noida | Public Holidays in Noida In 2009, Gardenia Aims was allotted 51,719sqm. The builder deposited around Rs 60 crore against a premium of Rs 151 crore. However, the project faced delays, with only 20 of 21 approved towers completed. Of the 1,586 approved units, just 551 received occupancy certificates by Oct 2019. By Dec 2023, total dues stood at Rs 692 crore, with a Rs 130 crore Covid-related rebate. On March 13, 2024, the Authority demanded Rs 140.5 crore (25% of recalculated dues), but no payment was made. On June 5, 2024, the Authority ordered the auction of 122 sealed flats and cancelled the lease of a separate 150-acre commercial plot. The builder secured a stay from a commercial court in Noida on June 19, 2024, prompting the Authority to approach the Allahabad HC. The case remains sub judice. Separately, the builder filed a revision petition. On May 29, the principal secretary of the industrial development department ruled that the Authority could proceed with the auction. The plot would then be restored without fees, and zero-period benefits would be considered per the Dec 2023 policy. Any shortfall would be borne by the builder. Importantly, this order also directed the Authority to decide on the builder's proposal within one month. In response, the builder submitted a written proposal and appeared for a hearing before the addition al CEO. They also urged the Authority that it withdrew its earlier case from the commercial court. The Authority then wrote to the govt, stating that any action on the builder's proposal would require guidance from its board, which sought reconsideration of the govt order.

Deposition of 12-year-old eyewitness key as court gives Noida man life term for wife's murder
Noida: A man facing trial for killing his wife in 2018 was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment by an additional district and sessions judge, the clinching deposition coming from the victim's nephew, who was 12 years when the crime was committed. The court, however, did not find this to be a case that could be considered 'rarest of rare', the judicial yardstick to decide whether a deaths sentence can be given, and awarded the life term under Section 302 of IPC, besides slapping a fine of Rs 10,000 on the convict. Raju alias Abbas aka Aslam, a resident of Sector 5, was accused of stabbing his wife Rubi with a knife while she was accompanying other family members to her sister's tea stall near Noida Authority's office on Aug 4, 2018. The FIR was based on a complaint filed by Rubi's brother Shahrukh Khan. Shahrukh wasn't an eyewitness. He was told about the incident by his mother Jamila Khatun and nephew Rajan. Rajan (12) was with Rubi. You Can Also Check: Noida AQI | Weather in Noida | Bank Holidays in Noida | Public Holidays in Noida Raju, who was arrested on Aug 9, denied the charges and said Rubi was killed by her previous husband, Rafiq. He also argued he was in Bandra (Mumbai) at the time of the killing. "On hearing about the murder, I returned to Noida on Aug 6 to lodge an FIR against Rafiq, but police arrested me instead," he told the court. The prosecution presented the murder weapon, a kitchen knife, and the shirt worn by the assailant during the incident, which had blood spots, as evidence. Shahrukh informed the court his sister was indeed married to Rafiq in 2011 but had left him and married Raju in 2014. Raju and Rubi, he said, had a three-year-old son. "Raju would often quarrel with my sister, accusing her of continuing her relationship with her previous husband. It was on this issue that he attacked her," he told the court. Rajan's testimony became crucial because only he and Jamila were eyewitnesses in the case and Jamila died before she could testify. That made Rajan the star witness. He told the court he saw Raju attack his 'mausi (aunt)' with a knife, stabbing her in the chest and stomach. He said he tried to catch Rajan but was pushed back by him. "My grandmother (Jamila) fainted. With the help of people on the street, my mausi was taken to hospital," he said. The defence argued that police did not conduct a fingerprint examination on the knife and there were discrepancies in the timekeeping of the murder. "While the complainant has mentioned 2pm as the time of the incident, hospital records show that the body was brought for postmortem at 1.35pm," the defence counsel pointed out. This was, however, rejected by the court on the ground that the complainant was not present on the spot. Citing rulings of various high courts, additional district and sessions judge Sanjay Kumar Singh Pratham said it was not mandatory on the part of the prosecution to conduct a fingerprint examination when the murder weapon was recovered from the accused and an eyewitness was available to testify. The judge ruled that culpable homicide was proved beyond doubt by the prosecution, but the circumstances and the weapon used do not fall in the 'rarest of rare' category, warranting a life term, not capital punishment.

Two new Noida expressway underpasses: 15 firms throw hat in the ring
Noida: The Noida Authority has announced that 15 companies have submitted proposals for constructing two new underpasses on the Noida Expressway. The Authority will evaluate these proposals before finalising the construction agency. The underpasses will be built near Jhatta and Sultanpur villages and will be developed using diaphragm wall technology, necessitating traffic diversion during construction. While the Sultanpur underpass will be built at an estimated cost of Rs 80 crore, the Jhatta underpass is estimated to cost Rs 100 crore. The completion deadline for both projects, measuring 700 metres each, is 18 months. You Can Also Check: Noida AQI | Weather in Noida | Bank Holidays in Noida | Public Holidays in Noida Vijay Rawal, deputy general manager (civil) of the Noida Authority, said that the Sultanpur village underpass will be built near Jaypee Wish Town in Sector 128. "This underpass is intended to facilitate movement for residents of Wish Town, Sultanpur, and Sectors 128 and 129, providing easier access to Sectors 105 and 108," he said. Citing that nearly 1,00,000 people currently live in Jaypee Wish Town, residents highlighted the urgent need for an underpass at the place. "The area hosts multiple IT firms, schools, academic institutions, and hospitals. IC Markets Start Now Undo There are two small underpasses near our societies, but they are unable to handle the traffic pressure during peak hours," SK Maheshwari, a resident, said, adding that the underpass should be wide enough for two vehicles to pass at a time. The second underpass will be constructed near Jhatta village and will serve people who are travelling from Sectors 145 and 146 to Sectors 155 and 159, as well as Greater Noida. This area also hosts numerous IT firms and business parks, making the underpass a crucial addition. Officials said that the underpasses will be constructed using diaphragm wall technology, which will necessitate the diversion of traffic during the construction period. Currently, there are four small underpasses at Sector 97, Sultanpur, Advant, and Jhatta village, as well as five large underpasses at Hajipur, Sector 96, Panchsheel Inter College, Advant, and Sector 148 along the Noida Expressway. These new underpasses are expected to improve traffic flow and accessibility in the region, addressing the growing demands of the area's expanding population and business activities.
