KIMANIS: More than 1,000 people joined the Nuhu Dolorosa de Kamijan Trail Run 2.0, held to support the reconstruction of St Anne Chapel in Penampang Baru, recently. According to event organiser Jessel Kamijan, the run was inspired by Monsignor Fr. Nicholas Stephen, whose dedication to leading the charitable mission has been a true inspiration to the community.

'Therefore, we collaborated with the local community for this charity run to support St Anne Chapel,' he said. The event was officiated by Archbishop Datuk John Wong, who participated in the men's open 7km category. There were three race distance categories - 7km, 12km and 30km, with participation from women, children and senior citizens. One of the highlights was 76-year-old Loius Ening Gabriel, who joined the 7km run and proudly made it to the finish line. Among the successful runners were former Climbathon champion Guanus Salagan and his wife, Kona Liau. The winners of the 30km category were Sheron Sariman (first place), Milton Amat (second place) and Wilsen Singgin (third place). Meanwhile, the winners of the same category for women were Natasya Soon (first place), Adelinah Lintanga (second place) and Stephanie Gelawit (third place). The event was also attended by nuns, novices and priests. Volunteers from nearby churches also collaborated to facilitate the run, assisting by managing sales of Rahmah products through two trucks, stalls and a paid karaoke session. The raffle tickets and items sold were intended to generate additional funds for the church. The grand prize in the raffle was a motorcycle, with 20 other prizes consisting of various electrical appliances. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
